Dh didn’t leave me any water or drinks

I was really ill yesterday and especially last night, lots of vomiting etc (sorry tmi)
We live abroad and it’s extremely hot, we don’t drink the tap water here.
The bedroom was a real mess this morning-sick bucket full, duvet yucky, he quietly said my name to wake me up and that he was going to work.
I feel horrendous, so weak and there’s zero water and drinks. I’m trying to set up
a delivery service to see if they can deliver
Does anyone think this is a bit shitty to leave me with no drinks. Feel so dehydrated

Thank you, sat downstairs now so will make the next move to brush teeth, get dressed and quickly go to the petrol station. I need a shower etc but can’t so I hope I don’t run into anyone 😩

I drank three large water bottles last night

Sorry you're ill but seems you've left yourself with no water. If tap water is undrinkable, you need much bigger stocks in the house. He woke up early and went to work. If you didn't ask then, he wasn't going to go nosing around your sick bucket at empty bottles.

Just be aware that kidney stones and increased thirst can both be symptoms of a condition called hyperparathyroidism. Worth looking into by asking to have your calcium and vitamin d tested from the same blood draw.

Thank you, they’ve checked this already-normal calcium but low Vit D that I supplement

That is shocking! Is he normally so lacking in empathy? Or is he absolutely run off his feet?

He is busy at work, if he doesn’t check at lunchtime i’ll be really sad

I guess in normal circumstances you should both be equally responsible to making sure well ahead of time that you have enough drinking water in the house, and probably ought to have a stockpile in such hot weather - however, as you are so poorly then he ought to have stepped up and noticed it had run out, and got more in. So you're right, he shouldn't have left you without anything to drink (although it would have been sensible to have a stockpile of water in the middle of summer). I hope you feel better soon OP, it sounds horrible for you x

Mt563 · Yesterday 10:48

Not to blame op, but this is what happens when women carry all the mental load. Partner probably thinks there's a magic water fairy who arranges deliveries. Or at least an automated system. Or more backup.

We need to make men step up and share the load. It's ridiculous that they get away with this kind of thing. It's not just about looking after Op, which would be reason enough, it's about being part of running a household.

Don’t you have taps?

Go back and read the OP!

diddl · Yesterday 10:49

Even if he doesn't know that all the water has gone he knows that all of whatever else you drink had gone.

So he can pick up water whilst he's picking up other drinks.

Sounds as if water needs picking up every time someone shops to keep a decent supply in.

BashfulClam · Yesterday 10:50

Hopefully you can get a delivery soon. A sick bucket can be quite common, I had norovirus and my mum set me up with an old mop bucket as we had 1 bathroom between 6 adults a toddler (a beautiful toddler who gave me kisses of death).

What a totally horrible thing to say to someone who is obviously quite unwell. When you get that unwell with a stomach upset, it is virtually impossible to get out of bed to get to a toilet, hence the need for a bucket.
I can only presume that you have never encountered a serious bout of food poisoning or similar.

OP I do hope you can manage to organise some fluid to rehydrate yourself.

TightlyLacedCorset · Yesterday 10:51

Hope you feel like your old self again soon OP💐

And I always have a sick bucket and plenty of tissues and wet wipes by the bed during any noravirus or food poisoning episodes. And I only change the sheets when I know they'll be no more throwing up incidents. If you can get out you're doing very well!

Your DP maybe just had a thoughtless moment😬

Jimmyneutronsforehead · Yesterday 10:52

I'd be more worried that you are throwing off your electrolyte balance drinking so much water that it makes you throw up more instead of tiny sips between bouts.

I do think your husband should have done more, you sound really unwell and I don't think he should have left you alone if he'd taken a moment to assess the situation.

whirlyhead · Yesterday 10:52

I live in a country where you shouldn't drink the tap water, so I have an osmosis system which filters the water to make it drinkable. it sounds like you could do with something like that so you don't run out moving forwards. There are all sorts of freestanding filters you can buy as well which is a lot more sensible (and environmentally sound) than buying bottles of water all the time.

Right OP, get yourself up and about because a stranger, with absolutely no empathy, on the internet said so 😂

A stranger with plenty of experience of being ill. Getting up usually helps.

Victorius19 · Yesterday 10:55

If you don't feel well enough OP, just boil some water and let it cool in the fridge? Or do you have any ice cubes you've made?

Chenecinquantecinq · Yesterday 10:57

If you felt that bad you wold drink the tap water

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · Yesterday 10:57

Middletoleft · Yesterday 09:55

A sick bucket? I don't think I've ever used one since I was a child. Anyway, I digress. It would have been nice if he'd left you something even a bottle of water. Or are you saying there's absolutely nothing to drink at all??

However, you need to get yourself up, empty your bucket, clean your teeth and wash your face which will help you feel better. You're going to have to get up to receive a delivery anyway.

Lucky lucky you.
OP must be totally over reacting then if you haven't had to use a sick bucket since you were a child.

Thats quite a "pull yourself together" speech.

I've never had kidney stones, but if they are anything like gall stones, its very difficult to move when you are bent double in pain. And if there is something so serious going on, she probably hasn't always had a chance to always make it to the bathroom, and a sick bucket is better than the floor.

But she's not even complaining about but that the one person who was supposed to show a bit of care and consideration hasn't, and has actually left her ill in bed with no vital supplies.

Hope you are feeling a bit better now and on the road to recovery soon OP.

Drinking copious volumes of water won’t have done you any good….it’s probably what’s made you vomit!

She has kidney stones.

@WhatWouldMyMamaSay
Are you insinuating that the op is lying?

Not at all. I’m more stunned that their drinking water supply appears to be ordered on a day to day basis.

Bit of an odd take from you in response to my post…

BashfulClam · Yesterday 11:00

Your husband isn’t great. I was unwell one weekend and my husband went out and bought bottles of water (i drink tap water but he doesn’t so he bought some that he chilled in the freezer) and got bread and ice lollies.

Once I started to feel less sick he gave me ice lollies as they are sugary and refreshing. The bread was for toast so I couldn’t eat. He did the shopping, washing and cleaning too.

When he had a kidney stone I walked to the local shop (we rarely take the car as it’s close by) then nearly killed myself carrying 8 litres of water back as his hospital discharge said to drink 3 litres a day.

Your husband is thoughtless because if I had been ill he’d come and check if I needed anything before he went to work.

99bottlesofkombucha · Yesterday 11:00

I hope when you feel better you say that was disgusting behaviour for you to walk out without checking if I have what I need. if I’m ever sick like that again and you aren’t caring and supportive I will want a divorce, because a man who walks out when you need help and doesn’t even check his phone is totally worthless. I refuse to be there for you when you’re old.

and for a while buy just your own water. Store it carefully. And tell him to get his own, he’s healthy and you don’t get water for healthy people who don’t get water for sick people.

for now, text him and say I’m disgusted you walked out and left me with no water. You wouldn’t treat a sick dog like that.

LimestonePavement · Yesterday 11:01

Kidney stones are the worst pain I have ever had and made my (un-ideal) labour seem like a picnic. Sympathies, and hope you can get supplies. Phone your DH and have him arrange it?

Anarchy99 · Yesterday 11:02

So many people incapable of using their words. If you want your husband to do something then ask him.

Of course everyone will pile on and say you shouldn’t have to but it’s better than basically waiting for someone to make a mistake. One of the most infuriating phrases in the world is ‘You should have…’

If he bought his own and stashed it, people would call him abusive. At the very least it’s immature.

The OP has kidney stones. When I last had an attack I was incapable of using my words. I was on all fours in A and E screaming.
