After decades of disappointment I've pretty much given up on watching England with any hope.

I have Scottish in laws and love the place anyway but after seeing all the videos of the tartan army in Boston I'd so love for them to win ( however unlikely that may be!)

Hmm wonder why nobody warmed to you. Maybe wasn't anything to do with your nationality, but something else. And why jealous? Of what? What does England have that other parts of the UK don't.

Amazing what a few years in Scotland does to you. I was young and went full of excitement.

And all the famous Scots choose to live in England. Even flipping Nicola has decided which is the better place to live…

So by that logic, every footballer who leaves England or Scotland to play in Spain, Italy, or Saudi Arabia must be announcing that their home country is rubbish.

Right. Totally nothing to do with the salary, the contract, the sunshine, or the fact that careers are short and people go where the opportunities are. But sure — Nicola moving house is apparently a geopolitical statement now 🙄

celticnations · 17/06/2026 20:38

We Celts have always had to travel.

Rellies worldwide.

Namingbaba · 17/06/2026 20:39

My main support is for Scotland but I want England to do well. I like the premier league and so naturally know a lot of the players more than other teams. I think in general they come across well.
I think sometimes the commentary can rub people the wrong way. I remember watching one match a few years ago and they were talking about England playing “inferior nations” and just talking like it was a given the match was already won. I get if your English that maybe doesn’t annoy you or you don’t notice that but from an outsider’s pov that it can be a bit grating.

Can you take her back? We really don’t want her….

We went to make money in the oil business and then moved on. Sad to see Aberdeen is so run down now.

I don’t think so, there’s thousands of English people living in Dumfries, central belt and highlands

Harry12345 · 17/06/2026 21:05

Infact there’s about 400,000 English living in Scotland

HortiGal · 17/06/2026 21:06

Jesus, what a bunch of miserable c**ts commenting on here, the bitterness oozing out, no sense of fun from Englandshire folks.

Everyone wants to be Scottish after seeing the tartan army. They're brilliant

YourShyLion · 17/06/2026 21:09

There's no Scot seriously thinks we're going to win the world cup, it's all tongue in cheek because we've got a great sense of humour as a nation, but it'll be fun while it lasts! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@countrylife00 I’ll hazard a guess nobody spoke to you because you’re a judgmental bigoted snob, just a wild guess.

If you ever find yourself at Murrayfield Park for a Scotland home match, be ready—the Tartan Army’s roar is something you feel in your chest. With our son playing professional rugby for Scotland, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing it up close, and it still leaves us amazed every single time.

What rubbish.

Youre the only Scottish person that ive ever heard say that. We are English and live in Scotland and they absolutely cannot stand the English football team nor its fans. It seems to be a competition of who can hate us the most.

During the euros every single England game my local city was full of people wearing the opposite sides football tops. And I mean FULL. Every place showing the matches we were the only England fans and when we dared to score and even slightly celebrate we almost got lynched on several occasions. It was totally bizzare, people screaming their heads off, bright red in the face whenever an opposing side scored. Weird and embarrassing.

To note, we have no issues at any other time!

dailychallenge · 17/06/2026 21:54

Well1mBack · 16/06/2026 21:41

Ach well, don't get your hopes up, Scottish football is a source of constant disappointment to those of us who support it. I think all us Scots are hoping for at the moment is to at least make it past the first round of the world cup! 😂

Edit: sorry I meant to reply to the op?! I'm tired tonight ...

Edited

Nope, most Scots are either happy to have just qualified or actually be in Boston. There is no expectation to get out of the group stages.

You’re so blinded by your own bias you’ve stopped even pretending to read what people actually wrote.

Multiple posters have already said they support Scotland or England, yet you’re still trying to speak for them as if their own words don’t matter.

You’re not correcting anyone — you’re just inventing a narrative because the real one doesn’t suit you.

It’s beyond pathetic at this point.

Oh dear … please read some of the other posts 🤦🏻‍♀️

Others had already responded before me, and they managed to do so without the same hidden negativity or pretence.

Harry12345 · 17/06/2026 22:37

From the comments so far it’s more English that have issues with Scottish people

montysmaw · 17/06/2026 22:39

NotAnotherScarf · 16/06/2026 21:41

I understand your sentiments...but do watch the video of Scotland fans in 1977 at Wembley. The media has painted a rosey picture of these lovely Scottish people in their wee kilts and hats... whilst churning out the view that the English are like the hordes of Atilla the Hun. Whilst the huge majority of Scotland fans are well behaved, I have personal experience of the opposite.

Yes, because England has never ever ever had a problem with football hooliganism.
1977 is almost 50 years ago ffs. Almost as long ago as 1966🙄

The Scottish travelling support have actively sought to weed out thugs. Its been largely successful and they are always welcomed wherever they go. Currently the US, last year Germany.
Maybe look a bit closer to home.....

You can make some good money as a senior nurse in the NHS. But not as good as drilling engineers….
