What's hated on MN, but insanely popular in real life?

Disney World
Starbucks, Costa, Nero etc
Center Parcs
A sensible political stance
McDonald's

What else?

They run at 98% capacity, people go!

Yes but even at two million people going a year that's 68 million who aren't going and many who never would if they had the option to.

And TUI have three times as many annual customers.

GoodkneeBadKnee · 12/06/2026 13:16

Showering every day.

@Heronwatcher I honestly would not turn up at someone’s house without a text first. Unless I need them to call emergency services or something I just wouldn’t do it.

So I do get this with distant friends or acquaintances, but I would definitely drop in unannounced on my family, very close friends and even in-laws if I was passing by. If they were busy or obviously about to leave etc I’d not stay though. And I’d be really happy for them to do the same with me!

Speakeasier · 12/06/2026 13:14

Yep. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if some people these days think Nige doesn’t go far enough!

That's what Rupert Lowe is for, I know someone who is disabled and has spent their life dependant on state support to live, but the want to vote for Rupert Lowe - can you imagine actually being that clueless??

Dontfencemein · 12/06/2026 13:18

Boden, seems very unpopular here but clearly still in business.

Well yes they operate all over the world!

Edited

I’m never just passing by though. I would have to be intentionally going to where they live.

That was the figure for the annual UK customer base, so a direct comparison to Centreparcs.

Startthecar · 12/06/2026 13:22

It’s called Tall Poppy Syndrome

Huh, interesting.
Never heard of this, but oh how true it so very often is.
I don't think there's anything new I can add to the long list but it's been a good read.

No I mean TUI operate all over the world, there is far more choice than CP offer.

So I would expect them to have a far bigger UK customer base.

I think the strongest statistical factor determining whether someone would vote Remain was their education level, so it’s not surprising MN would skew that way. And of course it’s less popular among the general population now. I barely see Brexit mentioned at all on here nowadays, certainly not by Reform voters!

Are you assuming education level equates to intelligence? Ten years ago the majority grew up without access to post 15/16 education. (It may still be the majority, I’ve not looked at the numbers in a while).

nothingpunny · 12/06/2026 13:24

Empathy.

BIWI · 12/06/2026 10:44

Why would you think that?

No. I thought it was a stupid thing to post - and is meaningless without further explanation.

It means “people who agree with me” - I assume people making such comments live in narrow bubbles.

Katemax82 · 12/06/2026 13:26

Fabric conditioner
Kids who struggle massively with school not going (even if it's making them suicidal they "should be in school")
Having a relationship with the ex of Somone you know (I got called ick personified for marrying an ex of my sister)

Blokes becoming women.
Uncapped benefits.
Unregulated borders
Hate of Israel.

Hope that helps

I don’t care what anyone does with their own body, and support the right to present yourself however you like.

Benefits are a necessary evil, I won’t want children going hungry and people living in poverty and I would rather them be uncapped than not exist.

Pro immigration and pro immigrant, people are people regardless of their country of origin and deserve the same rights and respect as everyone else.

Love my Israeli friends, don’t love Zionism or children being killed.

Doesn't that seem sensible to you? Not unnecessarily hateful and I don’t use scapegoats to deal with my frustration at the state of the world.

iluvlucy · 12/06/2026 13:36

Letting a family member least of all your mother in law - come and cuddle baby when you arrive home or in fact anytime before they can sit up unaided lest you spoil your new born ‘bubble’ .. and then get really cross with grandparents who aren’t at beck and call for childcare when it suits you.

WonderWeeksArentReal · 12/06/2026 13:37

No, it sounds absurd and dangerous.

I heard more people who find their MIL horrific in real life than I have heard ones saying they really liked theirs 😂

I am not sure it's a MN thing, it sounds at least 50/50 both online and in real life.

And most of my friends specifically did not want to be invaded by visitors when they came home with their baby - preferring other friends like me, but most certainly not family. It's a thing in real life I am afraid!

I honestly can't think of one person who thinks hogging the middle lane is anything but a pain in the ass, and I have heard plenty of drivers complaining about the car not moving out of the way.

I am not sure that's that popular in real life?

It is or all these cars ‘obstructing’ them would be sandwiched between the lorries on the left.

It’s one of things that people apparently hate but irl they all do.

A sister is a bit more than 'someone you know'.

My ears would definitely prick up if I heard someone had married her sister's ex and my nosy self would wonder if he was a three year relationship kinda ex or a three dates ex, and what the sister's opinion was.
