Would you tell a woman her gym leggings were see through?

Regular gym class. Behind a woman today who was wearing black leggings, looked fine when she was standing but as soon as she bent over they were completely see through, almost like a pair of 30 denier tights. Could see colour and shape of underwear. Would you have told her at end of class?

I was planning on doing but she was chatting to another class member at the end and stayed on for the next class so couldn't grab her outside. Feel bad now but also wasnt sure how she would react??

Very few women don't know that leggings can't be trusted. Women who care that someone might see their pants through them in the gym will generally have checked. So I think its reasonable to assume that if she hasn't its probably not a priority for her.

She knows they are see through!

No. Just don't look if it bothers you.

This is the kind of sullen response you might get. One can’t assume people are successfully socialised, just because they move among us. So much Wayne and Waynetta hiding in plain ( semi transparent when stretched) sight.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 30/05/2026 12:50

This is the kind of situation where I would absolutely want to be told about this! But I probably wouldn’t have the nerve to tell someone else. They’re black, so she probably isn’t aiming for a see through look, and it’s just her bum when bending so she probably isn’t aware. But still, I’d feel too always raising it with her.

icybreeze · 30/05/2026 12:51

No but mainly because these days it seems to be the fashion to have everything on display so I would assume it was a conscious choice

I’m not sure I follow. You say very few women know that the leggings can’t be trusted. So if that’s the case I don’t think it follows that every woman who cares will have thoroughly checked. I’ll be honest, I’ve never checked any of my gym leggings to see what happens when I bend over.

I may have to now though! They are pretty good quality though so I’m hoping they’re ok!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 30/05/2026 12:52

No, she is old enough to check herself.
A lot of women wear see through leggings, you can see every lump or bump along with their underwear. I buy thick leggings to avoid this, other people don’t mind wearing see through pants. 🤷‍♀️

Lomonald · 30/05/2026 12:52

She probably knew and wasn't that bothered, i wouldn't say anything to a stranger no.

FeelingALittleWoozyHere · 30/05/2026 12:21

She was between me and the instructor so directly in my eyeline. Once I had spotted it the first time I didnt look again. Doesnt 'bother' me and I wasnt suggesting I tell her for my comfort.

Okay I assumed it bothered you but stand corrected.

People can wear what they like and agree with posters who say telling her is not kind, it's a little judgy.

If I was her I would really appreciate someone pulling me aside to give me a heads up.

This.

I am forever grateful to the stranger ( a man) ) who told me I was walking down the street with my skirt stuck in my knickers.

If you would want someone to tell you, then tell her.

This is not sullen it is just let people be. It's at the gym not a formal setting.

BiteSizedLife · 30/05/2026 12:56

it depends on the person. And it is hard to tell from your description alone

I would HATE for my underwear to be showing, even an outline or a bra strap. It is why I have a whole drawer of very boring, flesh coloured bras, knickers, slips, body suits etc So i would really appreciate the heads up, but these days many women seem to actively want this look.

That is different and obviously a mistake.
I stopped a school girl once, her skirt was caught under her bag, my niece is a personal trainer, she wears see through leggings, tiny shorts too, she wear’s barely there bikinis on holidays, it’s a fashion statement. 🫣 she’s always been a bit of an exhibitionist.

TooOrangey · 30/05/2026 12:58

No. She might know, she might not care. I’d be really cross if you said that to me. What does it matter if they’re see through? All you’d be doing is trying to embarrass her.

bananaapplepears · 30/05/2026 12:59

I'm not sure I'd say something but I'd definitely want to know if it was me. I don't wear underwear at the gym though and wear thick proper powerlifting gym shorts so little chance of this happening to me.

Lomonald · 30/05/2026 12:52

Of course she did not know! The material has faded over time. She won’t know unless she bends over in front of a mirror and then looks behind see what her arse looks like. Which she won’t have done.

I so this now only because I saw someone with the same faded leggings bottom and could see her pants in full detail and realised they can become transparent. I had no idea till then.

Why on earth do people think she knows this?!?

Why on earth are people mad enough to think OP is judgy?!

FeelingALittleWoozyHere · 30/05/2026 12:19

Just to check i am understanding you- Its not kind to tell her?

I don't think it's kind either. As a general rule, I only think it's kind to tell a stranger that there is something wrong with their outfit if they can fix it instantly (knickers tucked into skirt, clothes tag hanging out, buttons misaligned). It isn't kind if they are stuck how they are until they get home.

Lahsania · 30/05/2026 12:56

Okay- we will have to agree to disagree, but that was not the spirit of the response.

EltonJohnsSunglasses · 30/05/2026 13:00

30-second rule: if someone can fix something in about 30 seconds it's helpful to tell them, if not you are just making them aware of something they can't change and all you will achieve is making them feel self conscious.

I thought it was common knowledge that leggings are tricksy little blighters that appear to be full coverage from the front, but at the slightest bulge of bum and bend of waist are liable to turn themselves transparent. And that the people who write reviews saying they're squat proof are snickering nastily while telling us big fat lies.
The experienced leggings wearer typically knows this and will do her own due dillingence. Unless she's not that bothered.

ponyprincess · 30/05/2026 13:01

To all of those who say you want to be told do you not look in mirrors to see how you look?

Oh you know what, I misread your first sentence. I read it as “very few women know” rather than “very few women don’t know”.
