To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

I really do feel for you all. I'm in London, and while I'm absolutely not a fan of 32 degrees, I'm absolutely not a fan of soggy grey weather either, especially in July! Very depressing

Yes, but in my part we aren't forecast to go above 30 degrees.

I think perhaps I'm so desperate for the forecast to have something normal in it, like 22, (which still wouldn't help my flat cool down that much ) that I looked at that and thought it's not worth the travel. And much as I love Yorkshire it really isn't worth the travel in this situation - I was literally just thinking, where can I get to this weekend that's not going be hot!

Today was another roaster and I got f all sleep last night…. I was fortunate to be somewhere with air conditioning during the day today, but am back to my sweaty house now.

I feel like I can smell feet all the time. We’re all having cool showers twice a day, but the whole house just feels kind of damp…. Just for fun, my youngest also wet the bed last night, for the first time in YEARS. I can only assume it was the 5 litres of water he drunk before bedtime. I feared it spelt trouble but am also paranoid about dehydration…

I can’t even enjoy a cold beer as any amount of alcohol seems to raise my temperature yet further!

My self pity knows no end….

there was a thread last week where someone was buying a dual hose air con unit. My ancient single hose can’t cope on the heat so I’m curious to know what results they got but can’t find it, did anyone else see it or did I imagine it?

I think I am acclimatising but does anyone have hints for how to stop my makeup sliding off? Also any tips on hair going flat and sweaty! I’m trying to look glamorous in the heat 😂

I’ve just got in from a 35 min walk to choir and back, which wasn’t meeting. The sun was in my eyes most of the way back and sweat was trickling down my back, 3 changes of clothes today as sodden within 10 mins. I even missed my dip
in the sea this evening to go to choir, that keeps me sane as so refreshing.

I must be the only weirdo who loves it. I live for these hot summer days. There's so few of them compared to the rest of the year. When you're rejoicing in cold damp miserable weather i will be picturing myself outside on my lounger with sun bearing down on me.

I live in Yorkshire!! It's been 27 today, two weeks ago it was 38 most days and 22 on a night, so its not that much cooler!!
I work in a warehouse , its 27- 30 ° most of the year, i rock up 49,000 steps a day, with heavy lifting included, so I'm not bothered by the heat!!!! It will be cold and rainy before long.

Where is this microclimate where you are @Lisajane47 ? We had 32 degrees max during the last heatwave and very windy 21 degrees today (South Yorkshire).

We really need some rain. Everything is dying.

And no, that doesn't mean I revel in cold miserable weather.

I'd just like a normal, average British summer with a good mix of warm sunny days, a few hot days, and a good amount of rainy spells to stop all of our food withering in the fields.

The last few years, with the exception of 2024, have seen some atrocious droughts and heatwaves. If this is our new normal, it's a scary time if you like food.

My mum and dad live in Yorkshire and I was up week before last from the SW. Can confirm it was boiling. You've got to keep going up! My friend in Newcastle was having lovely overnights at 17 degrees.

I could actually go away on Friday. But it looks like the main days to cope are today and tomorrow.

I don't really go on holiday so I don't budget for this kind of stuff.

An accurate weather forecast would be so helpful! I really wish I had arranged to be away this week. I could've done it but it felt like too soon after just coming back.

I'm not good at going places can you tell? 😂 I used to do it for work but it's a bit different when somebody organises it for you. And I hate going away on my own.

Historically, we've simply never needed aircon really, houses have all been built to keep the heat in. It didn't make sense to fit aircon in houses to be used for a week every year. Its a bit like how in Australia they all have aircon but not central heating (radiators) like we have even though they do get spells of quite cold weather in winter - area dependent.

Its changing though, loads of people are getting portable units , but they're heavy and a bit of a faff with a hose that doesn't work well with standard windows. We have 2 , they're good, they cool down our bedrooms from about 30 to 22 ish so definitely work, but right atm I believe they're all sold out everywhere. The window units that you have
don"t seem to be avilable over here. We are looking at getting proper aircon fitted in at least our bedrooms in the next few months and I think more and more people will do the same.

I remember thinking 29/30 was HOT. 31 would have been exceptional. It is mad.

The average daily high temperature for July is around 22°, a bit more if you're in the south and a bit less if you're in the north.

29° is significantly above the historical average.

When I say nice sunny summer days, I'm thinking of temps no higher than 25°.

I'm def over it, ready for autumn now!
I'm in kent and it's just too hot and stifling to do anything. Usually I love to go for lots of walks but I just don't have the energy and I'm pretty much trapped in the house for the hottest parts of the day.

I haven't bothered with make up for weeks and am currently wearing crop top comfy bras that lift my boobs as much as my mood.
Oh, and I can't stop eating coz I'm not one of those who goes off food in the heat sadly!
Just fed up with being coated in a layer of sweat the second I exert any energy at all.😡

It is better than rain. It’s the one time of the year that I’m warm without wearing a jumper. I understand I’m unusual. DH is dying in a puddle of sweat 10 minutes after the shower.
It gets people out more enjoying evening walks.

Same here. It hasn't got above 19 all day and I've got a jumper on. Can't wait to go on holiday.
