To think England should get a bank holiday this coming Monday?

Since England's World Cup game with Mexico is at 1am Monday morning, it seems only fair that we should get a bank holiday Monday, since Scotland got one for their World Cup game that was in the early hours of a Sunday morning. It would be a nice thing for Keir Starmer to do as one of his final acts as PM.

Every Monday please

Olive123456 · Yesterday 18:27

It seems only fair apart from the vast number of people who would still be expected to turn up for work.

Then you won’t be doing much. Because just about any event can spark a morons violence.

So you don’t believe that DA rises greatly during events like this? That’s up to you of course but I’m an outlier because I think the safety of women should be prioritised over some crappy sport.

Im sure many women are looking forward to it ending.

Far too late now.

Cape Verde residents should get a BH for doing so bloody well.

HJC88 · Yesterday 18:41

Don't be ridiculous ...

  1. it's not the final
  2. do you know how much bank holidays cost the economy? Between £1.3 and £2.4bn

It's only a game, not life or death.

Everyone I know will be watching the match. I find it hard to believe that anyone would purposely miss what could be history in the making.

And I know few who will be watching. I certainly won’t be. Don’t care! And such a ridiculous suggestion for a BH - just to watch a football match 🤯

The butchers in the town where I live are opening 2.5 hours later on Monday to let their staff get some sleep.

I wonder how many employers will count sickies made on Monday as 'unauthorised'? Ie don't get paid. Unless employees have sick notes covering Monday for other conditions.

SetTheWorldOnFire84 · Yesterday 18:45

Absolutely NOT!

The miserable cows in this thread. "I don't like it so nobody else should get to enjoy it". Bore off and stop being so bloody selfish! Some people like having time to enjoy thesmelves and get together, just because you have nothing else going on in your life but work doesn't mean you should take it out on others.

Come on Mexico.

Bore off.

Spare a thought for those like me who live near a pub. I'm unsure if the pub which the far end of the pub garden is 50m from my home is opening til 5am on Monday. Checked. It's quiet, unless England play.

Got some earplugs

There will be singing and dancing in the streets if England win and general jubilation, I don't see how it will be possible to avoid knowing the result.

I think England should get a bank holiday on Monday. We got it in Scotland, although I was working anyway.

Imjustagirl222 · Yesterday 19:48

the vast majority of Scotland didn’t have a bank holiday nor was it added to anyone’s entitlement for the year
it was showboating to get elected. I think the only people who got it off were some government workers

I’m sorry a pub was built next to your home l.

You can tell how they did from the noises. I got home just before 5 on Wednesday and could tell that the first goal in the DR Congo match was against England.

It’s quiet rest of the time. Probably about 4 times in 17 years I struggled to get to sleep as my previous job I had early starts

I’m sorry that very rarely the house you bought next to a pub is noisy?

plomh · Yesterday 20:50

As I stated 4 times in 17 years living in a flat where I struggled to sleep is not much. I have ear plugs this time

The fact that your comments are getting deleted shows that you seem to like insulting people for no real reason.

I wouldn't lose sleep over how much a bank holiday costs the UK economy if I was you.

Wait until you find out how much money the UK government literally pisses away.
