All so silent. They should hang their heads in shame, surely be publicly be made to take ownership for what they did and be held to account.Cowards, the lot of them.

And surely it’s time we tried to right the wrongs of Brexit.

Heseltine: It’s time to reverse Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage’s Brexit ‘crime’

Exclusive: In a stinging attack on Brexiteers, Michael Heseltine says the British public has been conned

I would have more respect for those who voted Leave if they acknowledged it has not brought what they expected. It has not reduced migration, for example.

My MIL voted for Brexit because she thought it was wrong that the Germans were telling us what to do, despite us having "beaten them in the war". She also didn't like having nurses from other EU countries when she was in hospital.

A couple of years later, she was in hospital again. When she came home she moaned about having Filippino nurses treating her.

It didn't go down well when I pointed out that the reason we had Filippino nurses was because the EU nurses had left because of Brexit, to which she replied "But I didn't vote for THAT!".

She can't see that Brexit was in any way responsible for EU migrants leaving and the gaps being filled by non-EU workers.

I've thought about this long and hard. How does trade barriers and frictions with our biggest trade partner help?

We have seen how economists have got many things wrong in the past, growth figures etc,
if nobody can show definitively that Brexit hasn’t made the UK better or worse, you can choose which figures you want to support your argument. Especially with people who want to prove it hasn’t worked.
I personally can’t say Brexit has failed or been a success it depends on what outcome or result you were expecting, The only thing I can say with any degree of certainty is, the result of the referendum vote was not accepted by a lot of sitting politicians and civil servants etc and they done everything they could to hinder the process to leave the EU, hoping there would be another vote. They never accepted the public’s vote and work together to get the best available outcome wether they agreed or disagreed with the public’s vote, after all they do represent the public.

Youre right, there are multiple reports to draw on that show the economic damage to Britain by Vote Leave.

Have you seen any economic reports that show Brexit has been neutral/ beneficial to the UK?

There are people on Twitter who say things and post some graphs and say "oh look it's all wrong". This woman called Catherine McBride. Idk how accurate she is..I think she's wrong

thestudio · 18/06/2026 17:14

It's fucking sad that we're reliant on Heseltine to say out loud what has happened.

I wish this government had the ability to communicate, and the gumption to do so, especially on this.

I think that now we have the data, lots of people who voted Leave where bad actors (ie Farage, funded by foreign billionaires) were able to lie in an information vacuum would change their minds - IF we had a government who was able to tell that story in a meaningful way.

Boris Johnson should be tried for treason for suspending Parliament unlawfully. Along with Jacob Rees-Mogg who went to the Queen to get it approved.

Aah that useful idiot. Can imagine how the Queen said ‘approved’ through gritted teeth.

Look..it was ruled illegal. But it's a civil law matter. No way Boris should be tried for treason.

was a bit dim[1].

Fixed that for you.

I have heard some carefully thought out and logically consistent reasons for voting leave. (Not on here, of course). These are Leavers who are not dim and whose arguments were cogent and valid. The fact that they were also wrong has now been proved and they all admit they missed a few nuances.

However anyone who spouts a slogan[2] - as is their right - without understanding what it means will forever be consigned to the "you're none too bright are you ?" side of the tracks.

[1]or racist. Same thing.

[2]or posts screeds of cut and -paste without verifying what it claims.

So Brexit has cost us 6% of the economy!

Hope the Tories and Reform are now happy to own the damage they caused and still continue to do so.

Brexit cost 6% of UK economy, Bank of England company data suggests

Analysis showed how much the UK could have grown if it had not exited the EU.

Here we go again, Suggest, no actual prove, more so called damage was done by the stock of the result, What shock ? Most people were surprised it was so close,
instead of harping back a decade ago, why not just work with what you’ve got now,

Absolutely. He showed a shameful lack of insight, integrity and leadership.

Yes, many contributions backfired. Obama telling the UK public that they would go to the back of the queue. David Beckham urged the public to vote remain ,,,

Do you think the NBER study and their economic methodology is flawed?

Yes, how can they strip out the effects of COVID, the whole world shutting down, then the after opening up the dramatic rise in inflation, the war in Ukraine and the dramatic rise in energy prices, yet again causing inflation, more recently the Iran war with fuel and energy prices rising, if we were still in the EU, would the same people say that because we’re in the EU it has caused a slump, but they’re using the same figures to say it has impacted us because we’re not in the EU,
I take anything the Bank of England boss says with a pinch of salt, this is the same person that when in charge of the FCA, missed one of the Uk’s Ponzi scheme that cost investors over £250 Million and had to be bailed out by the taxpayers, His growth forecasts have been widely inaccurate and failed to raise interest rates, which led to the highest inflation levels since the seventies

Is this another version of 'we had enough of experts'?

How is that going?

SerendipityJane · 19/06/2026 12:01

Why strip them out ? Unless you aren't very good with data. Much easier to remember that as global occurrences (like rain) they fell equally across all nations.

But frankly people who try to hide Brexit behind "global events" rather seems to forget that one of the warnings of "project fear" was that in the even of a global crisis, it would leave the UK at much more risk.

So trying to say "you can't say Brexit failed because of global events" is really a different way of saying "You know what we were warned about ? Well it happened. Sorry".

This report is clearly a rehash of the NBER paper. 'Only' 6% now? So have they ditched the 8% claim?

Trade frictions with the EU can't help?
