George’s education costs

Honest23 · 16/06/2026 17:53

Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

I don’t care where he goes, Eton does however have experience in keeping young Princes safe from the Media etc.

I'd rather have an educated future king than an uneducated one tbh
William seems to have done well coming out of Eton
Many PMs are ex-Eton, and we vote for them to run the country

What's the real issue, OP

Oh dear, citing some of the PMs who went to Eton has to be the school’s worst advertisement surely?

Honest23 · 16/06/2026 21:54

All really great points on here, I was initially shocked at the price but as many have pointed out its for the future kings education, safety and overall benefit the country will receive.

What job and hours do you do?
William has a full diary and Catherine is a mother to 3 children. She also carries out Royal Engagements.
You obviously have a lot of free time, all the time spent on MN

Yeah right. I run my own company and happen to be off sick, but usually I work FT and run a home and manage DC. But glad you know the advanced search function.

I can assure you the level of engagements Kathryn did was not like the rest of us in terms of work - all in the public domain - pre covid and cancer. She works part time and lives in a privileged bubble, great, but I’m not keen on funding it.

SevenYellowHammers · 16/06/2026 21:58

Apologies for copying AI but doesn’t this show that even Eton Headmasters are embarrassed by the sort of “men” they produce: The Former Master: In June 2023, former Eton master John Claughton publicly admitted regret in a letter to <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=web&rct=j&url=www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/eton-master-john-claughton-boris-johnson-tory-privilege-private-schools-8m0rsmfb2&ved=2ahUKEwiTq76n0oyVAxXmT0EAHUcJKlIQy_kOegoIAggACAAICBAC&opi=89978449&cd&psig=AOvVaw0ZOccFDfndDqY5iDpMOKKm&ust=1781729648375000" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Times that the school had "failed" to curb the sense of "privilege, entitlement and omniscience" in alumni like Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg, and Kwasi Kwarteng, whose actions had damaged the country. 1]
The Former Headmaster: In 2019, former Eton headmaster Tony Little stated at the Henley Literary Festival that the nation would have been "better served" had Boris Johnson, David Cameron, and Jacob Rees-Mogg not all been educated at the same school. 1]

I don't think William or Kate work all that hard. Relatively few engagements and mostly fun things like Ascot or football matches, that is not really 'work', like cutting ribbons and visiting factories. They want a glamorous celebrity life and rather than a life of duty. Note all their glossy cards and family photo ops.

Nothing like Princess Anne or Charles, who are much older.

I'd say William and Kate have a good deal, and if George follows in their footsteps, so will he.

Much better put than my cobbled together response.

I agree the work ethic was stronger in the older royals.

He should go to a bog standard comprehensive in London IMO to show him how his subjects live.

Why, would you send yours there if you could afford private school?

WhitegreeNcandle · 16/06/2026 22:06

I thought they might have used this opportunity to break away from Eton and send all three to the same school ie Marlborough.

I agree. After all, Eton has turned out first class leaders like David Cameron, Jacob Rees Mogg and Boris Johnson so what could possibly go wrong?

Must say, after hearing the excruciatingly eloquent take down of Tronald Dump in King Charles speech, I am all for educating our future king to the same level.

I am by no means a royalist - but people generally forget that our heads of state in effect mentor prime minister after prime minister after prime minister during their tenure as King/Queen…for a mere 1 penny of my earnings, I certainly would rather they’re able to take an educated view on proposed Parliamentary action…

The king didn't write that speech. It was a collaboration between one of his aides, No 10 and the Foreign Office. He marked up the drafts by hand - but he didn't write it.

I'm more than happy to pay my penny toward the monarchy.

So you appreciate anyone suffering from cancer needs support? If you run a business, I really hope you are more sympathetic to your employees.
You are taking time off, being sick. Can the Royal Family not do the same?
It’s not Kathryn. It’s Catherine.

Others that spring to mind - Darius Guppy, Jeremy Thorpe, Lord Lucan and how about Crown Prince Dipendra of Nepal (who killed about nine members of his family).

HumberSquid · 16/06/2026 21:47

The point is that the Crown's wealth is built on lands and goods seized from other people. The land could belong to the nation and be protected.

What land has been taken? You mean in 1337?
Stop spouting nonsense.

Calliopespa · 16/06/2026 22:18

£68 grand we are "funding"? Is that each OP?? I'd better get saving...

OP it won't make one jot of difference to any of our lives.

38thparallel · 16/06/2026 22:19

Then there would be fucking uproar because "They can afford to send him private, how dare they take a state school place from a very able student who's parents can't afford it?!! And who is going to pay for the extra security for him and his school mates because now they will also be at higher risk too!!".

Yes, imagine the reaction on here.

38thparallel · 16/06/2026 22:19

@HumberSquid protected from what?

I said pre Covid, I’d not judge what she chooses to do with her life just now, but I have to work as my work keeps others employed, cancer or not.

It’s a reflex spelling of my BF name, but I’m sure she wouldn’t be offended, she seems very nice. She’s a nice privileged, well brought up, wealthy woman, doesn’t mean I agree with her position.

Except they don’t pay the most important tax of all…..inheritance tax. This is how they amass wealth.

IHT is only exempted monarch to monarch. For an example I would cite Margaret's children, they had to sell a lot of her jewellery to pay the tax bill.

bigfacthunter · 16/06/2026 22:36

I am anti royalist and would love for the lot of them to be sterilised so we could in time rid ourselves of the blight that is our monarchy forever. HOWEVER this kid does need to go to an elite private school. He wouldn’t be safe in a regular one. I’d pay 0.014 pence per year (or whatever it is) to keep a small child safe.
