Iusedtobelieveinunicorns · 06/06/2026 17:31

Starting the injection on the 15th of this month, due to go away the first week of September
I’m going with an endocrinologist monitoring it and following progress etc

It’s quite obvious. A BMI of 48 would be getting craned out of your house levels of obesity

Judgemental, much?
I had a BMI of over 48 when I started and I can assure you that although I was large, I was not at a "getting craned out of your house level".
Maybe reflect on your wording before hitting post. If you haven't been that heavy, I am glad for you, but some of us are / have been, and we don't deserve cruel imagery to describe our situation.

Great, thanks for that. I don’t know my exact weight and had always been told 28/29
I am very ashamed of my weight and the way I look so don’t look and focus on the numbers when weighed, I just want to get rid of it
but great to be told i’m even bigger than I thought I was

Started in late February at 18 stone. Lost a stone in under a fortnight but a battle there after. It dealt with lymphoedema swelling for all of 24 hours and that was it. As good as a day in compression.

was meant to sky dive next month for a cause but didn’t get my weight below
15 stone to go up as life just got in the way and you obsess 24/7 with no eating.

I’ve been active every day since and today weigh 18 stone again. Saw my sibling get into trouble with gallstones / pancreatitis, they were distraught as their mj journey ended then and there. To me I wonder if these glp1’s are up there with crash dieting.

SilenceInside · 07/06/2026 01:09

You’re no bigger than you were a few minutes ago before you knew what your BMI was. It’s just your weight (in kg) divided by your height (in metres) squared. I don’t know how anyone could have told you your BMI if they didn’t know how much you actually weighed.

Anyway, is it Wegovy or Mounjaro that you’re starting? There are lots of threads in the Weight Loss Injections/Treatments section about both, and monthly starters threads. There’s already some for June.

As an aside, my BMI was 50 before I started my weight loss process, in July 2024. I did not need to be carried out of my house 🙄. I did the school run everyday, worked, took the kids out on activities, days out with family, housework, everything necessary to care for my children and be a functioning adult. It was just all very hard work and exhausting.

Pistachiocake · 07/06/2026 01:14

If you're paying to see, them ring and ask them what they think, as they probably know best. From what you read, it varies, eg Prue Leith apparently didn't really lose weight desite hardly eating on the jabs.

Christ are people thick , lazy or just can’t read. Her op is clear - her age and bmi , the amount of posters who have asked daft questions or got it assways is unreal.

Because she was asked bmi and age but gave age and bmi, no words with it, just two numbers in the wrong order. Either of the numbers given could have been age or bmi, and it was logical for people to assume the answers would be given in the right order.

You aren’t bigger than you thought, the numbers are just a representation…you don’t want to lose weight, you want to look better. So you know your starting point looks wise, and you want to be smaller, whether your bmi is 31 or 28 isn’t important, what is important is that you diet now, and see the results in the way you look.

You could diet and never look at the scales if you wanted, because you’d see the difference in you, so don’t let a number being higher than you expected make you feel worse, it doesn’t change who you were or how you looked when you wrote your first post

Nellodee · 07/06/2026 06:00

I had a similar starting weight and age and lost just under two stone in that amount of time.

TerfOnATrain · 07/06/2026 06:26

I am 5ft 4” was age 58

My starting weight was 13st 4lbs

it took me six months on MJ to lose four stone

Umm , are you on a different thread or something 🤔

😅😂

Nope - she's on the right thread.

I quote

At 29 you have age on your side. What you don't have on your side is less weight to lose is harder to lose then if you where 20 stone

She's 48 not 29

MyLimeGuide · 07/06/2026 07:05

Yes.

MissMogwai · 07/06/2026 07:09

I’ve been on Wegovy for a month (0.25) and I’ve lost 12lb so far. Just starting 0.5 today.
Reading this thread tells me we’re all different so it’s not set in stone how much you’ll lose.
I’ve been to the gym 2/3 times a week and upped the steps. For me the snacking has completely stopped which was my biggest problem. My meals were/are generally good but now I’m eating much less.
good luck with it! ☺️

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 07/06/2026 07:14

I started losing 3 months ago and I’ve lost 2 stone. Similar age, slightly higher bmi (I’m short as well).. I’m not ‘oh my days you’re tiny’ thin; but I’m a lot closer to bmi 25 (I was 30, now 26) and need new work trousers as although I was enjoying the baggyness they are starting to look ridiculous now.
Does that help?

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 07/06/2026 07:15

Sorry, 4 months not 3

Or the other way around. If you know your bmi is 29 then you weigh less than you originally thought. You are about 12 stone right now,

You have lost a stone just by posting on mumsnet.

Have you had disordered eaten in the past - the avoidance of numbers and absolute disgust at yourself are possible pointers. Your body is not disgusting! Might have a bit more fat than ideal and it has aged but it is not disgusting!

Sartre · 07/06/2026 08:21

Never used them but years ago I lost 44kg in a year. First 4 months I did the 5:2 diet and dropped 25kg then the rest came off a bit slower but I got there. Exercise is vital, especially when using the jabs otherwise you’ll lose muscle and bone density and just look a bit skeletal and grim.

Ethelspagetti · 07/06/2026 08:23

You’ll be slimmer and probably lose 2 stone. I think by Christmas you’ll probably lose most of the excess fat.

You are asking what is a reasonable target for three months time, getting snippy with someone helping you working out your starting point isn’t going to help you and is uncalled for.

I’ll leave you to it,

Givemeausernamepls · 07/06/2026 08:59

Iusedtobelieveinunicorns · 06/06/2026 18:06

All that yes

Then go for it… you might not be as slim as you’d like but you’ll be moving in the right direction and building sustainable habits.

No disordered eating, just always been hard to stay slim, had a great figure, but had to work extremely hard for it. After numerous fertility treatments then having my Dd, I stopped working out and now am like this and look awful. Some people look nice with weight on, I’m definitely not one of those people sadly
