To ask for a hoover that actually WORKS and will not SHOWER the floor with FILTH !

Having a quick hoover before work. Because we have the completely WORTHLESS shark, which spits and sprays the detritus out the back, all my revolting bits of dirt and grit went all over the floor in a fine mist of grot. I then trod on a shard of glass (c/o the Hoover) which I had to pull out my foot with tweezers. I wanted to be sick. Blood all over the carpet. NOT TOLERATING THIS WORTHLESS CORDLESS MACHINE A DAY LONGER !!!

Our cordless shark was doing this and it turned out the main vertical tube was totally blocked (mostly with Xmas tree needles). I’d been cleaning and cleaning the filters but it was the main vertical tube that was blocked. Cleared it out and all worked fine from then on.

We do also have a Henry cos the cleaner prefers that. But we prefer the cordless as it’s far easier for a quick cleanup. Combo of both is good.

lordbaddingham · 24/06/2026 07:27

Our Shark did this, it was a piece of crap. Got a corded Miele which sucks like a demon, amazingly good.

I hate cordless vacuums
for this reason cove never felt they have enough suction and the get clogged up so easily.

I have the corded shark lift away with anti hair wrap bar and it brilliant. It almost lost the damn rug up when I’m hoovering, I have to adjust the suction
its a hardy wee thing and I rarely clean the filters out, maybe twice a year when I remember.

I have the same one as you. Earlier this month they were on offer at Argos. My Vax didn’t switch on a few weeks ago. Changed fuse, WD40’d the switch (as that made my parents’ vacuum to work) and didn’t want to work.

Cordless vacuums are fine if you spend £500 on one

You need Henry in your life.

2nd this. Ive had two cordless Dysons that both ended up being useless. Moved over to a corded hetty and shes the best 👌

Jopo12 · 24/06/2026 18:57

If you vac hard flooring with he carpet roller engaged then the bits will spit out the back. Have you checked if there's a hard floor setting and made sure it's engaged before using it?

I have a shark and it's brilliant.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/06/2026 19:01

I've only ever had the 'spitting out' issue when I've had a blockage in my pipe, too far up to see. I got really good at disassembling my Dyson, they could have used me on the factory floor to put the things together.

Now I have a Dyson Pet, but tiled flooring downstairs means that he doesn't come out very often.

fetchacloth · 24/06/2026 19:10

I have used Shark products for many years with few issues. My money is on clogged filters.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/06/2026 19:13

I have a Shark corded - has a 10metre cord, anti-hair wrap.
Love it .
My old Shark spat things out but IIRC it was cordless .

I do the filters quite regularly.
I've got a George 3-in-1 but he tries to kill me by teetering on the stairs hoping to fall. I have to get someone to hold him . And they never shed their smirky little faces .

Those with old vacuums , the laws changed in 2014 so power levels were reduced . That's why you want to hang onto these workhorses

Featherhorn · 24/06/2026 19:18

My shark does this when it's sucked up something it shouldn't. Highly frustrating - take the thing apart and see if you can unblock it.

I won't buy another one. I miss my Miele C3.

whatacroc · 24/06/2026 19:29

my aunt has a corded shark and that is shite too. Don't think any hoover is as good anymore since they made them less powerful under the new EU regulations a few years ago. thats why I went out and bought a corded Dyson while they still had the older more efficient models in stock at the time.
from what I remember people were going out and buying hoovers to get a decent strong one before they started selling the shite ones.

RocSor · 24/06/2026 19:33

One word...HENRY! Every hotel corridor I have stayed in has them on every floor. Says it all. Buy 2. One for upstairs one for down. I've had 3 in 45 years. One of them got used by ex to clear builders rubble so I ditched it on principle but it was still going!

RanchRat · 24/06/2026 19:46

I have got a cunt of a Dyson, a poor snivelling twat of a machine.

SeasideDaisy · 24/06/2026 19:50

I’m a cleaner and I agree that you can’t beat a Henry.

Sevenwondersofthewoo · 24/06/2026 19:50

Old Henry’s are great the new ones not so much now a days

I’ve a cordless shark that is only used on the stairs but it’s the bloody button right in the middle that pisses me off only cos I keep switching it bloody off

Ive a corded shark though works wonders but I do miss my old pre 2014 Dyson but the ex took it in the split the wanker.

my aunt has a carpet sweeper she will not part with think it’s a 1965 model or might be 1970. I love the thing too cos it’s a simple little beast

SunSparkle · 24/06/2026 19:51

Get a bagged Miele. Best vacuum by far.

meanttobeonhols · 24/06/2026 19:54

Miele all day long. We have a M1, hated my Shark.

Toffeefudgecaramel · 24/06/2026 19:54

I've tried lots of different vacuum cleaners, because NONE of them work. I've tried a couple of the expensive ones (including Dyson - both Dysons I got had chunks of plastic literally falling off them from very early on). I think that the technology isn't there yet.

Sausagedognamedmash · 24/06/2026 20:12

My shark anti hair wrap always clogs in the flexi pipe from the head to the rigid pipe. Always clogged with hair. We are a hair shedding family, hence the anti hair wrap purchase as we were cutting hair off the old vacuums rollers every day. However it doesn't do what it says and as soon as that bit gets clogged it's throwing bits everywhere.

Bristolandlazy · 24/06/2026 20:17

I don't think any cordless hoover can match up to a corded hoover. Miele are very good.

ScartlettSole · 24/06/2026 21:09

HildegardVonBingham · 23/06/2026 08:37

Thank you all. @Twasasurprise I’ve found it to be quite useless since we got it! It lacks the OOMPH and power of the plug-in Dyson! Do also hate cleaning it as have to use chopsticks to really get all the gristly bits out

Cordless never has the power of corded so the two aren't really comparable. What on earth are you hoovering that's so grisly?!

I have two sharks and find them far better than Dyson. Mine are corded though. They have really good customer service though, if you think it's a dud you should contact them.

inappropriateraspberry · 24/06/2026 22:20

Sahara123 · 23/06/2026 10:41

Personally I hate Henrys, having to drag it round, and I don’t like pushing the wand thing around. I shall stick with my cordless Shark ( ducks quickly 😆)

Snap! I find Henries so cumbersome and awkward, constantly getting stuck on furniture and doors. Find the suction awful and hard work with the stick.
We recently got a shark and love it!

Arran2024 · 24/06/2026 22:23

You have to go with bags if you don't want a mess. I feel your pain. I swapped my bag-based miele for a bagless one last year and it's a nightmare trying to empty it without getting black dust on the floor.

RunningNananananananananana · 24/06/2026 22:24

My Shark only spews if there's a blockage.
I've got corded/cordless definitely prefer the corded; the cordless is good for a quick nip round but if I could only keep one it would be the corded one.

MiddleAgedDread · 24/06/2026 22:27

I have a shark and agree they’re lacking in power, even in wooden floors I don’t rate it! But it only spits dirt back out when it’s either blocked or there’s fluff clogging the rollers.
