What are your neighbours doing to annoy you this summer?

For the past two evenings, just as it's finally cooled down enough to open the windows, one neighbour has fired up a BBQ and another has lit a log fire.

I know people are entitled to enjoy their gardens, but the timing feels almost impressively irritating.

Anyway, rather than sitting here seething internally while my house slowly fills with eau de smoked sausage and bonfire, please tell me about your neighbours' most gloriously twattish habits.

The more petty and irrationally annoying, the better.

Help me feel less alone 😂

Owe us thousands in unpaid rent. Harass and intimidate the DC. Spread malicious lies and hate about said DC. Now starting to pop over the wall and wave as though nothing ever happened anytime youngest is out trying to play. Oh and fall out amongst themselves at 11.30 last night. We live rurally too but there’s no escaping batshit.

NomadNo · 22/06/2026 15:51

They’re out of the house 7am-6pm every week day leaving their poor dogs to bark ALL DAMN DAY. Then during evenings and weekends they fix cars in the back garden, revving engines etc, and such is the layout of the surrounding houses the noise bounces off all of them, giving us revving engines in surround sound 🫠

Laughorbloodycry · 22/06/2026 15:57

Just existing is enough sometimes....

Sending love to my fellow social housing tenants. I feel we really do luck out when it comes to a natural consideration for others, a huge sense of entitlement etc, etc.....

It could be much worse as no stereos and weed here......so far 😬

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 22/06/2026 16:20

Tbf we’re pretty lucky atm but next doors son who’s about 20 was doing so yard work yesterday, hurt himself and yelled a bunch of expletives while my kids were in the garden. They started laughing and I said “you can laugh but if I hear those words come out of your mouth it’s BIG trouble!” And the poor guy came over later all scruffed up from his earlier run in and was very very apologetic. I told him it’s fine they’ve heard it before and they know they’re not to say it ect. I think his mum might have given him a bit of a telling off..

Lkt32 · 22/06/2026 16:43

We live in a terrace and gardens are packed in tight together, so you have to accept general noise and kids playing... fine

But playing really loud music really grates on me.
Bonfires
Smoking weed
And one family communicates mostly by shouting.

WellThatIsABitMad · 22/06/2026 16:52

On every warm day for the past 25 years, the bastard next door plays classic hits radio (defected from Radio 2 after Ken Bruce left) on his stupid radio which is sited in the middle of the lawn.

PocketSand · 22/06/2026 16:56

My new neighbour has been merrily cutting grass and hedges (the rest of us don’t cut during nesting season), weeding and planting containers. But sits on her patio all day every day playing music and talking and laughing loudly.

Barking dogs that are immediately brought in and power tools and ride on lawn mowers are allowed - we can even tolerate screaming children. But neighbours enjoying their garden is a step too far unless they are silent. God forbid they have a barbecue or family to visit.

I live in a road with social housing and privately owned properties. Expectations are different.

ByLemonLeader · 22/06/2026 16:57

Mine exist next to me with tidy gardens while mine is messy and in my imagination they judge me and think they are better than me.
The absolute bastards.

Bigears6789 · 22/06/2026 17:05

Mine are very quiet - both sets have grown up DC. Me however, 2 DC launching in 20ft pool, annoying yappy Jack Russell and a mouthy hen who never shuts up 😂🫢

Jackiepumpkinhead · 22/06/2026 17:07

Not just in the summer, but more irritating at this time! One smoking weed, told me he no longer smokes it and he’s trying to quit cigarettes 🙄 do weed smokers no longer smell it?! Another annoying twit with his chain saw, sawing wood for, I assume, his log burner. He does this at the front of his house, opposite mine. Think I'm relatively fortunate compared to some poor people on here.

Asuperblyfeauturedroomandexcellentboiledpotatoes · 22/06/2026 17:07

My child plays with their child very nicely, sometimes for the whole day.
But sometimes they go out and live their lives so their child is not available to play with my child and I have to entertain my own child myself

The absolute pricks.

EdinaTheConfessor · 22/06/2026 17:15

Turns out I’m the annoying neighbour. Knocked on next door to retrieve football that went over the fence and got an earful as DS has been kicking the ball against the fence and it was starting to get damaged.
No idea why they haven’t hold me before I would have bloody stopped him!

FFSItsTooHot · 22/06/2026 17:18

Thankfully my immediate neighbours are pretty considerate. But,I live above a parade of shops and it's the people who pull up in their cars to go in the shops that piss me off. Always seem to have some racket, which they call music, blaring from their cars. This goes on all day from when the mini supermarket opens at 8am until it closes at 11pm. Some of them have it so loud,it makes my front door vibrate. And I live up 2 floors! The neighbours who are a bit further away, with gardens, are obsessed with barbecues the minute the weather warms up. Thankfully it doesn't always affect me,but if the wind is blowing towards my flat I get the benefit of the smoke drifting in the kitchen window. And don't get me started on the kids in these houses, playing on the trampoline until 2 in the morning, screaming and shouting. I'm surprised that their immediate neighbours haven't complained yet.

willitevergetwarm · 22/06/2026 17:27

Only one out of our 3 attached neighbours use their garden and you would never know they were outside most of the time

We love our garden and are outside a lot when not working, but we try not to distrub anyone else's downtime.

We do have the grandkids over a lot and we do love a BBQ, but we still try to be considerate of others

palran · 22/06/2026 17:36

Half the country must be stoned out of their heads judging by the weed wafting posts!

I've only to deal with three little kids next door who splash in the paddling pool and use the trampoline after school, and squeal a bit (a lot!) until mother let's a roar at them to be quiet or takes them in for a bit.

DinoLil · 22/06/2026 17:41

Shitting all over my garden.

Bloody neighbour cats.

WheresMyHatGone · 22/06/2026 17:42

My immediate next door neighbour is lovely but the house that backs on to part of the other side of my garden have given their small SEN child a harmonica.
They are pre-school age so I have listened to it from (before) dawn til (after) dusk. The parents seem to think it is hilarious that the child is out playing it merrily in the garden while it is driving me slowly demented.

Hotafternoon · 22/06/2026 18:05

Despite the tuneless whistling buffoon nearby, my immediate neighbours are very quiet usually, don't play loud music, no kids involved, one dog who never barks, however, builders are in one side so it's going to be a long, noisy and dusty summer but it'll end at some point.

Feel sorry for so many on here with appalling neighbours, makes life so hard to enjoy your own home and garden.

💐for everyone with shitty neighbours

looselegs · 22/06/2026 18:32

My neighbours think that because they're in their own garden then nobody else can hear their conversations.....
The guy on one side works for the police and walks around his garden having very loud conversations on speaker phone about prisoners ....
The other side still have their son living at home- he's 52!- and all we hear his him wittering about customers at work, his washing and vapes...on a monotonous droning voice...but there's no conversation- he literally talks at his parents and they can't get a word in!

RafaFan · 22/06/2026 18:38

Brawling in the yard, until the RCMP came and take some of them (and their beer) away. To be fair, we've lived here (rural Canada) for 14 years and this is the first time anything like this happened. Great entertainment for the whole neighbourhood.

NorthernSarcasticandDownrightFantastic · 22/06/2026 18:46

I mean, mine sent me a picture of his pen's....

My neighbours are doing the same as we are - bbq on, kids are laughing and playing in the pool and we’re enjoying the cooler evenings outside after sitting in a hot office all day.

Enjoy 😉

WinterTreacle · 22/06/2026 20:01

We’re on week 3 of 6:45 am wake ups by the ‘landscaper’ hired by next door. Every day hammering and power tools. I literally am running on about 4 hours sleep a night with that and the heat. And weirdly he has the smallest garden and I can’t see much progress being made!

Noodles1234 · 22/06/2026 20:16

Mine have a bar, 2 outside TVs (one is a projection), hot tub, BBQ, fire pit; smoke weed, vape and have a ruddy Swingball. Yet they act out the front like the Queen …
Gardens now are entertainment areas. Wish they’d spend the money supporting the local economy and go down the pub.

Souredgrapes · 22/06/2026 20:23

Planting out audio mole scarers then going on holiday for 10 days . I had no idea how infuriating they could be , I’m not normally rattled by noises but 4 of them going off every 10 seconds in torture. He’s quite deaf so won’t be bothering him when he get back either. 🤣
Also
We have 2 yappy dogs who we keep under as much control as we can , they don’t yap for long but it does mean I don’t feel I can go around and ask him to scare the moles another way . Maybe I’ll just let them tap in future . 🤗
