Would you tell a woman her gym leggings were see through?

Regular gym class. Behind a woman today who was wearing black leggings, looked fine when she was standing but as soon as she bent over they were completely see through, almost like a pair of 30 denier tights. Could see colour and shape of underwear. Would you have told her at end of class?

I was planning on doing but she was chatting to another class member at the end and stayed on for the next class so couldn't grab her outside. Feel bad now but also wasnt sure how she would react??

I’m not sure I follow. You say very few women know that the leggings can’t be trusted. So if that’s the case I don’t think it follows that every woman who cares will have thoroughly checked. I’ll be honest, I’ve never checked any of my gym leggings to see what happens when I bend over.

I may have to now though! They are pretty good quality though so I’m hoping they’re ok!

She said few women DON'T know.

To all of those who say you want to be told do you not look in mirrors to see how you look?

Not at my bum while squatting/bending, no.

TooOrangey · 30/05/2026 12:58

No. She might know, she might not care. I’d be really cross if you said that to me. What does it matter if they’re see through? All you’d be doing is trying to embarrass her.

Interesting interpretation

Very interesting range of opinions. I guess my mind set was, if it was me I would rather know then I wouldnt wear those leggings again. However I can see the vast majority of people wouldn't tell her / wouldnt want to be told so I don't feel as bad now.

Just to clarify I wasnt judging, staring, or wanting to embarrass her 😀

I wouldn’t because I’d assume they already know. I also go by the 30 second (or 5 mins) rule of if they can’t change it in that amount of time then telling them will just make them feel bad.

SwatTheTwit · 30/05/2026 13:19

Unless they ask, no. I’m pretty sure a lot of people don’t care.

FlippersUp · 30/05/2026 13:24

Not exactly the same, I was once next to a woman in a pilates class who had a long hole in the crotch of her leggings, the sort of hole that's not visible until the leggings are worn. Doing the side series was very interesting. After the class, I asked one of her friends to tell her, because if it was me, I would like to be told.

I'm sure the person OP's talking about knew her leggings were very thin, so I wouldn't mention it.

Iceandfire92 · 30/05/2026 13:26

Only let someone know about something like this discreetly if it is something they can change, otherwise it could be conveyed as an attempt to shame them.

Having said that, I don't understand why people wear anything but a thong under leggings, anything but a thong always results in a massive VPL which looks incredibly unsightly.

giemepeace · 30/05/2026 13:43

I also wouldn’t say anything. I see people wearing see through clothes all the time and can’t know whether they are ok with that or not.

Okay fair enough. Some people do just to even look at their form when exercising for example, in a mirror at home or the gym. Or they do not care as it is the gym. People might be in small bathing suits, various crop tops etc.

I still would not approach a stranger on this regardless but I see some people would and would welcome it on return and accept we all are different!

FKAT · 30/05/2026 13:54

Does it matter? It's a gym class, not a royal coronation. Most people are barely wearing anything - sports bras, hot pants etc. IME most gyms are full of mirrors so people can see what they look like perfectly well.

Interesting interpretation

People be a tiring mixture of defiant/paranoid these days. Exhausting, isn’t it.

OchreReader · 30/05/2026 13:56

I remember many years ago I had dressed for work hurriedly, and it was only when I arrived I realised my pink bra was visible in its entirety beneath my white t-shirt. I was mortified, but when I mentioned it to a colleague she seemed surprised and said she’d assumed I was accessorising!
since then I check my clothing from all angles before leaving. If I was her friend I would tell her, but otherwise I would leave it.

Simplebutnotoverlybothered · 30/05/2026 13:57

Depends. At the school run the other day a women had white trousers on and no underwear. You could literally see her bum hole when she bent down and tell she's all natural at the front. I hope her friends mentioned it to her.

I’m like you, I would want to know. But I agree with everyone else that it’s a hard thing to say to a stranger just because you don’t know how they’ll take it.

I’m off to test all my leggings out in front of a mirror though.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 30/05/2026 14:01

I did tell a stranger at a crossing that her cardigan was on inside out but I guess that is different. She was very happy I’d told her.

CrushingOnRubies · 30/05/2026 14:10

No! She’s in a gym class, there’s nothing she could easily do to immediately rectify the situation.

Just to check i am understanding you- Its not kind to tell her?

Yes. It would be mortifying. She’d be upset, not grateful.

what does it matter really? If she asked, say, a friend, that’s entirely different.

That’s a mad thing to be mortified about! I often wear coloured bras underneath light coloured tops, deliberately, including for work. I like the look.

This is your projection, that you are stating baldly as if it were a fact.

In truth, we have no idea if she’d have been grateful, defiant, paranoid, have an anxiety attack, laugh.. we don’t know the woman.

if it were me, I’d be very grateful to be told and I wouldn’t wear said leggings to yoga again.

EmeraldRoulette · 30/05/2026 14:33

I see so much of this I can only assume that people know and that it's a trend.

I overheard two lads at the bus stop discussing it -with one saying that he's fine if his girlfriend dresses like that and the other saying absolutely not. It must be a choice.

so no, I wouldn't say anything.

Exactly. I was at the gym this morning and was next to a 20 something woman wearing pale pink scrunch bum shorts and a matching teeny bikini type top. She looked great, albeit naked. Who cares?
