Ashley Cain comments about women

Hardliner · 17/06/2026 10:11

He's not particularly on my radar, but I just read this and felt floored all over again about how some men feel about women.

I know the comments were years ago, but this kind of vile misogyny doesn't exist in a vacuum.

What a crappy start to the day.

BBC presenter Ashley Cain called women ‘slags’, ‘sluts’ and ‘bitches’

Exclusive: Cain has been lauded by corporation for his appeal to young men despite history of abusive and misogynistic remarks

Im not saying its ok - but the tweet examples in the article all sound like replies to people. It doesn't show what their original comment was. Maybe their original comment was highly offensive and he was matching their energy. The wording is still wrong, but it doesnt give us a full picture.

You really believe that’s true?

I don't know why else he would continue having such a monstrosity on his face. I don't like the guy as per my comments earlier in his thread, and I have known of the scandal around him for 10 years when he first came onto the reality TV scene, but I don't doubt that the guy loved his daughter

ToyStory75 · Yesterday 07:49

He is vile. The way he treated Saffiya (Sp) was appalling.

MyWildOliveGoose · Yesterday 07:54

He monetised his terminally ill child. He spend 1.5mil in go fund me money raised for said child on himself and his image. He became a z list celeb from said image. He abused the child’s mum. He has promoted toxic masculinity and toxic coping mechanisms for grieving for years. He’s never been a nice man. I don’t understand how he’s managed to fall so far under the radar.

TheCurious0range · Yesterday 07:56

If anyone had watched 5 minutes of him on ex on the beach it was very clear how he viewed women.

Looks like the BBC are giving him the heave-ho

Employed by the BBC you say? They're never going to learn are they?

This.

Vile individual

I don't think he was replying to anybody though when he secretly took explicit photos and videos of a woman and posted them online. Needless to say without her consent.

Because it's a nice sympathy story to continue the grift.

I cannot think of any comment where misogyny is a reasonable response. You can “match somebody’s energy” with degrading 51% of the population.

And some of the comments were just rank sexism.

Good. Sounds like they latched onto the “popular with young men” claims and forgot to do the most basic due diligence.

And unhygienic.

So he’s even using his daughter as an excuse for having that gross beard? Wow. That is a whole new level of vile

Without defending him - beards aren’t necessarily unhygienic.

I don't know who this guy is but OMG his beard is really bad, so so manky and his mouth inside that matted thatch looks like the clenched butt hole of a sheep that's been living lost on a moor for 10 years

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Musney · Yesterday 12:20

I wonder if mumsnet reversed it's gender descriptions how would we all feel then

Perhaps we should lead by example and stop being abusive and sexist to men in our replies

This is pure poetry

Glad to hear the BBC aren't going to broadcast the second series of this chap's show, and have no plans to work with him again. Shame that the first series is still apparently available on BBC iPlayer. It's also a shame that there's no commitment from the BBC to review their vetting and due diligence policies in the wake of having clearly not even slightly bothered to check any background on this man.

And yet there seems to always be a woman justifying them as "bants". Happens on every, single thread about a male tv personality who is sacked for inappropriate behaviour. Even the Russell Brand threads, and he's been charged with rape FFS (and yes, before anyone comes at me, innocent until proven guilty and whatnot).

I'd say that it gives a pretty full picture of a vile misogynistic spouting his offensive views to the world. The context doesn't matter in some situations, and this is one of them. Why are you acting as an apologist for this?

The wording is 'wrong'? Wrong?

Matching their energy, my eye.

Every time, I have my doubts that it's a woman posting. I think it's usually one of the woman-hating men from the dark side of the web paying their bi-weekly visit to MN to hate women a little more.
