To ask for a hoover that actually WORKS and will not SHOWER the floor with FILTH !

Having a quick hoover before work. Because we have the completely WORTHLESS shark, which spits and sprays the detritus out the back, all my revolting bits of dirt and grit went all over the floor in a fine mist of grot. I then trod on a shard of glass (c/o the Hoover) which I had to pull out my foot with tweezers. I wanted to be sick. Blood all over the carpet. NOT TOLERATING THIS WORTHLESS CORDLESS MACHINE A DAY LONGER !!!

I’ve had a number of cordless Dyson’s I think they suck too. Henry is the best hoover we’ve ever had. Once you account for the exploding filters (that’s happens on the Dyson too) and having to remember to charge/it not holding enough charge to do a full house - it rendered the whole thing pointless for us. Faster to unwind and rewind Henry - who never ever breaks down.

WhatWouldYouDo223 · 23/06/2026 10:45

Cordless anything is rubbish. My cordless shark became an embarrassment when I got the big corded version. It’s heavier but it practically sucks up the the carpet from the floor 🤣

MamaBobo · 23/06/2026 10:45

Sebo all the way! Very old fashioned but absolutely brilliant. Ours is 21 years old and still fantastic.

Bumbelinaaa · 23/06/2026 10:47

Are you fully unclipping the rollers to clean it? I’m surprised you’d need a chopstick. I also found mine was spitting stuff out when the tube was blocked. Try putting a long stick (a mop handle?) through the length of it to get rid of any stray socks etc.

Mine isn’t cordless (I wouldn’t trust myself to remember to charge it!), but it’s about five years old and I still love it. In fairness, the tube has split and the roller casing has broken twice. However, I’ve just gone onto the online chat each time and they’ve sent me a brand new floorhead/roller/tube with nextday delivery, completely free!

I also have a Henry, and although very reliable, they are also back breaking on carpet!

I love my Shark. Sounds like there's a blockage in yours.

cant beat the good old Henry.

I agree that the Henry is fab.

I've had a Dyson cordless, which was good but died as soon as the warranty expired. Also had a Miele which was good, but the replacement bags cost a fortune.

I switched to a Henry on recommendation from a friend and the cleaning supervisor at work, and I love it. It may not be cordless, but it's a fab vacuum and not too pricey. Plus the replacement bags aren't too expensive.

Love my Sebo. First one lasted 15 years and my current one is around 8 years old.

Are you sure you’re maintaining it OP? My cordless shark is great, and probably 6 or 7 years old and still going well in a busy dog/kid house. If its spitting something out it sounds like its blocked somewhere.
I wash the filters regularly and make sure they are totally dry.
Can’t see where you need a chopstick - the roller bits all unclip to take apart to unblock. We also have the corded shark upstairs - that takes apart in a similar fashion (but has an irritatingly short cable!)

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 23/06/2026 10:56

We had this issue with our shark and our Dyson, in the end we ended up just using a Titan shopvac with a universal carpet attachment. Can't remember having such crispy carpet lines since the old plug in vacuums of the 90s.

hididdlyho · 23/06/2026 10:58

My cordless shark couldn't cope with dog hair, so I bought this corded/bagged vacuum at the start of the year. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Akitas-C11-Spinning-Filtration-Retractable/dp/B0GDXSPS8G?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&th=1

Fantastic suction, less heavy than a Henry and I don't need to spend ages unclogging it every time I use it. The wheels aren't great, but the cord and nozzle are so long I only need to move it a couple of times to vac a room. My only gripe is it's a bit awkward to do the stairs with, so I do still use the cordless Shark for those.

I have a Hetty (Henry but cute) and she would need to be prised from my cold dead hands before I replaced her 😂

Itiswhysofew · 23/06/2026 11:02

I was loathe to get a cordless, but I got a Shark just to see - bloody useless article. There's too much care involved with it, having to remove debris from the wheely thing, dig out dirt from filters, etc. I've gone back to my Henry.

GustavaKlimt · 23/06/2026 11:05

I had a cordless shark that did exactly that. Cleaned everything. No difference. Lobbed it in the bin. I bought a Miele and the difference is night and day. Love it. Ive had it 3 years now and it's as good as new.

Chaoticmonday · 23/06/2026 11:10

I had a cordless shark and it very quickly became useless in the way you describe. I switched to a corded shark with liftaway and it's excellent. Of course, if I'd checked the comparative power of corded and cordless models in the first place I could have saved myself some trouble!

I've also got a Henry but just bring that out for major jobs.

Happyjoe · 23/06/2026 11:10

Ha, that was an EU thing wasn't it? Less powerful hoovers to save the planet.

I have a very old henry, about 30 years old, works fine and I bought a miele bagged hoover, hard to push, can only pull but it's superb.

Henry all the way. I’ve tried a few others and always go back. Cordless are shit.

I’ve got one of those robot hoovers which I do like and it’s good for a quick runaround and a Henry but I prefer the Henry and the cat prefers it too. The robot one freaks her out if she’s in the same room. She still hates the Henry but not as much!

The Henry with nozzle attachments gets all dust and cat hair from everywhere (right by stair edges, edges of walls, kitchen tile edges) when you want a thorough clean with a hoover. My mum’s cleaner recommended it to her. Downstairs is parquet flooring, carpet and red kitchen flooring tiles (ceramic) and the Henry with nozzle is excellent then too.

Years ago (early 90s) my mum had a brilliant German upright hoover, can’t think of name. Not your usual German brands. It really cleaned thoroughly and well as I used it once or twice when I still lived there. It only went from my mum’s house as a Dyson and Henry’s were then bought one by one and it was a hassle/heavy carrying it up stairs and easier for her cleaner to use.

redstick · 23/06/2026 11:39

We hate our shark too - it’s useless, and no it is not user error or lack of maintenance. And hahaha to the advertised anti hair wrap feature.

Much preferred our previous cordless vacuum cleaner.

flagpolesitta · 23/06/2026 11:41

Miele all the way! I have a similar one. Yes, it’s not very streamline and you have to drag it about… but it’s powerful with amazing suction. I’ve had 2 sharks in the past (one corded, one cordless) and they’ve both been crap by comparison.

Crimblecrumblerules · 23/06/2026 11:45

I've had dysan, shark both cordless and corded, but nothing has come close to my current Henry. The power is outstanding. Granted a bit cumbersome to get upstairs, so I'll soon be having an upstairs henry and downstairs one.

AmyDudley · 23/06/2026 11:48

Whilst I acknowledge all the maintenance advice, I think it's important to recognise that some household appliances are just spiteful bastards.

SapphOhNo · 23/06/2026 11:50

You have to clean your vacuum cleaner and maintain it. The lacking "oomf" aside, if its spitting out dirt... it's on you.

Yep ! Have tried various others and Henry is my fave

Winter2020 · 23/06/2026 11:55

Love my shark. Had it years with no problems but it's a plug in version.

bronnibro · 23/06/2026 12:42

For a cheaper version for anyone looking, I have not sure the exact model but it's karcher yellow Henry style hoover around 60, it's an in and out, wet and dry, very powerful, much better than my Dyson, and it has a rubber or silicone tipping on the brush which is a lot softer than Dyson which chipped bits of laminate off! Never chipped any flooring/paintwork etc, so pleased with It did the price and would definitely buy another if needed

Youspurnme · 23/06/2026 14:34

Yup you need a Henry. I’ve had Dysons, Sharks, Samsungs, Henry beats them all hands down
