Is my bathroom wall art ‘tacky’

Please settle a light hearted disagreement…Hubster says the new photo/poster I’ve put up in the downstairs loo will be considered ‘tacky’ by any visitors.

It’s the Mona Lisa but she’s holding her nose - you can see it on Google.

YABU - I agree with your Hubster
YANBU - it’s harmless

I don't know who or what Hubster is so I'm obviously out of touch with modern life but I don't like the sound of your wall print.

TomatoSandwiches · 11/06/2026 20:13

I think it's more ironic than tacky, it's where you shit so a shit take of a famous painting belongs entirely.

Happyhappyzoozoo · 11/06/2026 20:13

Tacky but also harmless. Decorate your house for you, not your guests.

Lowandhandhold · 11/06/2026 20:20

I feel second hand embarrassment for you

both with the vile tacky poster

and the vile tacky ‘hubster.’ Jesus Christ

It sounds tacky. Like something from Temu.

I've been trying to find something for my kitchen wall but I just can't find anything that feels like its not some generic kitchen art from amazon or cheesy.

There’s loads of independent print sites out there now with good selections

About a thousand years ago, when I was a child on a family holiday, I was highly amused by a sign I saw in a souvenir shop and have never forgotten it. At age 10, I thought it was the height of wit. It was a ceramic plaque with a picture of a toilet on it and bore these words:

"Keep me clean and serve me well and what I see I'll never tell"

It might make you happy to know that is a very old joke, it was painted inside victorian chamber pots!
There’s an example if a surviving (if slightly well worn) one on this page :

I'm voting to replace the term DH with Hubster from now on. In fact I am going to start referring to my own Hubster as this.

What would actually be quite funny is a row of old master women (or even men) holding their noses. Not just the Mona Lisa but also the Girl with the Pearl Earring, Madame X by John Singer Sargent, even Whistler's Mother.

Who cleans the loo? They make the choice.

The cleaner? No way does she get the choice of how my house is decorated. Totally unreasonable suggestion

Slowdownyouredoingfine · 11/06/2026 19:32

No it’s not tacky or chavvy. It’s pop art, very popular… it’s not in the same category as ‘live, laugh, love.’ Or ‘in this house we…’ imo. In a nicely decorated vintage style bathroom it adds a pop of character.

And do you really imagine this op has a ‘nicely decorated vintage bathroom’? Seriously?

Would her ‘hubster’ allow it? Is it a manly decision?

Lowandhandhold · 11/06/2026 20:30

TheBlueKoala · 11/06/2026 19:36

I find it funny. But then I'm not snobbish like some posters on here. My kids would love it as well. I am seriously thinking about getting it for our toilet in the hall because it's the stinky one (even if clean because dh poop stinks for hours and ds1 always "forgets" to flush). The bathroom in my room doesn't smell at all and we are 3 to use that to poop- me and my ds- dh is banned from pooping there).

Fucking hell. some peoples lives eh.

What makes you think she wouldn't?

hourspassed · 11/06/2026 20:35

Worse than tacky for me. I don't like it at all.

Lemonyyy · 11/06/2026 20:37

I think it's funny op, but I have star wars posters up in my house so what do I know about taste eh 😂

Calliopespa · 11/06/2026 20:38

Bumbelinaaa · 11/06/2026 20:08

Impressive stealth brag!

Yes indeed.

Maybe get some antique art for your loo op, and then it'll be terribly witty just tucked in there amongst it all.

I actually find anything with that word incredibly crass, whether surrounded by costly art or not.

I agree that more of them would make it funnier

Calliopespa · 11/06/2026 20:41

Whistler's mother would be perfect.

TheBlueKoala · 11/06/2026 19:56

Well I prefer the OPs art then. Don't see why you would think your art is more subtle and sophisticated- it's just boring.

😂

momtoboys · 11/06/2026 20:42

I don't have to look it up. It sounds like one of the tackiest things I have ever heard on here.

SomeOtherUser · 11/06/2026 20:44

I've seen this in the real world. Not something I'd personally choose but I don't mind a bit of tackiness in other people's homes! Some people can pull it off.

Love a good fuck. Literally and metaphorically

how many famous women stifling their noses at a smell of shit would be peak funniness to you? Ten? 100? 1000?

It would depend on the size of the bathroom, but I really think it needs to be a feature wall full

Denim4ever · 11/06/2026 20:49

weeat · 11/06/2026 18:45

I’m not too sure I’d find it funny OP. Mostly folk will just be going for a pee?? and in that case are you commenting on the woman’s anatomy(?!) Maybe for a kiddies loo as it’d be a funny thing for kids. ☺️

How can that be commenting on a woman's anatomy - where's that from as a point of view?

Thepeopleversuswork · 11/06/2026 20:50

I find it a bit cringe but life is too short to worry about what others think.
