AIBU to be English, but really really want Scotland to win the world cup.

After decades of disappointment I've pretty much given up on watching England with any hope.

I have Scottish in laws and love the place anyway but after seeing all the videos of the tartan army in Boston I'd so love for them to win ( however unlikely that may be!)

I want England to win, being English.

But if Scotland won I would be very happy for them. I would be really chuffed. They're my second favourite to win! 🙂

Yessssssssss.. That was a very good match. I really enjoyed it. England played really well. Croatia did too, and are a good team, but England were very good. If they carry on playing like this and don't get complacent, they could go all the way!

I always feel so sorry for England with comments like this. They win one game and people (especially the media) have them going all the way. So then there’s the (almost inevitable) crushing defeat when they lose.

I’m so glad Scotland made it, I don’t think we have a chance of winning, but if we did I’m sure there would be a cool runnings type movie made.

England and Croatia played very well tonight, it was an exciting game. But despite the Croatian goalkeepers efforts, England got a good win. I’d be happy to see England win. That said, there is bitterness on both sides sides, I’ve seen some embarrassing comments from fellow Scot’s, and also felt pretty hurt at some comments/chants from the English fans. At the end of the day, I think on both sides these people are the loud minorities. Everyone else should bear that in mind and reduce their power.

Not true. I’ve literally just said I’d be happy for England to win, there are loud nasty people on both sides. I also think the Scottish can joke in a way that doesn’t quite land with some English people ( and maybe vice versa). Anyway, I’m not into HATE so I’m off. Enjoy the rest of the Cup.

Yougov polls for the last world cup only had about a quarter of Scots rooting against England, for example.

You're probably just hearing the loudest voices, not the majority who are either well-wishers or ambivalent.

Honestly, it feels like there are some in here who are just desperate for England to be universally hated, despite all evidence to the contrary.

I don’t hate the English, I just switch off whenever they play because of the commentary. They have 1 good match & they’re going to go all the way. I love Scotland & the Tartan Army, there’s nae chance of us winning but Yes Sir we can Boogie 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

No we don’t. We really don’t like the media coverage when it comes to England and sport but we don’t hate the English.
