To use in your Airbnb and on the beach?

Because I feel like it’s dangerous to always have headphones on, especially when you’re alone on the beach in the evening.

You're hardly going to be there at really quiet hours are you. That's just an excuse. Plus if you were then you can stop your music before the beach empties. No one needs music the entire day.

ShetlandishMum · 07/06/2026 18:44

No. I wouldn't.

EvelynBeatrice · 07/06/2026 18:44

Only if it could be the late Betty Boothroyd ….

itssoeasy · 07/06/2026 18:41

Firstly, it’s not shite.

Secondly, it’s really common for my area? You always get groups down at the beach at the weekend listening to music.

Everyone has different tastes in music. You might think it’s not shite but others will.

itssoeasy · 07/06/2026 18:24

I feel like the beach would be fine? It’s an open area, not like a train…

No one wants to hear your music whilst on a beach other than you.

Betty's spirit told me that she enjoyed that gag

also, it's just more stuff to carry around. what happens when you want to go in the sea or pop for food or a walk?

WhatNextImScared · 07/06/2026 18:47

In your air bnb, yes. Not on the beach! Omg!

ErrolTheDragon · 07/06/2026 18:48

itssoeasy · 07/06/2026 18:38

A yob 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Antisocial, for sure. Playing your music on a speaker in a public place is rude and unecessary.

Use headphones, or if you want to be more aware of your surroundings just put one bud in. Or, revolutionary idea, listen to the waves, birds etc. No one needs constant music.

In your airb&b, obviously fine so long as it won’t disturb anyone else.

How can each group hear its own music if there’s another group ten yards away playing competing music?

BIWI · 07/06/2026 18:48

Goady shite @itssoeasy

You really aren't asking if you're being unreasonable, so I have no idea why you have posted in AIBU.

You do you, as they say. And just know that you're being antisocial.

Common being the operative word.

You're clearly on the wind-up.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

MrsOni · 07/06/2026 18:49

Honestly, in a public place I don't mind people playing music.

It's unrealistic to expect perfect silence in a public place. If not music, then people talking, kids playing etc....

HaveYouFedTheFish · 07/06/2026 18:50

Is this a serious question?

It's not only about different tastes in music, though that might make it worse - part of going to the beach when it's not busy (which is what you're talking about doing as you say you won't set up too close to anyone) is being able to hear the waves and nature sounds.

Unless you can set up out of earshot of others, you're ruining the beach experience for people who want to hear the sound of the waves. If you need to hear your music at the beach for some reason but not block out your surroundings, then put one earbud in.

You might not think it's shite but the people around you might. I hate most music so would definitely be pissed off if you ruined my enjoyment of the beach for your own selfish ends. You can easily use headphones and it's fucking selfish not to.

babasaclover · 07/06/2026 18:51

@itssoeasyplease not for the beach no one wants to hear it no matter how great YOU think your choice of music is. Beach should be peaceful.

do you really need one even for air B&B? Surely your phone on loud speaker is enough

HaveYouFedTheFish · 07/06/2026 18:52

EnoughRain · 07/06/2026 18:49

It must be a wind up because otherwise she'd listen to the answers. This was phrased as a naive, artless if socially awkward question, but the OP has decided to double down on the reason she's going to do the opposite of the answers she's received.

Because I feel like it’s dangerous to always have headphones on, especially when you’re alone on the beach in the evening.

so you're planning on sitting on the beach alone in the dark listening to music every night? I'd genuinely be worried about my friends state of mind if this was their plan for their solo holiday

Who said silence? Playing music out loud on a beach or a in park is obnoxious. Only stupid people do it.

culty · 07/06/2026 18:53

Actually I think the beach depends - if it's typically pretty isolated I don't see a problem with it

Where did I say that? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have a plan for one night - to sit at the beach, eating a pizza with a cocktail at sunset. Hardly sitting in the dark on the beach every night

I’m putting my side across, I am allowed to do that?

OP: AIBU?
Everyone: yes
OP: no I'm not.

What's the point in asking? Just do what you want and don't ask.

I do hope everyone saying no doesn’t take their children to the beach, for them to be screaming and crying all over the place!
