It disheartens me when posters don’t read the facts or info the OP mentions in the OP or other posts.

Read the thread before commenting.

I can’t say I give a fig what anonymous mumsnet obsessives think about me.

all I feel for them is… well a bit of pity if anything!

Ah well, I find it a bit sad that there are people who persist in behaviours which are of no benefit to them, but which they know may impinge on other people’s enjoyment. Antisocial media.🤷‍♀️

I read all the OP's comments but I'm not reading 750 other posters' remarks.

You could quickly scan a page though couldn't you?

So if the first page is a sea of 'report' or 'cancel the cheque' or 'dentists don't support dummies' or 'grapes are a choking hazard' you could see that you adding that might not be particularly helpful?

That's what gets me - is that people saying the most obvious thing think they have something significant to say and don't contemplate that it may have been said already..by dozens or hundreds of people and seem to think 'well surely no-one else has thought of this'. Really?

G5000 · 22/06/2026 11:06

It's the egocentric worldview - I am the centre of universe, everything is about me, everyone else must want my personal input, every question requires that I answer it, whether I actually have anything useful or relevat to add, or not.

It's like people who specifically open a survey to then respond 'no opinion'. Or responding to FB post looking for plumber in Bristol that 'I don't know any' or 'I'm in Manchester'. Yay great, you have given us your very special opinion, thank you!

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 22/06/2026 11:13

‘Don’t you know who I am? I am Me, with Important Opinions! Listen and learn from Me! (But I just need to mention that I don’t care what you think of me, I care so little that I’m going to announce that too.)’

No. Literacy is.

It's very important.

Sure is
at work and indeed in RL generally

Am I going to plough through sometimes dozens and dozens of OP novel length updates? Nah

I will read what I want, to the extent I want and post what I want. On mumsnet. On a chat forum that will be forgotten by all sometimes by the next day.

Turntheswitch · 22/06/2026 13:33

Guessing you’re a committed regular in Pedants Corner @CoolGreenBee ??

CoolGreenBee · 22/06/2026 10:35

I feel like you're trying to flex or something?

You're not.

You're basically saying I waste my time and yours and don't care what you think and if you care about MN, you're ridiculous and should just not and do something else?

How about you do something else then? If it's not important and you don't care, there's hundreds of not-important things you could be doing that don't waste other peoples time and effect an entire website.

No I am saying I take Mumsnet for what it is… froth, passing the time, posting on threads here today, gone tomorrow. And give no thought to what other posters think of me.

In stark contrast to RL where I work, socialise, parent, live.

25+ years ago, when I first started participating in online discussion forums, somebody posted something that has stayed with me. She said only add your post to the discussion if you’re expressing a new idea, don’t repeat the same points other people have made. I wish MNers would follow this advice. Though it would mean that most threads would be considerably shorter than they are now. 😅

I often comment when I think the OPs getting an unfair hard time (very frequent). I dont care if its been said before. Ive been the victim of nasty pile-ons caused by people not reading the thread properly so I know what it feels like.

Yeah, I don’t suppose anyone reasonable would object to repeated supportive posts.

Their prerogative not there.

Nobody objects to or complains about anyone reading as much as they want on MN.

What they object to is posting when you haven't read what you're responding to.

Because you still haven't said what the point is? What is the actual point of you feeling that you need to reply to a post you haven't actually read or understood?

It makes you look foolish or illiterate, wastes your time, the OPs time and the time of everyone reading the thread.

So why? if you're just wasting time and it's not important, you can just read. Why feel you have to respond?

Does anyone actually owe you an explanation about this?!!!

I couldnt care less what someone on some random forum thinks about me, I barely care about what real people think about me.

Like others, I post if I fancy, dont post if I dont fancy, I use this to while away a few mins or a few hours, it doesnt bring anything in particular to my life and I dont try to bring anything in particular to anyone elses life via this forum.

Although I did post a riveting thread about baked beans the other day, perhaps you havent seen it? It would enrich anyones life I think.

Goatsarebest · 22/06/2026 18:06

'A women in a sane sex relationship' 😂

Plantchoc · 22/06/2026 18:24

The amount of times I have seen some of the hardcore mumsnetters pour their heart and soul in to a thread…. Horrified at anyone questioning the OP or remotely doubting the Op or having the audacity not to read all 196 updates from the OP and…. Pfft the thread is pulled because it’s a troll.

I have a little chuckle to myself when I see the deletion message truth be told!

Plantchoc · 22/06/2026 18:27

champagnetrial · 21/06/2026 17:25

I'm sorry, op. that sounds tough. I would probably prick it with a fork until it pops. Failing that, say if it's not sorted by Tuesday you'll refer to the ombudsman.
HTH😊

This made me laugh out loud!!

Oh me too, a nice hearty laugh in my case.

I can often see the way a threads going and all the self righteous 'how dare you question the OP, she is SUFFERING'

And I think 'not long to go now'!!!

I see the same hardcore mumsnetters do it time and time again
