To think Nigel Farage should be locked up?

He was inciting violence with his “address to the nation” speech, calling for rage.

Meanwhile, he doesn’t care when women are actually murdered by the police

Surely enough is enough and they need to take action?

Nigel Farage MP (@Nigel_Farage) on X

We must not allow the tragic murder of a young woman turn into attacks on men and attacks on the police.

People are outraged. See the picture. On the M8 in Glasgow hundreds of miles away. Just bigots, I suppose...

I wish they would spell his name correctly

Agree. I never get this argument. People who claim that it pushes people to vote Reform were always going to do so anyway regardless of whether they’re called stupid or any number of names. And, ironically, if they vote for a party purely based on the fact that they have been called stupid and not because they agree with their policies, then they are, in fact, stupid 😂

It’s like an abuser throwing a punch and then screaming, ‘Look what you made me do!’ They don’t like taking accountability for anything. It figures really when they follow someone like Farage.

That doesn't surprise me.
You aren't getting it and it's clear from your post. 🤷‍♀️

I think I do understand the references to 2016 and the name calling. We don't want to facilitate the pushing of people into polarising positions. Name calling can reinforce that.

sittingonabeach · Yesterday 16:07

@1dayatatime so you don't agree with the detailed reports/reviews that have said there is institutionalised racism in the Police? And the rates you show above with 35% Black and 34% White, do you think that correlates with the whole population split of ethnicities in this country?

Pippin2017 · Yesterday 16:13

BlakeCarrington · Yesterday 14:53

This is spot on, it is exactly the same approach and it seems many have not learnt the lesson of 2016.

And their favourite accusation is that others are thick - the irony

Considering the damage done to the UK by Brexit, and the complete lack of understanding of the consequences by many who voted to leave the EU, I'm not sure this is the hot take you imagine.

So, enlighten me then. Someone endorses Reform and people don’t agree and call them stupid/a flag shagger/ a gammon/ insert any other insult. They then claim that will push them to vote for them, but if they weren’t endorsing them in the first place, they wouldn’t be called those names. They were clearly always a supporter regardless, were they not? Make it make sense, please?

Who people vote for lies squarely with them. It’s nobody else’s ’fault’ or responsibility. Own your choices.

Its like the incel argument isn't it? "I'm an insane rapey creep because women don't want to date insane rapey creeps like me"

Precisely, and those are exactly the same types who support Reform. It’s always someone else’s fault. I always think of it like a toddler, ‘Mummy, that mean person called me Stewpid!! I’ll show them!!’ It’s pathetic.

What damage? By far the biggest damage came from FOM and mass immigration.

FOM was an opportunity, not damage.

A far bigger jobs market for British people to access.

Funny then that we were swamped by people from EE and Spain and most young Brits went to U.S/Canada/Australia? If you are after a bar job, well yes it is not probably so viable now, if you have top banking or IT skills the company will have you in Frankfurt or wherever ASAP if you are genuinely needed, and of course you would need the language skills that most Brits don"t have, for most Brits the EU was always just a place to sit in the sun and drink alcohol, the idea that we have lost a great opportunity is for the most part just nonsense.

I loathe Farage, but either we have freedom of speech or we don’t. If we cancel that right, then it will affect a lot of protest groups.

Be careful what you wish for.

But why call people those names?
Is it because you don't like someone having a different opinion/voting a different way?
To shut down their opinion?

Yes of course, it's called a democracy.

I'd currently probably call myself politically homeless, we have a disappointingly weak PM and Labour have been a huge disappointment so next GE I might vote Conservative, I might vote Reform, who knows. What is certain is that I will absolutely own my voting choices and also respect the vote of others without the need to throw childish names around.

What is also clear from this thread is Farage is much disliked, clearly seen as a threat and some posters would rather like to see him locked up. Fortunately, we have freedom of speech in this country.

Having friction-free access to a market of over 200 million people, as well as job opportunities for Brits bright enough and sufficiently motivated to learn a foreign language and have the curiosity to experience other cultures was a very good thing, and it was available to everyone.

Now as you say, it’s only available to elites with banking or top IT skills.

Yes, we have freedom of speech. But we don’t have consequence free freedom of speech. Or the freedom to shout “FIRE!” In a crowded theatre. Which is kind of what Farage did.

I think, to a certain extent, it did seem as if a lot of people came very quickly. The FOM could, and maybe should, have been phased in. Another of Blair's decisions.

My point appears to have gone completely over your head. The point I was making is If you’re on Mumsnet or elsewhere actively endorsing Reform, then whether or not someone insults you isn’t going to make a blind bit of difference to your support, you supported them anyway.

If however, someone wasn’t going to vote Reform but decide to based on the fact they were called stupid for saying something remotely positive about Farage or whatever, then I’m afraid to say, they are exactly that - stupid. Politics should be about policies, not poor emotional regulation.

Of course Farage is seen as a threat. He’s a fucking fascist, grifting, hate mongering arsewipe of a man, and he’s a serious, serious threat to the very fabric of society. Unfortunately, a significant number of people can’t or won’t see that and will sleep walk into it. It’s frightening.

Nigel deserves all the hate that comes his way. He levels enough of it at others. He and those who surround him are a cancer on society. Ditto Rupert Lowe.

Wow, you really haven't done yourself any favours with this paragraph.

If you think Farage is all of that then you better hope that Labour deal with this two tier policing effectively (the eyes of the world are watching), install a strong leader and generally get their house in order. Otherwise at the next GE result will be the colour blue (shade to be confirmed).

She is giving her opinion, she isn’t asking anyone else to say bad things about him or calling for people to rise at dawn and attack him.

I think Farage, Trump, Tommy Robinson, Netanyahu and Zak Polanski are cunts. Thats my opinion I’m not trying to make everyone else think the same
