AIBU to think this was well deserved?

Kate can glower at people as much as she wants but the monarchy is a rotten institution and people are getting more and more annoyed by it

Give over OP. You’re just bitter.

Really? You have no argument so have to resort to personal attack?

ExtraOnions · Yesterday 12:52

Thousands of people enjoying the event, and a few yellow t-shirted cretins shouting. The anti-monarchists had their chance in 1642 … give it up.

Living in the public eye is no life for a child. Not really a life for an adult. Boarding school is no life for a child. They don't know they are living in luxury, they think they are living normal lives but just have to attend boring events all the time and get stared at.

They don't know they are living in luxury, they think they are living normal lives but just have to attend boring events all the time and get stared at. .

Being unaware of their privilege doesn't make them any less so. In fact, it makes them more privileged.

Yeah you know what? I am.

I’m bitter and angry that while children starve in this country these little sit on a pile of billions for absolutely no good reason, other than some people deciding centuries ago that they had a god given right to preside over us. I’m angry that Kate dares to sneer at people for expressing their opinion while she’s sat in a gold carriage in an outfit that cost more than most people’s monthly salaries.

I'd abolish the Monarchy but I think that's probably a minority view.

The protesters should be free to express their disdain and the royals are free not to expose their children to protests.

Well, to be fair, there a significant debate about revisiting Brexit, so think this argument doesn't hold water. Los a thing they did back then are now abolished and rightly so.

Lifeomars · Yesterday 12:56

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · Yesterday 11:25

I’m not sure the children benefit massively. They’re pretty much bred into captivity and paraded around for the peasants to clap/jeer/gawp at.

It’s not a life I’d want for my children.

This is what I can't get my head round. They could all give up being "royal" and live the most wonderful wealthy and privileged private lives . I find it all so archaic and odd that an accident of birth or a marriage confers so much wealth and yet at the same time so much restriction on people.

You won't be watching the ostentatious order of the garter then? All those knights and ladies being to blame for children starving eh.

Do you think this is some sort of “gotcha”? I think that’s vile too, and the entire system is a joke. Rich people being given medals by more rich people.

The fact the TTC happened on the anniversary of the Grenfell fire is pretty on the nose too.

It’s truly shocking when you see how wealthy Charles and William are. It’s not right.

What are they doing with their wealth though, I wonder. Are they just accumulating more, and more, because that does not sit right with me, all the while being tax payer funded.

And actually the Republicans ended up going the whole hog in the 1640s, resulting in the execution of Charles I in '49. A better comparison would haven been the Restoration in 1660.

Yes, they just amass more and more.

Charles is now a billionaire. When he dies, William will inherit that tax free. And then George will inherit William’s fortune. It is sickening.

Abolished, along with the rest of the monarchy, would be better.

What and then have an elected President? We would have had President Boris Johnson and President Farage in that case. No, I’d rather a benevolent Monarchy than a Trumpian nightmare.

Marmalademorning · Yesterday 13:11

I don’t think King Charles is very popular, and I heard there were chants of “Not my King”.

I must say, I’m not a fan of King Charles.

As an aside, I think they need a rethink of some of the people they are handing awards too. Too many overpaid sportsmen and women for example. And not enough to ordinary people who do good in the community, like Maggie Oliver. I think it’s a travesty she’s not been given a state honour.

Hyperbole. Children don’t “starve” in this country. You are lacking credibility with such nonsense.

4.5 million children live in poverty in this country. 3.1 million of those live in deep poverty.

Around 3.8 million children face food insecurity and hunger.

Child poverty statistics – new record high and further breakdowns

44% of all children living in poverty are living in a household where someone is disabled. 72% of poor children live in working families. Poor families have fallen deeper into poverty.

All because Kate married William.

You are deluded if you think children aren't going hungry in this country. I suppose it's how you define 'starve' but there are certainly children who don't have enough food.

PistachioTiramisu · Yesterday 13:15

OP has really got the bit between her teeth today! I don't think any Royal supporters will persuade her otherwise. I can't imagine being so wound up and jealous because other people have more money than me! I'm not sure what on earth Grenfell has to do with it! Is she suggesting that any date on which something unpleasant/tragic occurred in this country should be avoided in case it clashes with a Royal event???

I think they need a complete overhaul, but I don’t think they’d be willing to commit to that. I was in denmark recently and completely baffled by how easy access their monarchy is. You can walk right up to their palaces, which are smaller than our stately homes. None of this rubbish, they’re respected for their no nonsense approach.

I can’t see the narcissists in our royal family agreeing to that though!

There is a massive stretch between living in poverty and “starving”. I technically lived “in poverty” for quite a few years. My kids were well fed. Your argument loses credibility when you overstretch with the hyperbole. And do you think President Farage would reduce child poverty?
