DH commenting on my daily jam

Hanjusy · 25/05/2026 22:20

I have two slices of toast with jam on every day..DH has commented that I’ll be knackering my teeth if I keep this up in the long term.

Mumsnetters, am I the only one to do this!?

Edited to add my DH is a good man and only looking out for me; before anyone suggests I line my quackers up!

Give us this day our daily jam.

... and forgive us our marmalades, as we forgive those who marmalade against us...

Buy the sugar free ones and then he's not got anything to pick at.

Forever and ever, Alpen.

I was thoroughly enjoying The Breakfast Prayer anyway, and this last line sealed the deal for me. Very well done @somethingischasingme

I thought the OP was in a band. Her diet must be exceptionally clean if her DH thinks a smear of daily jam is going to knacker her teeth.

PriscillaQueenoftheKitchen · Yesterday 10:06

I wouldn't eat jam every day. They are totally empty calories at 100 per teaspoon.

But I don't think your teeth are at risk if you brush them after eating it.

Yes, you're right you're supposed to leave it half an hour before and half an hour after you've eaten before you consider re-brushing your teeth so not to damage your teeth.

Do people usually brush their teeth after eating though? I just brush mine morning and night, and spend the rest of the day eating biscuits at my leisure.

I brush before eating. And at night. Amd often about lunchtime too.

I'm hoping for a medal tbh. I'm a bit light on plaudits and laudits generally speaking.

And now I want jam. Apricot, in a coronation chickpea concoction.

I had a relative with MH issues and during one episode he thought he'd found a cure for cancer - jam. It was only effective if eaten off a spoon, it didn't work if you put it on toast.

FYI: You should wait for 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth, otherwise this interferes with the neutralisation process and can wear away enamel.

The Breakfast Prayer

Our husband, who art in Judgement
Hallowed be my jam
My Tiptree come, my will be done
At breakfast, as it is like heaven
Give us this day our daily jam
And forgive us our croissants
As we forgive those who breakfast against us
Lead us not into marmite
And deliver us from Stevia
For thine is the Kingsmill, the muesli and granola
Forever and ever, Alpen.

Is lemon curd counted as jam? I have that most days.

Used to love that as a kid. When we went shopping with dad we were allowed to choose one treat/snack item. Mine was always a jar of lemon curd. Not had it in years

justasking111 · Yesterday 12:59

Is it just me or have others noticed that homemade jam doesn't go mouldy?

itsgettingweird · Yesterday 15:37

I’ve just got back from sainburys. While there I called DS and asked if he wanted some bread to make toast and if so what did he want in it.

He said Jam.

People in Sainburys were looking at me weirdly as I meandered goggling to myself 🤣

Google says 16-19 calories for a teaspoon of jam?
