AIBU to think this was well deserved?

Kate can glower at people as much as she wants but the monarchy is a rotten institution and people are getting more and more annoyed by it

It’s truly shocking when you see how wealthy Charles and William are. It’s not right.

Anyone shouting not my King/Prime Minister has never mentally grown. I hardly think these clowns are the people to scrutnise - from the safety of crowds. All they had to do was vote with their feet but that wouldn't be attention seeking enough. Instead, they coose to boo and jeer in front of children. Classy.

"Never mentally grown"? That's your best argument? Ok then - you do you, but people have the right to protest and old institutions should change, grow or be eliminated over time. That's how thinking people do things . Which , ironically given your post, is growth.

whatyear · Yesterday 12:39

People saying the children don't benefit at all must be on another planet. They have been born with life long financial security - I think that's a pretty big benefit. They'll receive the best medical care, education etc. Yes there are downsides to being in the public eye and having expectations along with being royal, but many would say that's worth it.

Because it's what spiteful cunts do. Full of hate and still living in the past. Never looking inwards, mocking and bitching about the monarchy and nice sunny days out for patriots.

How are anti-monarchists "living in the past"?

HostaCentral · Yesterday 12:40

Didn't the anti monarchy lot get booed by the crowd though?? There are always many tens of thousands of supporters, tourists etc, to about 10 anti monarchists. The issue is, yes you can protest, but actually most people like the pomp and ceremony and just want to have a nice day out, without some loud and annoying protesters spoiling the event. Most people just wish they would piss off, the protesters, not the monarchy.

Well if you think booing and behaving like a toddler is being grown up, you do you. They have a right to protest but shouting not my king is going to change nothing. Gives the great unwashed a day out I suppose.

Miranda65 · Yesterday 12:41

You can have a political objection to an institution, sure, but absolutely nobody "deserves" to be booed at in public, adult or child.
Not to mention that booing people is just incredibly juvenile!

The wealth is unpalatable.

But it’s the parading through the street in solid gold carriages while children starve that I can’t stand

OP posts:
Isitevensummer · Yesterday 12:44

What would you expect them to say in protest then? Because "End Special financial secrecy rules, be transparent about all sources of wealth and stop protecting immoral and criminal behaviour" doesn't have the same ring.

PistachioTiramisu · Yesterday 12:15

The monarchy is NOT a 'rotten institution' - you really shouldn't let your jealousy cloud your thoughts. I think they are great, and Saturday's parade just showed how good this country is at pageantry and events like these. Just look at how few people were 'protesting' compared with the huge, cheering crowds approaching Buckingham Palace!

Is this satire? This country is financially circlinig the drain but, never mind, we're awfully good at the pageantry. Pomp and pageantry don't count for much when everything else is falling apart for lack of money. They're not better than you, they just have more money and my god did they luck out on that front! Get rid of this bunch, and we might be able to start taxing the other landed families a bit more as well.

Kate just looked confused 😁 do think they are significantly thinning out the.monarchy and think this is the way to.go rather than deleting years of history.

That coach they were in was silly though a.nice open top car would have been better.

The.anti monarchists are a small minority and a.bit silly.

That “silly coach” was bought by Queen Victoria.

Sorry?

They live lives of luxury. No problems, ever. All the money in the world. They’ll inherit literal billions.

Yes, they do live lives of luxury and will never be short of money. However, I was watching Saturday's parade and I was thinking that I wouldn't want to have to dress up so formally on a Saturday morning, take a rumbling, uncomfortable carriage down to Horseguards (or ride an unpredictable horse!), and then sit through hundreds of soldiers marching up and down, but there is no doubt it was a wonderful spectacle and those who are invited to attend think it is a great honour. So maybe the money is compensation for the boredom they sometimes have to endure?

38thparallel · Yesterday 12:46

Awful people to have acted like that. Poor kids.

I agree but the op evidently got pleasure from it so that’s something I suppose.

Living in the public eye is no life for a child. Not really a life for an adult. Boarding school is no life for a child. They don't know they are living in luxury, they think they are living normal lives but just have to attend boring events all the time and get stared at.

Abolishing the monarchy will do nothing to stop children starving.

Oh for goodness' sake, they are not 'solid gold carriages' - they are painted gold and SOME gold leaf is applied. They are magnificent.

Huh?

Im not being funny but if that’s their biggest problems they’re incredibly lucky.

Can't say I've ever been bothered to see the old sponge doing one of his "jobs" - must be incredibly boring.

However
Shouting "Not My King" is not to be sneered at. He is unelected. We cannot vote. We cannot remove him until enough people are emboldened to believe that it's possible. And as more shout, more people hear it. The "king" needs to hear it and those in power need to hear it and those blindly defending them (his willing subjects... what a demoralising word) need to hear it. We can't remove him yet but we can publicly reject and condemn him/them. So good on those shouting loud. If the so called king ever stumbles upon the small coastal town I live in i might feel compelled to politely tell him he's certainly not my king and I'll bow if he bows first.

perlana · Yesterday 12:47

George is probably saying to himself, F this I'm outta here when I'm 18, with my big fat trust fund, someone else can do this. See ya.

Thindog · Yesterday 12:48

We are not a democracy when at the heart of our constitution is a hereditary Royal family.
I cannot understand the mentality of the crowds who hero worship this very dysfunctional group of people. Looking at the relationships of individuals within the family it doesn’t seem to be a healthy lifestyle for them either , despite their obscene wealth.Just why are masses of people adoring them?

PP is not saying it will, but its fucking vulgar rubbing their noses in it and expecting them to be cheered up

LovingTelescopes · Yesterday 12:52

It must have been upsetting to have her children booed.

I don't know if it is a rotten institution as OP says but I agree with her that more and more people are getting annoyed by it.
We are a diverse society and it is becoming less relevant to people, many of whom have recently decided to make their homes here and yet the Royal Family remains defiantly, "terribly white" as Adjoa Andoh correctly pointed out.

We are no longer a society of the 1950s-we have many heritage nationalities living amongst us, bring different types of cultural enrichment and it is inevitable that the Royal Family will no longer be relevant, especially as they represent just white faces, not the society we are thankfully becoming.

I don't think there is any need to storm the palace (😂) but as we grow as a multi-ethnic, culturally rich society they will just fade away...with all their billions!
