Help me pack ten days in ryan air under Seat

Inheritednamechanged · 15/06/2026 22:39

To do a ten day holiday in europe with ryan air under Seat hand luggage only. I think I can do it but I have been met with FURIOUS resistance from people saying it’s impossible. Please tell me your best packing hacks for the smallest hand luggage. I can wash clothes six days in so that feels inmediately like only a six day holiday…. Help!

Obviously it depends where you're going but I've done 2 weeks sun holidays with just the Ryanair free backpack.

Pack: sandals, swimsuit, 1 dress, as many bike shorts & t-shirts to go under those dresses as will fit ( also used for pjs), only necessary toiletries.

Wear: runners and heaviest planned outfit (normally another dress for me), including travel scarf (that can be used as a sarong/dress), jumper and jacket.

I wash the bike shorts, t-shirts and underwear if needed (normally in sink) as it will dry quickly in a sunny country.

One single dress and one single swimsuit for 2 weeks?

It takes 5 mins to rinse knickers, much better than lugging a heavy bag around, and waiting for it on the conveyor belt, in my opinion. But each to their own.

I’m not taking annual leave to rewear knickers for two weeks that have been licked in the sink a few times.

Some of you are just fucking grim.

GreenCandleWax · 16/06/2026 14:14

Why are you taking only underseat bag OP. I flew a weeks ago with Ryanair, and the cheapest seat options gave one piece of handluggage that fits the overhead bin (typically a small wheelie case), and the personal items bag that goes under the seat. So are all your efforts needed?

Bjorkdidit · 16/06/2026 14:23

That's only if you take any of the bundles offered at the first run of the 'extras we want to sell you'. You can bypass that one and select seat only without a bag later down the line.

Of course they want you to pay £30-40 to choose a seat and take on a bag you may or may not need so they'll try and sell you that before offering you the chance to stick with the one small cabin bag and pay about £10 for a seat of your choice, or take what you're given for free later in the booking process.

That’s not the cheapest ticket, a wheelie case in the over head locker along with an under then seat bag is a paid add on.

2 dresses, wear one and pack one. And yes, the swimsuit will also get rinsed in the shower. Even if you bring 2 surely you are washing them?

Joolay · 16/06/2026 14:29

Take washing liquid

MaturingCheeseball · 16/06/2026 14:29

I think some posters are confusing the small cabin bag with free under seat bag. The under seat has to fit under the seat! I flew two weeks ago and they were checking . Ryanair has instituted a staff bonus for identifying cheeky fs trying to sneak through - fair enough. Why should I be paying when someone else sails through with a ginormous oversized backpack?

I agree that the competitive underpacking sounds desperate and grim! Eeuugh - imagine being squashed amongst a thousand Brit tourists at the Trevi Fountain - all wearing six-day-old knickers 🤢

I'm capable of properly washing by hand

Oooh thanks for this thread OP as we’re doing Ryanair later in year and DH reckons he can do 4 nights either for Berlin in his free under seat case.

If you achieve this OP then you are a friggin goddess and my hero of all time 😁

I’ll let you know!

You simply cannot wash knickers by hand in a hotel sink to be anywhere near as clean as a washing machine will get them, not least when you’re dunking the same grim pair back in the sink multiple times over the course of a holiday.

Delightful.

I don't have any issues, the sun also kills bacteria on them when drying. Although I only mentioned that I wash them if necessary, not that I was repeatedly washing the same ones over and over again on holiday. Do you wash your swimsuits on holiday?

I agree.

It sounds like some pp are taking one or two days’ worth of clothes for anywhere between 7 and 14 days. Constantly rewearing and washing things, rather than spend £30 for 10 kg of luggage. Why would you???

BirdyBedtime · 16/06/2026 14:40

I have travelled for 2 or at a push 3 nights with the Easyjet underseat bag only but definitely couldn't have done longer, or with the old Ryanair size. They have increased their sizing a bit but I still think it's a bit smaller than the Easyjet one.

DH and DS did 2 nights away each with a Ryanair old size but that was essentially 2 t-shirts and two sets of underwear each plus toiletries.

Like other posters I think that limiting to a very small number of items of clothing for a 10 day holiday feels absolutely miserable given what the overall cost will be for the trip.

I personally want to feel good about myself and I wouldn't wearing the same clothes over and over again for 10 days even in a 'mix and match' way.

No because I don’t take one lonely swimsuit for a 2 week holiday like you lot.

Even just having to put it back on when it’s still wet is gross never mind when it’s stinking from days of wear on end. It’s practically crawling itself to the washing machine by the time you’re going home.

That's not the cheapest option. The cheapest option is on the far right past the more expensive deals.

How many do you bring? 14?

I wouldn't put it back on wet, that is gross.

Shallana · 16/06/2026 15:13

As well as your underseat bag, take another small hand bag or crossbody bag with you with your bits and bobs - phone chargers, plug adaptors , sunglasses, purse, book etc. Once you are through security, buy a snack from WHSmith and put your handbag in the WHSmith bag. You're permitted to take a duty free carrier bag on board in addition to your underseat luggage - I this every flight.

Amd being knocked sideways by their blasted rucksaks.

drspouse · 16/06/2026 15:46

Just an FYI swimsuits should never be washed in the washing machine, it makes them deteriorate really quickly (and a see-through swimsuit is not a good look).

I prefer to travel light so I don't have to carry stuff - whether that's around the airport, or on my last day when I'm travelling home in the evening but checkout is early. It's also really annoying to carry something on holiday, not use it, and carry it home again.

My game changers are solid shampoo/conditioner, only enough undies for half the trip (and yes, I can wash them properly - especially with wash sheets like the Dr Beckmann - we usually stay in self-catering as a family so there's a machine, but even if we don't I am happy to wash and wear if it's only once), quicker drying clothes (e.g. I have a nice merino mix hoodie that is fine in spring/autumn and dries quicker than a cotton one, and though I wouldn't plan to wash a hoodie you never know when a DC is going to drop their ice cream down it or even vomit down it).

Oliveoy · 16/06/2026 15:48

Easy peasy OP. I go on many long holidays with minimum hand luggage.

Toothbrush can double up as a hairbrush. Can also be used for scrubbing clothes when washing them.

SunnyRedSnail · 16/06/2026 16:08

@Inheritednamechanged could you not just get one of those Stuffa jackets with all the pockets so all your clothes are in the jacket pockets? As long as you can still fit in your seat I can't see the issue with that?

Surely it's just easier to pay the extra for the cabin bag??

TheKitchenLady · 16/06/2026 16:11

I always carry my handbag in addition to my under-seat bag on EasyJet.

CissOff · 16/06/2026 16:11

Ryanair under seats are absolutely tiny. I couldn’t do 2 nights with one, let alone 10 nights.

Also, to echo what’s already been said unthread, just pay for some luggage allowance - it’s hardly a holiday if you’re surviving with just the basics and are thinking about every item in your case. What about beach towels for a start?

I usually have around 25kg (and sneak a couple more off DH), and I’m culling stuff before we fly. For our family of 4 we are attempting 75kg for our summer holiday but have 10kg each as hand luggage if needed - that’s a stretch.
