Get a cat.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/07/2026 02:02

I should have added, you won't get spiders crawling about your face but you may get a paw jabbed in your eye at about 5:00 am.

Maray1967 · 07/07/2026 02:04

We had hardly any appear during last autumn- I sprayed the anti-spider peppermint spray around doorframes etc

Get a cat.

This can backfire!

I'm terrified of spiders so when I saw my new kitten eat one, I quickly started holding him up towards any future spiders to dispose of them. Then one night I woke up to a fat kitten landing on my face with all his claws out. I ended up in A&E getting treated for a scratch on my eyeball. He'd spotted a spider high on the wall above my pillow and tried his best to do his job.

He's still a spider eater now at 13 years old. Luckily his sister is a very accomplished fly hunter.

Aintgointogoa · 07/07/2026 02:40

@DoAWheelie that is full on spider cat...🕷️I have never known spiders to be so invasive ! I barely ever see them (spiders are very secretive I guess ?) let alone need them to be hunted by a feline. Although I am sure mine would oblige. They are good with cockroaches (or bad if you are the roach). But I do remember having a kitten lurking under my bed when I was making up a corner, and he launched himself at me really hurting my eye as I didn't close it fast enough. My optician wrote in my notes "contusion caused by kitten" 🤭
I LOVED THAT CAT for the next 12 years we had together. No spiders were harmed in the making of this episode.

Peppermint oil on bed linens

AlgaeDreams · 07/07/2026 03:02

Ensure the bed is positioned centrally in the room, a safe distance from all walls. Bed must be a frame of 4 thin legs and bedding should never touch the floor. Consider a mosquito type net that adheres to all rules mentioned.

Before getting into bed, perform a fingertip search until suitably terrified. Squeeze eyes shut. Pray regardless of any belief.

It's not foolproof, but you'll have a fighting chance.

SuperSange · 07/07/2026 03:44

It only wanted to rub its willy on your face. Poor spider. 😞

Winefride · 07/07/2026 04:26

I would douse myself with petrol and then cling film and sleep only after sunrise and before sunset. I'm scared to sleep now and I was already having problems 😩

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/07/2026 05:08

Sticky traps along skirting boards and under beds and screens on windows in addition to setting your bed in the middle of a fire ring.

shellyleppard · 07/07/2026 05:40

Mosquito net?

Parky04 · 07/07/2026 07:15

Just treat the spiders as breakfast. They are delicious!

Dearg · 07/07/2026 07:23

They’ll be trying to catch the Daddy Long Legs’ , who are intent on sewing your lips together. So be glad of the spider.

I don’t want a spider teabagging, tyvm

LavenderOregano · 07/07/2026 07:42

Free range gecko. Upside- gecko eats spiders. Downside- gecko crawling on you while you sleep.

RunningOnCaffeineAndChaos · 07/07/2026 07:48

Set your house on fire and move to Antarctic as there are apparently no spiders there, No idea if this is true mind you, but surely it’s worth a shot?

AnonSugar · 07/07/2026 07:49

Mosquito net.
one of my colleagues had massive spiders in her house and a mosquito net worked.

Dadalus · 07/07/2026 07:51

Balance a scorpion on your face before falling asleep.

What about a bunch of frogs? That could work. 🤗
The downside might be the ribbiting if OP is a light sleeper, though. 🤔

Are you a particularly light sleeper @TheOpalFox ?

inkgirl · 07/07/2026 07:54

Spiders hate peppermint, so get some peppermint oil mix some with water and spray around the room

Tontostitis · 07/07/2026 07:58

Go to the park or your garden if you're lucky cut some elderflower small twigs will do put them on your pillow and foot of bed. Spiders hate the smell. I get bitten by spiders and have had reactions this really helps

Scorpions are also arachnids, though.

Thats the beauty of it. It's like 2 magnets repelling eeach other.
Probably.

Or YOU end up as contested territory in the Arachnid Turf War?
