To be utterly pissed off and fed up with this weather….

I know there’s already been loads of threads about it, so apologies for being so original but OH MY GOD!

I’m not usually a particularly whiny person and I don’t ever remember being particularly troubled by hot ( or cold!) weather before but honestly, I feel like I’m going lose my mind!

Maybe it’s combined with hot flushes or something because no one else I know seems to be struggling that much.

I was fine at first; just thought it would only be a couple of days we’d have to suck it up. We
got the fans out, ate a criminal amount of ice lollies and did as little as possible. But now it feels like it’s been a couple of weeks of non stop over 28 degree heat every day where I live. It’s also unbearably humid. Trying to clean the house is grim. I feel like I’m swimming through treacle and my brain is mush. I can’t concentrate on work, I can’t sleep at night. I am constantly uncomfortable and the house has now heated up to such an extent that no room is even close to cool.

I realise this probably sounds ridiculous but I can’t really go out in this heat. I mean I can go to work (though my office has no air con and is also grim) and I can manage the school run and the supermarket etc, but I can’t go for a walk, or run about at the park with the kids. I definitely wouldn’t want go out in town or mooch about the shops, or eat out etc. I don’t want go in the garden because it’s so hot. The swimming pool is lovely but the changing rooms are beyond the pale. There’s no way I could cope with a day out at the zoo or a theme park with the kids.

I’ve never been so hot or so uncomfortable in my life! I have lots of loose, comfortable clothes, summer shoes etc but I still feel like I want to rip my skin off!

Is it just me? Weather forecast seems to be saying 10 more days of heat wave and I could cry!

All people do in this country is moan. If people don't like it, why don't they just up sticks and go and live in Scotland?

I don’t know if Scotland is actually big enough to accommodate all of us moaners. Maybe we should all just do a massive swap?

Same. There are no "window units" here in the same sense, so you need something that comes in a big box with a funnel/pipe thing that goes out the window. It's bad enough storing 2 large fans for 9 months of the year so I've just never taken the plunge.

Also - they are out of stock. Everywhere. And will be for months.

I know - and I'm a bit confused by how they even work. I mean, for the pipe to go out the window, the window has to be open - so isn't that just letting the heat back in? As well as stopping you closing the blinds properly...?

nam3c4ang3 · Today 07:11

i grew up in a country that was 36deg on a normal day and super humid so this weather is a lot cooler for me! 😂

We havent even blocked off the window and ours still works getting the room down from 30 to 22 and that is much more comfortable!

It’s 30-31 all week here and in to next week which is fine. Of course a few years ago a week of 30+ weather would have been completely exceptional. Boiling frogs and all that.

Glasgow here and it’s been pissing down for the last 2 weeks solidly. I have the lights on and I did put the heating on last week. I’m so over it.

I don't know if you guys are deliberately boasting or looking for sympathy.

Sorry I but have none (of course I do, lights in is crap...but I also don't in comparison) I'm majorly jealous!
My entire day is currently condensed into this little window of cool time. By 11:30 it will be over.

So take me to your place! I'm currently building a climate map of all the locations posters are quoting from, that are wet and boggy for hols next year.

I have a good pair of hunters and a coat with a fur lined hood. At least I could go out without panicking about suffering heat stroke.

ChipDaleRescueRangers · Today 07:49

I could have written the OP. I am hating it! However we are having aircon installed in 2 weeks time and this is giving me hope that I wont have to suffer for much longer.

I'm up for it, I've just got home from London with a lovely tan and I've had to put the heating on.
I hate cold.

Agree. I was relieved to see 32 instead of 36. Small wins!

PinkNailPolish2026 · Today 10:40

I’ve dug my shorts out the wardrobe it’s to be warm and sunny for 4 days at least from Friday where I am in Scotland. AT LAST we’re going to get our week of sunshine 🤣

It's crazy that we now think of 32 as pleasantly warm. Everyone has been remarking about how it's now 'proper summer weather' compared to a couple weeks ago. I think even 10 years ago 31-32 would have been considered exceptionally hot. Now we just think of it as the norm.

WinterAconite · Today 10:47

We were in a caravan in the last one which was hideous during the day. Thought I was going to perish!

Yeah, most people just seem to tuck their curtains round it and be done with it. You can also buy window kits on Amazon which are like meshy rectangles with a hole in for the pipe.

JMSA · Today 12:27

Absolutely pissing down here in Edinburgh. Again! I’ve just spent a small fortune on getting the garden done and haven’t been able to sit in it once since school finished (teacher).

I think of 32 as far too hot.

Well, it feels lovely compared to the week of 38-39 that we had a couple weeks ago. That's what I mean by it feeling normalised now.

I'm outside in 28 at the moment, with a breeze, and it's lovely. I absolutely would have whinged about being boiled back in May!

InveterateWineDrinker · Today 13:16

This is a summer weather pattern for which the acronym BOHICA could have been invented!

Same. We are sitting under shade on the patio and it’s blissful.

RampantIvy · Today 15:48

Currently 21 degrees and very windy in my part of Yorkshire.

glitterpaperchain · Today 17:04

I've always hated hot weather, I used to feel glad I lived in England so I didn't have to experience it, not so anymore!

I'm on medication which makes me more susceptible to the heat and I'm constantly sweaty. Plus I have a 3yo and an 11mo so I'm always worrying about their sun exposure, if they're too hot, if they've drunk enough water.

My parents live on the beach and said we should join them for a sea swim to cool off as they've been doing it every day...I think they have unrealistic expectations about how relaxing and cooling that would be with two under 4 😂

Jackiepumpkinhead · Today 17:07

I feel you, OP. I do like warm weather but it’s just a bit too much isn’t it. 25c is my maximum temp in this country. I have a dog, so I’m always worried about them and have to get up super early to walk them. Not a problem but does make the hot days ever longer. Feel like I’m wishing the summer away.

I would happily spend the weekend in Yorkshire

But it looks like the heat is coming up your way, doesn't it?

About five minutes ago, I did honestly think about trying to go somewhere. But the general faff of trains and everything in this heat seems like too much.

I don't feel I've been very productive with work today. I feel crashingly bored. I think it's because I know I can't go out for a walk till about 8:30. It will still be humid. And we've got a horrible tropical night coming.

It's bizarre. I have a feeling this week is going to go slower than a week in winter.

I’m stuck in the East Midlands and resentful of every second in this heat. Even as a child growing up in Wales my worst nightmare was living in a hot country- I never thought I would actually end up living in one

Lincolnshire here, I hear you. I hate this weather so much, the house is roasting and doing anything is exhausting. For me the light nights and mornings make it worse, it feels so oppressive. Makes me sad that this is our future going forward!

moggiek · Today 17:30

West of Scotland. It has rained every day since schools broke up on June 25th. Every. Single. Day. Bloody miserable weather.
