Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question! AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ? I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !). so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

I wonder if, the 'younger' and trendier that midlife women dress, the more it subconsciously pushes younger women to extremes - either revealing body parts (bum cheeks, midriff) that most older women wouldn't dare to: or conversely, covering everything up in swathes of material, vintage styles or odd shapes, that mature women would avoid for fear of looking frumpy or just plain weird.

Just a theory, I hasten to add! But I read somewhere that the key ways young people differentiate themselves from their elders is through their language, clothes and music. When your trendy DPs are going to the same festivals and listening to the same stuff as you do, and still pretty fixated on looking fashionable, where else do you go?

The really sad (and frightening) thing is when the younger generation just stops competing. As we're beginning to see.

Quite honestly when I was a young woman and attractive enough to wear this stuff I did not because it was bad enough dealing with mens disgusting comments and lechery on a day to day basis wearing normal clothes and I wouldn't have felt safe or comfortable showing my bottom biscuits.
I find it difficult to believe girls want that kind of attention from the creeps out there.

I didn’t wear very long because having insisted to my mother that I could wear what I liked and flounced dramatically off to buy them, I then had to suffer the sheer discomfort of a pair of wedgy shorts right up my arse for the whole summer. You’re constantly pulling them down whether you’re standing, sitting or walking (sitting it worse).

Seeing them now my silent reaction is “oh dear”.

Possible, but many younger women will be too self absorbed to think like that IMO, they are not competing with older women in their mind, it is all about just maximising the attention they get in the moment. Strangely the trend seems to have died down a bit even although the weather has been seriously warm, is there a fashion shift I am missing?

I think this is an interesting point actually, not sure if it is what is happening but it does make sense.

Young women are overwhelmingly clear though that they wear these clothes because they like them, and the clothing choices have nothing to do with men.

If women wanted to see side testicle, there is no question that men would show side testicle.

... However, gay men do seem to appreciate titillating clothing, which is why you see men wearing titillating clothing at gay pride parades and in gay saunas.
