What popular places are overrated?

Following on from another thread, what places do you consider overrated that are popular?

Hotel Chocolat = over priced, at best average tasting, would much rather Cadbury's at a fraction of the price.

Amorino = our local one gets packed, as in queue's outside the shop packed. Over priced, very average ice cream, that they seem to be able to charge a premium for because you can mix flavors and it's a cue little flower shape.

Dominoes, Pappa Johns, Pizza Hut = unless there is a deal on very expensive for what tastes very processed pizza.

OP posts:

Legoland Windsor

Total dump, badly run and the queueing/fast pass system is a total shambles so you end up having to pay ££££ more to get on any rides.

The U.K.?

It’s seen as a dream destination for so many immigrants but I feel sorry for them when they must realise how cold, expensive and unwelcoming it is.

I was a migrant before I became naturalised citizen so are my many friends. We may complain about weather even now and then but we like life in UK. It’s much better than many places. There are very few places on this planet where whether is perfect. If you are a migrant you have you be more practical and realistic than idealistic. Most foreign places are only welcoming to a degree. I have lived in Switzerland which is even more expensive and less welcoming.

TGI Fridays. Awful quality, up there with wetherspoons.

Is it over rated?

I think it's pretty much universally considered one of the worst parts of the country!

Must just be the people around me who rave about it!

Swiftie1878 · Today 15:40

The Eden Project. Preachy, nonsense of a place.

Colin the Caterpillar cakes. It's just a dry Swiss roll covered in sugary chocolate.

Oh ffs this thread is meant to be about places 😅

That twat Colin is still overrated.

Edited

It is so sickly sweet.

And the wasps, so many wasps!

Chester Zoo (don’t like zoos in general but found this one particularly grim on a school visit).
Overpriced - entry fee, food & drinks.
Animals look ‘sad’.
Scruffy public areas.
Signage very confusing.
Not worth the money.

Weeellokthen · Today 15:46

Any Italian restaurant. Pasta and dough, pretty much cost nothing 😂charged at ridiculous prices,

Koala17 · Today 15:47

Anfield - doesn’t live up to the hype attached to the club.

London - lived and worked there for a while. Feel sorry for those who are still there.

Maldives - such a dull place.

Sun loungers - no idea how people can think that spending all day on one around a pool is a desirable activity.

Fine dining restaurants - pretentious nonsense.

Royal Ascot - quite possibly the worst horse racing event in the UK to attend.

elliejjtiny · Today 15:47

Brean splash. So expensive and you only get 90 minutes in there. A day pass at butlins is cheaper, other things to do and you can stay all day.

BoredZelda · Today 15:48

Warwick castle - crazily overpriced

Yes! Went there a couple of years back. Ridiculously expensive and so little to actually do there.

Even if they're low cost ingredients, you have to pay someone to make the food, serve it and clear up. You have a manage the finances, pay rent, gas, electricity, council tax, sundries.

I totally agree - also Highgate waterlow park ally pally highgate woods park walk kings X regents park marylebone highstreet canal walk from little venice to kings x ....
along the river to battersea power station

Yes, Regents Park is lovely, and I do like the puppet barge in Little Venice too! I love Marylebone High Street for shopping, but again, not really on tourist itineraries.

Erm... difficult to know if you like somewhere without going though eh? 🙄

OMG yes! I wonder if they are actually a front for a wasp breeding operation!

Probably because they don’t like London, they never get to experience great restaurants and associated takeaways!

Basically, yes.

Where I live, most restaurants and take aways are incredibly disappointing, especially for the bloody prices they charge - basically fancy Wetherspoons or worse than what I can cook at home.

The exception is fine dining restaurants and authentic international cuisine. Where I live, I am not blessed by an abundance of these kinds of places.

Gail’s bakery. Overpriced massively.

If you are going to Warwick Castle, Kenilworth Castle is just down the road and much better!

Lulworth Cove. Completely underwhelmed me and the parking was a total rip off.

I went about 4 years ago and although expensive I thought it was worth every penny! Fantastic place, lots to do. The dragons were just a little section for the young children based on a Julia Donaldson book. The jousting was a medieval re-enactment with fabulous horses and actors and was telling the true story of the War of the Roses, it was amazing! We did a little tour and that was really interesting and talked about the proper history too.

I honestly thought the place was fab and I was expecting it to be over hyped, I would willingly go back.

Yes I did go myself ! I had that experience.
It was entirely, and I mean entirely, geared up for children and families.
Anyone wanting to learn about the real history of the place came away without.
As a history lover ( and there are many for that period in particular) it was such a huge disappointment. In many ways it is the castle for that period. Not, I suspect that many people leaving will know anything more about it than they went going in. But that is not why they were there. It was a play theme park.
I do not have any issues with catering for children.
But the whole place was for children. All of it.

Agree with that.
And Menorca.
