Honest23 · 16/06/2026 17:53

Who here would honestly happily contribute to George’s education costs?

Reported to be £68000 a year at Eton.

I live across the pond where my taxes are being used to remodel a house for a trashy orange man to fantasize that he's Louis XIV, so I don't have a stake, but if given a choice, I'd rather pay someone's school fees.

I would also like to read some articles featuring disappointed social climbers who are sending their kids to Marlborough thinking all the Wales kids would end up there.

You have a completely different political system in the USA , with an executive president .

We will have a figurehead president. No political power.

Can we pin that info somewhere? Who can be arsed to keep correcting the ‘I don’t want president Trump!’ every time that deep misconception is used to defend the current parasites .

Dorothyperky · 16/06/2026 21:27

@SanctusInDistress only 5% of people pay inheritance tax. So your point is?
More money is taken from income tax, capital gains tax and stamp duty.

Why?

So he can be given a hard time for the pleasure of anti-monarchists.

This.

Fegsf · 16/06/2026 21:34

We aren't paying for it. They are paying for it from their income on the duchy of Cornwall estate.

Whysnothingsimple · 16/06/2026 21:34

I’m not sure how his education is being funded, but if it’s public money then yes I’d much rather my taxes be used to fund the education of our future head of state and to fund his security than most of the stuff the government spunk it on.

Fegsf · 16/06/2026 21:35

I wish him all the best when he starts year 9

I'd rather have an educated future king than an uneducated one tbh
William seems to have done well coming out of Eton
Many PMs are ex-Eton, and we vote for them to run the country

What's the real issue, OP

Not sure that the PMs thing is in its favour. If I ran the school which had produced Cameron and Johnson, I would be trying to keep it quiet.

“Legally, I believe, it's the case that he could take the land away from you”

how? (Legally)

The king owns the land and his ancestors granted it to people who in turn sold it to others...but as I said technically the king can remove you from the land. In modern life this is done by means of compulsory purchases

CathyorClaire · 16/06/2026 21:36

Haven't RTFT but it seems Daddy will still get to punt the school run excuse for not doing anything much.

Bit of a result.

Why? Is there a GoFundMe?

Why isn't this in the correct topic?

So, so many questions

By "correct topic," I assume you mean correct forum?

AIBU is unfortunately a dumping ground that undermines the other forums.

Literally all of them "aren't that clever...." ? What is your evidence for that? Have you seen all of their qualification grades? I will agree that some are less academic than others but that doesnt mean anything.

My sister was far less academic than me but because she chose a career that suited her abilities she has far outstripped me professionally and financially!

Pretty sure Charles and Diana had one bad A level between them, Harry is not academic by his own admission and I seem to recall William got ABC at A level, which isn't bad but would be a disappointment in a selective grammar school.

And where do you think they got their money and all the Dutchy of Cornwall lands exactly? A gift from God?

Idontpostmuch · 16/06/2026 21:39

Can't understand why the OP is getting a hard time over this. Seems a reasonable thread topic to me. I don't think it's costing the public any more than if he went to a cheaper school. His parents will fund it from their budget. Whether this budget is too big is for another thread. Money aside, I don't think it's a good idea. It's time the monarchy moved with the times and stopped following ridiculous traditions. There must be other schools that can provide enough security while providing an experience more in keeping with the real world.

We have students at our school who come from a disadvantaged background, with parents who have not achieved. So you are saying they are not clever? Just because your parents didn’t bother getting A levels, does not mean you are not extremely clever. Thank goodness we have faith in those students. Just listen to what you are saying.

OonaStubbs · 16/06/2026 21:40

Do Eton actually charge the royals for their children's education?

Something happened 700 years ago. Doesn't bother me. I hope George has a good education.

It dates back to 1337. Your point is?
let’s hope it’s protected, rather than grabbed by developers or foreign investors.

BlueLegume · 16/06/2026 21:42

I would check out just how much money various alternative education providers get from government per year per pupiil who struggles with mainstream education they are not all people of integrity.
https://www.horizoncare.co.uk Much virtue signalling as Horizon rake in lots of money but are yet to really show proper success in the local communities.

If they can afford to send their son to one of the best schools in the world, which also happens to be their 'local' school, why on earth would they not do it?

And Eton is 'the real world'. Not the world that most people experience obviously. But the future king is not most people.

I imagine there will be security costs, which will be

And can you imagine how much higher those security costs would be if George was being dropped off and collected from a state school every day rather than living full time on school grounds during term time?!

This. I suspect this is one of the securest education settings for him as he grows into adulthood.

Who knows, his father could become king during his school years.

And going to school with his generation of MPs probably isn’t a bad thing either.

Ok, let me rephrase, because the "lots of different ways to be clever" stuff is indeed true but it's so boring it's not worth the derail, and I'm now getting people giving me their life stories on What Is Clever (earning lots of money is an acceptable measure, apparently) and honestly I just don't care.

The Royals are not very academic. So despite the expensive educations, I wouldn't assume they'd pass the tests for selective grammar schools. Can we leave it there? I already have someone barking at me elsewhere that it's morally contemptible to put "smart casual" on a wedding invitation and if the internet makes me eyeroll any further I'm going to snap my optic nerves.

The point is that the Crown's wealth is built on lands and goods seized from other people. The land could belong to the nation and be protected.

FFS I never thought I would be one to defend them but she is recovering from cancer!

Go back to 2019 - Precovid. She was not working that hard. Clearly many part time working women live a priveledged life, but I’m not paying them and fawning over their efforts.

I just think it’s outdated and they’ve fought tooth and nail to preserve their wealth, we however do t get the same breaks. Equalise things and let them live a more private life.

All of history is like this. The USA was "seized" from the native Americans
