Help me pack ten days in ryan air under Seat

Inheritednamechanged · 15/06/2026 22:39

To do a ten day holiday in europe with ryan air under Seat hand luggage only. I think I can do it but I have been met with FURIOUS resistance from people saying it’s impossible. Please tell me your best packing hacks for the smallest hand luggage. I can wash clothes six days in so that feels inmediately like only a six day holiday…. Help!

Take jacket or hoodie. Feed clothes inside the arms and body etc. so you’re basically holding a pile of clothes. Be prepared to wear two pairs of trousers if needed; the second pair doesn’t need to do up! 3-4 underwear, hand wash each day, same for tops. Wear anything you can.

A thin lightweight tote bag to put all the excess in 🎉

I brought 3kg of stuff home in a hoodie once. 🤣 pockets are your friend. You can even get those jackets specifically for loading up with stuff!

I just can’t imagine paying and making the effort to go on holiday and standing there washing my knickers in the sink multiple times in the week.
I mean, just why?
Why make it so miserable? Just pay for a bloody bag.

I take mine in the shower with me, takes less than a minute

I always carry my handbag in addition to my under-seat bag on EasyJet.

I was stopped (Gatwick EasyJet) and asked if I had a handbag under my coat (I did!) as well as underseat bag. Luckily I managed to squash it into my bag but they stood there looking whilst I did it.

Just an FYI swimsuits should never be washed in the washing machine, it makes them deteriorate really quickly (and a see-through swimsuit is not a good look).

I prefer to travel light so I don't have to carry stuff - whether that's around the airport, or on my last day when I'm travelling home in the evening but checkout is early. It's also really annoying to carry something on holiday, not use it, and carry it home again.

My game changers are solid shampoo/conditioner, only enough undies for half the trip (and yes, I can wash them properly - especially with wash sheets like the Dr Beckmann - we usually stay in self-catering as a family so there's a machine, but even if we don't I am happy to wash and wear if it's only once), quicker drying clothes (e.g. I have a nice merino mix hoodie that is fine in spring/autumn and dries quicker than a cotton one, and though I wouldn't plan to wash a hoodie you never know when a DC is going to drop their ice cream down it or even vomit down it).

Rubbish, I swim almost daily, always wash my suit in the washing machine and never once have they gone see through.

You think a minute in the shower washes your knickers after being against your body all day?

Twatterati · 16/06/2026 16:37

Slightly missing the point but I saw an article where people POSTED their clothes to their accommodation because it was cheaper than baggage costs!

Twatterati · 16/06/2026 16:38

Honeyhonay · 16/06/2026 16:28

Yes - unless you’re doubly incontinent or have a flooding period a minute is more than enough.

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 16/06/2026 16:41

Have you actually seen a bag with the Ryanair specified under-seat measurements? Its tiny. I could never do it - not for 10 days.

hopelessbusiness · 16/06/2026 16:45

@Twatterati yes I've just done this on a trip to Edinburgh... parcel of clothing etc delivered to an inpost locker near our accommodation, collected on arrival and posted in same locker on departure.
Cost us less than £8 in total, would've cost £60 ISH with Ryanair's ludicrous charges!

Daisymail · 16/06/2026 17:05

SapphireSteel28 · 15/06/2026 22:41

I did three weeks with one! Just did washing and packed underwear in a neck cushion

Great idea!

Honeyhonay · 16/06/2026 17:10

Twatterati · 16/06/2026 16:38

It does not take a less than a minute to wash the piece of clothing closest to your body, next to the most bodily fluids and functions. In the shower no less which means no soaking and not enough heat to kill bacteria.

🤢

HausofHolbein · 16/06/2026 17:22

What a depressing thread.

One of the lovely things about going on holiday is selecting outfits for various parts (be it from your existing wardrobe or adding new things). Another lovely thing is taking your time to be able to relax and get ready for the beach, for a trip, for dinner and so on.

The idea of shoving the bare minimum into a glorified packing cube does not spark joy.

OnLockdown · 16/06/2026 18:34

I've done 4 nights in a hot country with the Ryanair underseat bag. It was very humid so I wished I'd had more changes of clothes. I did at least pack enough clean knickers for each day!

outerspacepotato · 16/06/2026 18:49

2 pair pants
1 pair shorts
3 tops
2 dresses
4 Underwear and 2 bras
2 pair socks
Sandals, wear sneakers
Shawl for cool nights
Bar soap and bar shampoo, ton of hair balm which does multiple duty as hair detangler/tamer, body balm, hand balm, and so on, travel stick deodorant, sunscreen, lipstick, small brush, hair ties and pins
Kindle and paperback
Phone
Little stick of insect repellent

Yes, I wash stuff in the sink and wring dry and roll in a towel, it dries fast.

I don't like waiting around for suitcases, plus I've had mine lost more than once. I roll up my stuff and I'm off.

UV light kills bacteria.

laurajayneinkent · 16/06/2026 20:20

It can be done if you don't need to take towels, but I'd rather pay the extra for a carry-on case. Can completely understand you not wanting to book a hold luggage suitcase, but why not a carry-on?

Honeyhonay · 16/06/2026 20:33

@outerspacepotato UV light kills bacteria.

Didn’t see the UV sterilising system in your carry on list though.

Socialclimber12 · 16/06/2026 20:36

Do a boots click and collect airside for all your toiletries, buy a boots bag for life and put them in there, then you are allowed to take that on board as well as your underseat bag. I hide my small cross body bag underneath the toiletries as you technically are only allowed one bag. Or hide the cross body bag under your jacket by shortening the strap. Vacuum anything that won’t crease, knickers, pyjamas, socks, swimwear. SHEIN bags work well if you shop there and then I secure them with elastic bands to make them even smaller. They never weigh the underseat bag.
Echo other posters saying the cabin max bags are great

Ohpleeeease · 16/06/2026 20:54

Beachforever · 16/06/2026 10:54

Me too.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking your flight is only costing £50 each way.

It was marketing genius to break down every single element of the cost of a flight in order to reduce the headline price of a one way flight to a few pounds. But it’s just a ploy. Don’t fall for it!

No one needs a one-way flight, you always need to come home. You need to travel with luggage and you’ll probably want a drink or snack whilst you’re up there too.

Just accept that the £50 headline one way price means your flight is actually going to cost around £300, like it always did!

Not so. We fly Ryanair several times a year (the flight times suit us better than the only alternative from our nearest airport) and we never pay more than £50 a head return. We travel light by choice, bring snacks if we think we’ll need them, drink water to hydrate.

I’m happy not to have perks I don’t want included in my ticket price, I’d rather put my money into the local economy and get a decent cup of coffee and fresh food at my destination.

TheBluntSeal · 16/06/2026 21:21

I haven't read the full thread so this might have been mentioned - 'vacuum' bags that you squeeze the air out of rather than need a vacuum cleaner. Slightly less effective as more air remains but still good. Amazon sell a multi pack of them.

Note: pack a spare empty one in case of a split and don't use every inch of the case - keep a little room for less organised packing on the way back.

Hang your stuff in the sunlight

TSA might have a fit if someone tried to take an autoclave through. I used to get some looks and questions when I flew back from transports with medical supplies including bristojets with large needles.

Vivi0 · 16/06/2026 22:02

Why?

Just pay for a bag to go in the hold.

LiteralNightmare · 16/06/2026 22:07

NO ONE NEEDS A ONE WAY FLIGHT.
You heard them. Lol.

I've just done 5 Ryanair flights with the little wheelie case from Primark/Penneys. My trips are max 4 days and it's perfect. I've saved a few hundred quid. A squishy hand bag you can shove in the case before security is needed.

These are my thoughts as well. Sounds totally miserable

YABVU travelling by Ryanair - disgusting airline.

if you want to me uncomfortable and not have enough changes of clothes that’s your problem.

but everyone who buys a ticket on Ryanair, then is surprised that Ryanair is shut, is part of the problem.

HTH.

Exactly this!

It sounds utterly joyless to me! Just get a bigger bag!
