What's hated on MN, but insanely popular in real life?

Disney World
Starbucks, Costa, Nero etc
Center Parcs
A sensible political stance
McDonald's

What else?

Men wearing no top at the first him of sun.

Edited

To be fair men that have bigger boobs than women and scrawny junkies should keep their tops on.
For the record I keep my top on because what is underneath would be a crime to inflict on the wider populace of the UK.
But I do wear very nice polo shirts and tee shirts in the summer months.

Answering the door, one of life's essentials rather than one of life's pleasures. I ansewered the door 3 times yesterday and am still here to tell the tale.

  1. The postman with a parcel for my birthday
  2. The electrician to do some pre-booked work
  3. My next door neighbour who wanted to ask me something.

Happy Birthday! 🎂 🥳💖

I don't know about popular but I refuse to assume that the majority of people in this country wash themselves and their clothes/bedding etc as much as seems to be advocated for on Mumsnet threads on the subject.

Women. Of which this thread is ample proof.

Actually, scrub that. We are not particularly popular in the offline world either. And yes, Mumsnetters are real people who do exist offline, and who don't somehow magically change our tastes and beliefs the minute we log onto the www.

May be some truth in that.

You get a lot of that in real life do you? News to me 😂

Drinking alcohol on a night out/meal with friends. The Mumsnet poster is ALWAYS the one driving and doesn't touch a drop.

Also not popular in real life in my experience, but a commonly reviled Mumsnet trope is the DH who supposedly arrives home from a night on the lash or prowl. He subsequently crashes around, waking up the entire household and proceeds to urinate and/or defecate himself.

Let me be very clear, so there is no misunderstanding.

I don't want biological men using female chaning rooms.

I don't want biological men using female toilets.

I don't want biological men playing in women's sports team.

I don't want biological men who pretend to be women teaching in our schools.

Is my stance now clear?

If I was to believe it could be possible for a MN poster to be petty, I would think that the poster you are responding to is upset with the use of the word bathroom instead of toilet or lavatory in your earlier post. Pedantry the last bastion of those stuck for an intelligent response😶

Good one. I've never understood the ferocious hate.

Artificial lawns. I’ve seen them a lot in real life and online, but they are hated on Mumsnet (by people who presumably wear plastic clothes and use disposable coffee mugs, and fly on holiday).

Another one that I disagree with. In real life artificial lawns are loathed. I don't know anyone personally who likes them. Not only because they are appalling for the environment, but also because they're ugly as fuck. They look plastic and they look fake. Never seen one that didn't look shit.

And no, I don't wear 'plastic clothes' and use disposable coffee mugs! (I mean WTAF?) 😂 Seriously who does?! 😆 (I have been known to take the odd flight! So shoot me!)

Thebinisrightthere · Yesterday 20:02

To dare to consider having sex when your kids are within a 10 mile radius. How some people have managed to procreate when they have little kids & no childcare is beyond me 🙄

I agree with this. Nature is beautiful - I wouldnt enjoy plastic trees so why would I enjoy plastic grass? part of the beauty of nature is that its natural and smells glorious

Any sex life deviating from the norm is usually seen as perverted. I’m quite vanilla but enjoy some other stuff. I swear most MNers do missionary only.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Yesterday 20:14

If not been said here before, trashy food like instant mash. There’s a whole thread on it here atm. You should mash your potatoes with a ricer and the finest of organic milk. Preferably milked by your own fair hands from your own cow and grow potatoes yourself organially no pesticides.

Thebinisrightthere · Yesterday 16:37

@igelkott2026you just said yourself that they weren't middle lane sitters/hoggers. Therefore not dangerous in these instances. But they are dangerous

Edited

But literally in the wild 80% of people middle lane or even worse outside lane hog. All blaming the person in front of them, who is stuck behind the person in front of them etc.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Yesterday 20:17

Shops like Iceland. Never seen anyone post they go there on here. Yet their hummus was better than one I got in Sainsburys, it’s my new near supermarket at work and it’s good for frozen veg and crisps like cathedral city crisps. I mean it’s a supermarket ffs!

FudgeFudy · Yesterday 20:22

It's already been said, but the first one that sprang to my mind was answering your door even if you don't know who's the other side of it. In fact just not being scared of absolutely everything and generally giving people the benefit of the doubt seems to be a minority pursuit on here.

I will always prioritize the safety of women and children.

I refuse to pander to the movement that women can become men or men become women. They can't.

I mean I don't think you do always prioritise the safety of children, another user said benefits are a necessary evil to stop children going hungry and you said that's 'absurd and dangerous'

Also are you from the UK or the US? As you wrote 'prioritize'?

Are you personally attacking me here? A bathroom is a room with a bath. It’s pretty simple.

Inviting family and close mates to your wedding. MN is so fucking weird and precious about weddings

Snacking. Particularly in the cinema. Or eating on a plane. You should be able to go a few hours without eating! Yes I probably can, but I like food

Yes. If you dare ask for snacks here you get a healthy list the length of your arm. Pringles are the devils own work on MN.
