AIBU to conclude women pretty much always outshine men overall?

Or is it just me? I find that men, as nice as they can be, are just a little bit shit.

And even if they’re not shit, they’re just not as good as the woman they’re with or a woman of similar age and circumstance.

I see it everywhere. My parents. Friends’ relationships. Colleagues. The sense of entitlement, putting themselves first, not being as organised, not thinking ahead in the same way, letting their mood affect everyone around them…. I am not saying women are not like this, of course they can be. But it’s rare it’s to the extent of men.

Maybe it is just me. I’m old and cynical these days.

It's sad. Because I work in a school.

I see the teenage boys charging round with loads of confidence.

I see the teenage girls having low confidence and constantly treating the boys like the boys are better than the girls are.

Weirdly, I have the opposite experience. Women are a little bit shit.

@Princejoffyjaffur in what ways? Genuinely interested.

I'm not @Princejoffyjaffur, but in lots of ways! A lot of them (us!) are snide, mean, passive aggressive, and lazy. I may be a bit biased as I know loads of great men and loads of mediocre women, but I think that the whole 'who rule the world, GIRLS!!!' mentality has gone way too far and led very ordinary women to think that they are incredibly special just owing to their sex.

Most of the women I know are just a bit wet and won't do anything strenuous for themselves. They whine they can't do DIY or sort their own finances out and get their husbands or parents to do it for them. My mum is having a massive crisis at the moment because she has realised grandad is too old to do all these things for her anymore and she can't rely on her husband to do them because he's a bit useless too so she has to actually sort things out herself now. Many middle aged women I know are having the same crisis. The only women I know who actually sort shit out themselves are my age (32) or younger.

Exactly. I'm 43 and I freely admit to being a bit of a princess, but I at least know how to do basic practical things like finances, and I am a great cook so I feel I earn my keep (DH is an awful cook!) My DH is a way better person than I am, but luckily for me, he adores me.

@BettyJoanPerske you really think overall women are more aggressive than men? Do you know the stats on violence, murders, rapes etc? I am genuinely surprised you would still consider women to be more aggressive.

You seem to be defining aggression solely as a physical act of violence. Someone can still be aggressive without lifting a finger.

I said passive aggressive. I don't care about the minority of violent men, that's not who I'm talking about.

Yes, and the members of the public who tackled the armed terrorist at fishmongers hall, one with a fire extinguisher and one with a ceremonial narwhals tusk. They were men. Saved many lives.

One was a convicted murderer who received a royal pardon for his actions

For balance, the terrorist was also a man.

Its almost like human beings are complex and varied.

Sure, they are, and I don't disagree that most (not all!) physical violence is done by men. That doesn't mean that women are 'better'. Both sexes have very similar rates of violence against children, which shows that it isn't that women are better than men, but that all people have the potential to be violent against those weaker than them.

I think another point to be made is that men are far more likely to be the victims of violence than women. That’s not minimising violence against women for one second, but men and women both need protecting from violence perpetrated by violent people.

@BettyJoanPerske but it’s not about the minority of men. It’s the fact that it’s men and not women (in the main) who are responsible for such things

That isn't what your OP said, you said that women 'outshone' men. You didn't talk about violence (which is perpetrated against children by both sexes, so it is about power, not gender) Women do not 'outshine' men in any way IMO.

Augustus40 · 24/06/2026 14:00

This is why I have stayed happily single for years on end. Now I am older and wiser shall we say.

After 4 relationships when younger I know it is not all it is cracked up to be!

The fact that men commit the most dangerous crimes does not imply women “outshine” men.

Exactly. The OP is talking about two completely separate things. Plus, as I say, it isn't that women aren't violent. It is that we are physically weaker than men, so less likely to be violent against them. Statistics around intimate partner violence show lesbian couples as the most likely to be violent to each other, and women are just as violent towards children as men are.

What kind of backwards logic is that?

"Because X did bad thing, therefore Y is better"?
