AIBU to think neighbours should not be naked in their garden?

For context: Our house is on a new build estate and the houses are pretty close together. It’s fairly easy to see into neighbours gardens because the trees etc are not well established yet.

AIBU to say my neighbours shouldn’t be naked in their garden. They are often out in the garden totally naked taking photos of themselves. They have parties quite often and it’s not uncommon for them and friends to be out in the garden naked / using the hot tub etc.

Am I being a killjoy ? Seems excessive to me.

Have you told them that you can see clearly that there naked and your son who is only 11 should not be exposed to tits and cocks at his age. Weird neighbours to have.

NormasArse · 25/06/2026 20:46

Hang on- if someone stood at their window naked, they’d get into trouble for exposing themselves- how is this different??

BitOutOfPractice · 25/06/2026 20:47

So, to the people telling you not to look, where do you draw the line? Would the front garden be ok?

Well you wouldn’t be able to tear me away from the window if my neighbour was Henry Cavil!

You seem to look out of your upstairs window a lot! How big is the cock to see it from upstairs ?

Wtf, she's allowed to look out of her windows. Stop being so childish.

It’s MNs, posters just like to be contrary!

Have you considered minding your own business, OP?

No I’ve not thought of that.

I thought I was going mad there for a minute. Tbh whilst I’m not totally outraged or particularly offended I’m not sure that it’s Ok either.

When my son saw them they were having a party and playing games with balloons where you have to pass it onto the next person. Most of them were naked doing this. My son was laughing his head off and told all and sundry.

Some of the other neighbours are getting their knickers in a twist about it all.

Good to know some of your neighbours are wearing knickers!

Tableforjoan · 25/06/2026 20:51

I’m pretty sure nudity is about intent when it comes to becoming a criminal offence.

So a neighbour stood in his window naked staring out full dong not appropriate likely to cause alarm to people walking by.

Someone sunbathing in their garden is just enjoying their own back garden no intent to startle.

A naked party with naturists well being nude is not illegal if none of you have actually approached the couple then I’m not sure it will fall on the illegal intent side as they are just having a naked naturist party in their garden.

Is the issue they are naked or the having a party naked? Would you object to them gardening naked? Or sunbathing?

I genuinely can't tell if it's supposed to be tongue in cheek or not

Theraininspainishere · 25/06/2026 20:52

I’m naked in my garden every time it’s warm enough. New build estate.

If people want to stand at their bedroom windows peering out at me, let them crack on, I say!

The sight of a human body is not damaging to children.
An aroused human body behaving in a sexualised manner, entirely different……

But the British cannot see the difference between these two states, on the whole……

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 25/06/2026 20:52

What is OP supposed to do walk around her house shielding her gaze so she doesn’t actually look out of her own windows. Plus children-her DS already thinks it’s hilarious and will be telling everyone. I’d just pop a note saying please wear clothing when you are outside. A number of neighbours are being made to feel uncomfortable and it is inappropriate with children around. At the end of the day, it’s flashing and illegal.

Another thread where posters on MN seem to inhabit a different world to the real one. It beggars belief that so many seem to think OP should be blasé about her neighbours cavirting about with theur friends naked in the garden.

Personally OP I"d be reporting them to the police and the police can decide whether they are actually committing a criminal offence. Or at least have words with them about consideration for others

Indeed. And they seem to be so naive so as not to know that people do this on purpose knowing that others, particularly children, can see them and get a kick out of it.

Beachbeachbaby · 25/06/2026 20:53

Wouldn’t bother me. We see semi naked people all the time at the beach. It’s only one step up. My kids see us naked, we want to normalise human bodies

pizzaHeart · 25/06/2026 20:53

out in the garden naked?
are you sure he is not encouraging you to do the fence up?

Flashing and illegal would be in a public place like walking down the high street

Theraininspainishere · 25/06/2026 20:54

@MrsElijahMikaelson1 its not flashing to behave non-sexually in your own garden.

sweatymessi · 25/06/2026 20:54

@OhmygawdflippingheckI don’t think so!

Tableforjoan · 25/06/2026 20:54

I sunbathe naked. Not to be watched. It’s my garden. I am considerate in the sense I only do it during school hours however so no children should see me.

If my neighbour took offence I’d tell them to stop looking it’s a naked body not a porno.

The MN cool girls arrived early to the thread.

Do you need to be nude to normalise bodies?

HurryUpHilda · 25/06/2026 20:55

Will this affect the value of my house when I come to sell it? If it’s only a semi you should be OK.

Theraininspainishere · 25/06/2026 20:55

@Beachbeachbaby its not illegal to walk down the street naked.
It’s illegal to behave sexually in public and to intentionally cause alarm.
But simple nudity is not illegal anywhere in the UK
