Burnham has won. More turmoil?

Now Burnham has won, it will trigger a leadership contest, and if he wins, a new chancellor of the exchequer.

Surely this cannot be good for the country, or its finances?

YABU - Burnham is a true leader who will improve the UK for everyone and be a competent and respected leader.

YANBU - FFS, here we go again.

Count Binface polled more than half the Lib Dem vote and a third of the Greens.

Calm, level-headed, essentially trustworthy. He has made mistakes, sure, but I believe he has the country's best interests at heart. But if he is going, I'm Team Burnham, and of course I have warmed to him as someone who seems confident and who is more at ease in the spotlight than KS.

Level headed? He can’t answer a single question without giving the exact same responses he’s been giving for the last 2 years. “Let me be clear”, “I have a mandate”, “we have had 14 years of austerity from the tories”, along with everyone who doesn’t agree with him being “far right”. Ffs man change the bloody record, we have heard it for the last 2 years now. He’s like a robot on repeat. Fits in well with that blank gaze of his

Candlesnuffer · Yesterday 12:24

Not happy. I voted for Labour and Starmer. I'm fine with Starmer. I supported his attempt to change welfare which he was over ruled on by his backbenchers. Happy with him dealing woth other countries. Things are improving.
There's a good chance Reform will get in if Andy Burnham becomes PM.

I don't really see anything in your rant that merits a response. But you do you.

Because you can’t think of one. Because Starmer cannot govern this country by using the same robotic lines to answer every question he’s asked! Says it all really 😂

And Liz Truss made it to PM. The cream doesn’t always rise to the top.

Very briefly!

Yes, but I don't see KS as coming across like an android. He's just 'grey' and quiet. For me KB appears like someone who is constantly putting on an act, or worse still, she is actually like that, a person who seems very detached, which I cannot trust.

Ok you don’t, but too many do hence him going. I don’t get the laughing etc below when the leader for your party is pretty much about to be ousted for the issues in your android line. In part, he’ll be ousted for other stuff too.

Pinkandpurplehearts · Yesterday 12:33

Mcdhotchoc · Yesterday 12:11

At least Reform didn't win.
Labour clearly need to go with a popular vote and someone with more personality. Let's hope it's enough to consolidate the vote away from the far right.

How does he propose to actually grow the productive capacity of the economy (ie true economic growth) or is he just fixated on redistribution of what is currently made?

Well, OK then, I'll humour you since you're so desperate for an answer.

Nothing in your post suggest KS is not level-headed, you merely imply he is not a very inspiring political speaker. And he may not be a firebrand or the most crowd-pleasing orator, but he is definitely a cool head and someone who has calmly steered the country through some very choppy waters.

A lot of the KS hate has been stoked by the right-wing press with vested interests.

But as it looks like he is going, let's focus on the future, which is hopefully Andy Burnham.

ClarkeandNewman · Yesterday 12:43

None of that is actually true, is it? It's polemic.

Gaslighting and shutting down half the population and calling them “far right racists” and ignoring their concerns for protesting about immigration is not ‘level headed’, it’s narcissism! Oh and don’t get me started on him appointing Mandleson the paedo lover

The right wing press will like him even less.

You don't think the thugs trying to burn people in their own homes are fir right racists but have reasonable concerns?

OK.

Maybe, but hopefully there are enough voters with a brain who can see beyond the toxic propaganda.

And the rest of the people who protest peacefully? What about Rhiannon’s Whyte’s mother who has repeatedly tried to reach out to Starmer only to get ignored. The man is a disgrace!

No he managed to get here on his own steam, Labour have to move on from blaming the press.

Burnham did well in the by-election, go with someone who’s not an electoral liability. He might turn it around, wait and see.

What is this obsession people have about people's mannerisms and looks in politics. It seems if people disagree with someone's politics they feel happy in providing a personal critique of the mannerisms or dress sense or how they eat.

Quite frankly I couldn't give a flying fig as long as they do a decent job and things get better for everyone.

I completely agree. How they look and what mannerisms they have is the least important thing about politicians imo

soddingspiderseason · Yesterday 12:56

The hatred of Starmer is driven by right wing press and social media, and Reform’s incessant personal attacks on him. He’s a decent man, doing a great job on the world stage, trying to turn round 14 years of utter shambles by the Tories. If you actually ask people why they don’t like him, there’s less clarity, its just soundbites. Having said that, if Burnham can face Reform head on and show them for what they are, then so be it.

I don't think the far right marches can be described as 'peaceful' by any stretch of the imagination. And one man committing a crime does not warrant a large-scale witch hunt against all immigrants.

MushMonster · Yesterday 12:58

DrBlackbird · Yesterday 07:50

I blame Streeting, not Burnham though for triggering the start of it all. The country desperately needs some stability and those two idiots are about to take it away from us in a depressing leadership contest where what we need is sensible.

This ^

I was so disappointed in Streeting going into sanctimonious power play when he was good mates with Mandy fgs. But he couldn’t resist sticking the knife in, et tu brute. And as someone pointed out earlier, the U turns are due to the Labour MPs themselves. Many of them are idiots.

I’m sick to death of this f’ing egotism driving our politics to such an extreme degree. This country does not need another leadership contest or another PM atm. Burnham could accept a cabinet position and help Starmer run this country but I doubt that would appease the man’s ego.

And where is Starmer's blame? It is Starmer who has promoted his mates (Mandelson), is in the process to give contracts to his dodgy dealings mate related company (Pallantir). In full Tory style. With a man who has been found sharing UK assets info with Epstein, amongst others...
If Starmer had stayed away from Mandelson, Starmer would remain in power. It is his own doing.

Oh yeah but the Palestine ones are all ok then and never violent. Give your head a wobble!
Ah well… if you can’t see that most of the country are dissatisfied with Starmer, then more fool you! You are obviously one of the easily manipulated!
Oh what it must be like to go around with your head buried in the sand while being unable to see what most people can see as clear as day 😂 I mean the whole point of the Makerfield by election was set up to oust Starmer. But you carry on oblivious to it all lol

No it isn’t! He’s brought it all on by himself. Even a lot of his own party want him gone. He’s had more resignations from his members in the last few months than I think I’ve ever seen in such a short space of time.
