Effing noisy neighbours

I don't actually care if I am being unreasonable. Long story short, neighbours moved in at the backend of 2023. Then spent 4 months to extend the back of their house to include one of the current ubiquitous grey internal kitchen/ living spaces (yawn). Problem is that the space they created is so cavernous that we can hear everything when the concertina doors are fully open. I've been party to some interesting convos, I can tell you.

DH has now installed a 'sound system' outside on our patio. Mostly to drown out the inane chatter and kids' screaming etc. Good for us as we get to play a lot of great stuff going back (e.g today I played Mogwai, Daft Punk, Blondie and so on). But in the back of my mind I can't get the Terrifier movies out of my head 😹 I am sure there are quite a few of us around with a dark humour streak.

Why don’t you report them for benefit fraud? And steal their dog and take it to a shelter.

I have reported them-twice
Nobody seems to be bothered

If I can catch the yappy little sod,I will
It sees us and runs-its fast

Was that a response to me?

In answer to why I chose to live here; it was a very cheap house, and my last chance really, considering my age, to get a foot on the property ladder. Plus, even though I visited the house quite a few times at different times of the day to check out the neighbourhood, it was always quiet because we bought in winter.

Then my partner and I split up and it was either buy him out or sell, and buying him out made more sense at the time.

Trust me, I'd love to win the lottery and buy somewhere far away from anyone else, but it isn't happening.

Most noise isn't a problem, but nightclub volume drum and bass for hours during the day isn't fun or a normal level of suburban nouse.

No it wasn't, I was talking about OP.

oh - you’re the problem

My next door neighbours are on their third day in the row of "having people round"... Fortunately, it's just too hot out there for me, even in the shade, so I'm sheltering inside. But even when I go out at 8:30/9pm to water my plants, they're still out there yakking and messing about with their two young kids.

The "joy" of neighbours I suppose!

Thank heavens someone is talking about the OP! So much derailing going on, I thought perhaps they'd name changed!

Lifestooshort71 · 26/05/2026 13:39

OP, you say you 'back on to them' - do you mean they're at the end of your garden then? Hopefully, once the weather breaks, they won't be as loud. I'd be tempted to go round and tell them how far their convos carry - have they thought of some soft furnishings in their cavernous extension? They might be mortified??!

Urgh I feel your pain OP. Don’t tell me they have a financed Range Rover on the drive too?!

Ugh. How snobby. How would you/OP/ anyone know if their vehicle was financed?
