What are your neighbours doing to annoy you this summer?

For the past two evenings, just as it's finally cooled down enough to open the windows, one neighbour has fired up a BBQ and another has lit a log fire.

I know people are entitled to enjoy their gardens, but the timing feels almost impressively irritating.

Anyway, rather than sitting here seething internally while my house slowly fills with eau de smoked sausage and bonfire, please tell me about your neighbours' most gloriously twattish habits.

The more petty and irrationally annoying, the better.

Help me feel less alone 😂

Well, the magpies are crawing the crows are cawing and the blackbird and robin are singing them hearts out. We moved here on December and its magical.

TeaIsLovely · 21/06/2026 20:13

smoke fags, smokers cough, talk shite, smoke weed, high pressure cleaning, twatting about with wheelie bin and talk more shite.

Moonstarsrain · 21/06/2026 20:14

My neighbour started jet washing her back garden. This then ment my husband needed one because suddenly we had all sorts that needed a jet wash. £105 later but he kept one out of the three kids busy at least and my car is sparkling! ✨

Frazzledandfried · 21/06/2026 20:15

Not repairing the fence even though it's been getting worse and worse for at least the last 3 years! Its at the point now that all the panels are flopping over or missing entirely, no privacy for either of us and just looks shit.

JohnBullshit · 21/06/2026 20:15

I've learned to filter out neighbour chatter, because it's usually too dull for earwigging. DH can't do that, and is driven mad by constant burping and the laughter that apparently ensues.
They haven't lit a barbecue yet, thankfully, because that would go right into our bedroom window. One thing I do hate is that Mr Neighbour has evidently retired, but still keeps early hours, and I can hear the fucker clattering around in his shed before 7am, 7 days a week. That's before he gets this week's choice of power tools out.
One year they had a cement mixer clunking around daily, for months. They didn't actually build anything.

Completely ignoring the food on the feeder… bloody birds.

Just take some really deep breaths. You’ll soon feel better.

lol worth a try

Cook curry that makes the whole street stink. I can imagine how much spice they use to make that smell from about 10 houses away.

The blackbirds and robins sound delightful, but the magpies are serial killers. Those little fuckers have already deposited one dead mouse and two dead birds in our garden this year.

Well we have one who has extremely smokey BBQs that are like an actual fire and he’s nearly killed me twice. I’m asthmatic and the smoke gets in the house it’s that bad.
Our nosey elderly next door neighbour pops up at every opportunity ( which is probably good for security) He appeared when DH added a roof box to our car to say “ I thought it was a Russian drone when I saw it through the window “
DH said we’re going away, need the extra space.
Replied “ Oh I don’t have a problem with it”
OK then!

Money well spent then ✨

Ours have a robot hoover which they seem to start around 7am. They also have musical instruments (including a piano!) Which starts any time for 7am too

rosiebr · 21/06/2026 20:25

Cutting down the trees in their garden and removing all of our privacy. Cue us having to invest in new blinds. Then coming to ask if we can cut down our tree as it’s blocking their view. Honestly, they are so blatant.

I can't filter it out either! I don't know why, I wish I could! I think it's probably because it's very quiet around here and I love listening to the birds (so I don't want to put music on or create my own noise or wear earplugs) and then they start their mundane, banal but quite loud utterances and noises.

It's really noisy at work, sometimes quite distressing noise (screaming and shouting) but from lots of sources and I'm not trying to enjoy the peace - I filter better than most at work!

Got a very fucking yappy dog. And their chosen method of dealing with this is to yell "pack it in!" repeatedly at the poor bugger.

Absolutely nothing. Same as they do the rest of the year.

absolute bastards 😉

Thoughts and prayers. It must be awful living next to people who leave you with nothing to moan about on the internet 😄

Hangs washing out nearly every day and makes me feel inadequate. Granted I only see it from the guest bedroom window but still...

WhatWouldYouDo223 · 21/06/2026 19:53

Bitching in the garden about me parking outside her house on the odd occasion on an unrestricted road 🤣 and not anyone else that does it. She thought no one heard her.

She can’t drive.

Apparently she’s gonna buy an old motor and pop it in front of her house to stop it.

whatever floats your boat hun, spend that money 🤣 I could not give less of a fuck about entitled parking debates.

😂 do you think she got that idea from MN?

My very small parcel was delivered to their garden instead of mine, so they threw it in the bin. I have photo evidence of the delivery. When challenged became abusive. Many many similar situations. Everyone hates them but they don’t seem to care.

SadiraOfTyr · 21/06/2026 20:42

Selling up. They are utterly delightful and we are worried about who might move in next, as we share a drive, water supply and septic tank so if will make life complicated if they are difficult. DFLs with a fleet of giant SUVs and no understanding of private drainage is my worst nightmare.

Eastie77Returns · 21/06/2026 20:04

One made an absolutely gorgeous cake (she bakes them every Summer) and the absolute witch wrecked my “healthy summer body” meal plan by dropping off several slices which I’ve devoured.

I have two neighbours. We take in each others parcels and no-one blocks anyone else’s drive. They don’t smoke weed or have dogs that bark all day. They both have young DC and I have never sat in my house fuming because the kids have been screaming in the garden or bouncing a ball continuously. We sometimes all go out for a meal together.

I know all of this makes me a complete outlier by MN standards😭

Classic neighbour sabotage. Some people use noise, smoke or security lights. Yours has chosen cake. Arguably the most effective weapon.

They’ve been very considerate of my 3 and 6 year old who’ve definitely let out the odd scream and squeal today while playing in the paddling pool. They’ll probably invite me round for a drink tomorrow night, or bring me a bunch of sweet peas picked fresh from the garden, or wheel my bin back down my drive for me - utter twats. Pray for me.
