To ask for suncream recommendations because I am sick to death of covering every inch of my body?

I am 99% sure my mother has lied to me about my father and she actually procreated with Casper the friendly Ghost.

I am so pale that I am translucent in places. I turn pink within seconds in the sun. Yesterday I was out for probably a grand total of an hour in a vest and im still pink. I used SPF50.

Ironically I love the sun and I am a heat seeker. I cannot stand wearing long trousers and tops all day, especially when I’m active in the sun. Ideally it’ll be a mist that I can spray over my shoulders while out and about to keep coverage up, but I think at this point I need an industrial strength one. Any recommendations?!

I agree re p20 - used it for years but do they do a spray 50? I’ve only ever used normal 30 in p20 and that’s been amazing. Used soltan 50 once a day in Australia and tbf did the job but no better than p20 30! I’m not a fan of sprays as you waste so much so never looked for a p20 spray! It’s why I bought soltan on a buy 3 for price of 2 deal

Yes they do a factor 50 and it comes in a pump action spray. Makes it a bit easier to apply than the normal liquid bottle

I lived in a country 35+ degrees. Noone wanders round in backless strappy tops in the heat of the sun. If you are as pale as you say you are and burn so easily its just absolute madness. You can get cool tops and short dresses that cover your back and shoulders.

P20 is the best sunscreen. You can get factor 50 l, its sweat and waterproof and you dont need to reapply through the day.

Maybe not but I am sick to death of sweating myself silly hiding my body.

Im very pale and really want to catch a tan so i'm using Coco and Eve tan Boosting oil. Its factor 50 and its definitrly helped give me a little bit of colour after yesterday's sit in the garden! It enhances the melanin in your skin. Definitely worth a try. I didn't burn with it either :)

@itstoohottofunction As someone who really doesn’t like the heat, I don’t understand why you keep saying that covering up will make you too hot.

Exposing your skin to the sun will make you hotter, not cooler.

Loose fitting clothing in quick drying, sweat wicking fabrics (not cotton in any kind of humidity) is the best way to stay cool.

In my early 20s I visited Taiwan in August. It was incredibly hot and humid. It became very obvious on day 1 that the strappy little stuff that I’d packed was less than useless in that sort of heat and I needed to buy some flowy, long sleeved shirts, long skirts and a UV umbrella. Ever since then, I cover up and stay in the shade in hot weather. It’s far more effective for staying cool.

Hot long sleeved tops and ankle length skirts/trousers will absolutely be hotter than minimal clothing with a breeze

Can you do cream as a thorough base layer and mainly use the spray as a top up?
I can understand the trouble with covering up to some extent - hats are my issue as they make my head so hot, never fit or stay on and I end up taking them off.
We use a Superdrug spray for dd, factor 50. It seems to be effective but you do need to put lots on so it gets expensive, and it can leave some stains. She won’t put on lotions or creams due to sensory issues.

I do plan on using creams in the morning

We aren’t talking about covering up with a neck to wrist to ankle Hair suit. But a loose shirt that covers your back and tops of your arms is going to be much cooler across the course of a day then some spaghetti Strap singlet or dress because direct heat pounding on your skin with no diffusion is hotter and damaging. Not to mention how awful the skin looks when it’s had too much sun exposure past a certain age

even if you wore a dress or a top that was sleeveless but covered your back up to your neck so no big scooping neck lines at the back you would be better off than completely exposed to the Sun

having a loose covering over your back over the top of skin that’s already had suncream applied at home is going to be much more effective long-term SPF than trying to spray something which is just not gonna give you the protection you think it’s going to and it’s gonna get all over your clothes anyway you can’t spray without it getting on whatever top or dress you’re wearing

Maybe not but I am sick to death of sweating myself silly hiding my body.

But you’ll be sweating yourself silly not covering yourself. You seem more concerned about exposing your body because you want to look a certain way, but it doesn’t even look good. Sun damaged skin doesn’t look good

I have images in my mind of English people of a certain age, lobster red peeling freckled, hyper and hypo pigmented skin looking like salami completely unprotected looking terrible next to people who actually live in hot climate and know how to dress

haven’t you noticed that people who live in southern Europe, Asia, Africa the Middle East cover up? The only people that expose their back shoulders and chest to the sun in the middle of this sort of heat seem to be A certain type of English person. Are you English?

If you don’t want to be hot and sweaty, do what the people who live in hot climate do they know what they’re doing?

Jesus are you okay? It’s hotter to wear long trousers and a long sleeved top than it is to wear shorts and a vest!

Another vote for Altruist. We all use it. I sent my teen DSs on their lads holidays with it and all fine. My husband is undergoing chemo type treatment that makes him extremely sun sensitive and it’s been great. Good company too.

I’ll check it out, it looks really reasonably priced too and really randomly I saw a TikTok from a dermatologist recommending it!

Noone has suggested you wear long trousers and long sleeved tops though. The truth is that there aren't any factor 50 sprays that will stop you burning if you have very pale skin that is exposed to the sun all day. At the very least you should have back and shoulders covered. This doesn't mean you have to be covered head to toe. Have you been to a hot country before?

We only use the spray but it has not stained so far. Sun creams for our various family needs are a bit holy grail but this one’s been great!

The Altruist. Created by dermatologists, not nasty. They have a spray 50 SPF which is really good.

I use this one and also their face sunscreen. I've had skin cancer and have used Altruist for several years.

They do a clear spray that was sold out when I tried to order it.

Not true. When skin is exposed it gets hot. When it's covered it stays cooler. You don't need heavy trousers and long sleeve Tshirts. A midi/maxi dress with a cheesecloth type bolero to cover up, buy a larger size than normal. Light shirt over vest top and wafty loose muslin like summer trousers. Cool or what!

When abroad in hot countries I never see the locals in strappy tops, shorts, mini dresses, sun dresses etc. unless at the beach, and even then it's rash vests, and all sorts of sun dodging tents and brollies.

If you are determined to prove us all wrong, go ahead and use whatever sun cream fits your bill, wallow in the sticky sweaty mess of that, and enjoy!

Have you tried clothing like Craghoppers solar shield? They are amazing. Cooling to wear and protect from insects too.

It’s not if you choose the right fabrics. Skin heats up in direct sunlight.

People who live in hot climates with strong UV light don’t get about in the sun with their shoulders or back exposed. People wear shirts and hats. There’s a famous Australian slogan - slip slop slap - slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen & slap on a hat. The first defence against the sun is always covering up.

It isn’t as fabric wicks sweat away from your skin increasing cooling, especially in humid weather.

SwedishEdith · Today 19:19

As you're so pale and burn easily, I don't understand why you're so determined to expose your back to the burning sun.
