Effing noisy neighbours

I don't actually care if I am being unreasonable. Long story short, neighbours moved in at the backend of 2023. Then spent 4 months to extend the back of their house to include one of the current ubiquitous grey internal kitchen/ living spaces (yawn). Problem is that the space they created is so cavernous that we can hear everything when the concertina doors are fully open. I've been party to some interesting convos, I can tell you.

DH has now installed a 'sound system' outside on our patio. Mostly to drown out the inane chatter and kids' screaming etc. Good for us as we get to play a lot of great stuff going back (e.g today I played Mogwai, Daft Punk, Blondie and so on). But in the back of my mind I can't get the Terrifier movies out of my head 😹 I am sure there are quite a few of us around with a dark humour streak.

You sound like a nightmare neighbour.

Also not sure what their colour choices has to do with you.

Yep.

Evaka · 25/05/2026 17:05

Have you been on the sauce OP?

Hilarious. Once someone complains about their irritating neighbours they are deemed to be 'on the sauce' . Whatever that means. A term that is totally demeaning to women as a whole.

Eh? I'm asking if you're pissed. You sound pissed.

GallusQuine · 25/05/2026 17:17

Pure gaslighting. Now be gone.

Maybe the heat is getting to you a little. They were just explaining a perfectly normal saying you hadn't understood and assumed was sexist. It isnt.

But then gaslighting doesn't mean what you think it does either.

So you don't even know what it means but you've decided it's a 'term that is totally demeaning to women as a whole'?

I'd definitely mix a little water with it if I were you 😉

GallusQuine · 25/05/2026 18:14

Read the first part. I'm beginning to think you are a troll/bot.

So you’re annoyed by…the normal sounds of a family. You can swap and have my neighbour who screams constantly while playing online games for about 12 hours a day.

Besafeeatcake · 25/05/2026 18:18

OP the noise is one thing but the colour of their extension and kitchen has absolutely nothing to do with the noise so you just sounds catty.

And you aggressiveness to anyone who disagrees sorta begs the question - why did you come onto Mumsnet?

RonnieForteWhiskyTalkinNSOUL · 25/05/2026 18:20

GallusQuine · 25/05/2026 16:54

I don't really care. They don't play music much, but they sure talk a lot about nothing.

Going by your user name I take it you're in Aberdeen or shire.

Glad you're not my neighbour.

frozendaisy · 25/05/2026 18:24

You don’t care if your music annoys them

They don’t care if their talking annoys you

So you are both the same as each other

Sauce just means drunk. It's not specific to women.

And why are you so bothered about the interior colour of your neighbours house?

The noise I understand. But your retaliation will irritate all of the surrounding houses in addition to your direct neighbours.

You sound like a nightmare. Thank god I don't have neighbours like you.

YABU. Definitely.

GallusQuine · 25/05/2026 18:25

As I said - don't really care. But would you be happy with relentles, very audible conversations from your neighbours coming into your garden about all aspects of their personal lives?

No, I wouldn't.

But I'd be a LOT more bothered by arseholes playing loud music to reverberate around the whole neighbourhood.

RonnieForteWhiskyTalkinNSOUL · 25/05/2026 18:28

MINK.

GallusQuine · 25/05/2026 18:29

As I've said before (check it out), the other neighbours aren't bothered. Also check the quotation marks around sound system.

GallusQuine · 25/05/2026 18:31

Check out my last sentence. May be you are 'on the sauce'?

OldCrohn · 25/05/2026 18:32

You're literally just complaining about people talking. That's normal noise. You're being a real arse and it's not justified.

RonnieForteWhiskyTalkinNSOUL · 25/05/2026 18:33

And maybe you're an idiot🙋ta ta.

Wouldn’t bother me. You sound jealous of their extension. You’ve invested a lot of time nosing in and earwigging. Tell you what, you swap with me. We have “CUNT” shouted in the street. “You’re a fucking piece of shit” oh and “you’ve nevva been a muvva to meeee” then the police. What I wouldn’t give to be disturbed by neighbours in a nice area living normal lives.

What on earth are you going in about? “On the sauce ‘ means drunk not on your period if thats what you are thinking.

rubyslippers · 25/05/2026 19:52

Playing loud music is much worse than conversations

Going by the user name they're from my neck of the woods.
I've no idea wtf they're on about.🤷

You’re not their neighbour are you?! Talking in your cavernous grey kitchen?!😁

CunningLinguist2 · 25/05/2026 20:02

They chat - in their home? Sometimes with the doors to their garden open - and you don’t like their conversations? They don’t yell, scream, screech, smoke weed or play music outside?
You can be annoyed all you want but this is very much a YOU problem. They aren’t doing anything wrong or antisocial.
your sound system though…
Telling those who disagree w you to be gone or that asking if you’re drunk is demeaning to women is just … crazy!
it’s a very hot day so I’m hoping you’re normally a lot more calm & levelheaded
