Really depressed I didn’t just go on Ozempic - only maintained for a year

I don’t know I really need a rant.

I feel really angry and upset at myself. To the point i just want to scream/cry.

Last year i lost 55 pounds without glp 1s. I totally cut out carbs (well I’d eat sweet potatoes if absolutely necessary). And just made an effort not to use food as a crutch. It worked fairly well as the weight came off.

I decided I needed more moderation. The no carb thing was just making me have cravings. So I started eating jackets, pasta salads etc. Not ideal as I have pcos but I try to be sensible. Ie having cooled down pasta to make it resistant or whatever. Not smothering pasta in cheese etc.

Its meant my weight loss has completely stalled. I’m happy that I’ve not gained all the weight back. But still. I’ve been eating in moderation for a year and not lost weight! I can’t deny this anger is compounded by the fact I saw my friend for lunch today. She’s lost 5 stone in 5 months using Mounjaro.

I just want to weep. I wish I just started on Ozempic or similar. I’m at my goal weight but to be honest I’d love another stone off. I don’t know why I didn’t go
on a glp 1. I just knew in my heart that my weight was not “inexplicable”. I was eating far too much out of boredom.

Just another sunny day wasted hating myself even though I’ve tried 😢

I’ve been going to the gym too. How pathetic to be this mindful and to not have lost any weight.

Or idiots

That was unnecessary. Especially considering we have decades of data from Ozempic and it’s unlikely to be much of anything. Can we not accept that these will be a boon for humanity?

Mosaic80 · Today 11:10

Maintaining is a massive deal (especially with pcos) so a huge well done to you. And well done for losing all the weight in the first place, that’s amazing.

Id try a bit of intermittent fasting if you can. And focus on continuing to maintain then working on enjoying your body how it is now. Maybe in a year you’d be happier to reduce carbs again? Or can you reduce carbs a tiny bit from where you are now?

reducing carbs is the only thing that works for me. Otherwise I just maintain. It’s a tie but at least it doesn’t require extensive calorie counting!

I think its the most important medical discovery since insulin and penicillin.
I think people doing their own thing with any medication are idiots.

It’s fine if you can read and do basic math. Although posts on Reddit are evidence that not everyone can, in fact, do math. YMMV

Anyway, seems like a lot of people in the UK have to quit peptides before they are ready and it’s sad. Why is it that they generally cannot get it very easily through compounders? This also opens up the drug
to those wanting to use it for other things than specifically weight loss.

BurnoutGP · Today 11:36

Because "compounders" are nor regulated or approved. So can pose significant risks. You do you but luckily in the UK we have actual regulated health care and medication. I stand by the idiot comment.

Twinkylightsg · Today 11:47

I find with carbs (I have pcos) that it is best to 1. Have it for breakfast like oatmeal. 2. Have brown rice or potato or white rice etc but not pasta.

Also making sure it's 1/2 a cup per portion.

It works well.

montysmaw · Today 11:57

@MeridaBrave I have extreme tone in my arms, my husband is a strength coach. But I still have wrinkles on my arms. Because the skin is wrecked.
I have a 6 pack, but after twins and 2 c sections I still have a pouch . No amount of muscle will remove an empty pocket of skin. Its skin, not muscle, you cant "work it".
There is no point in pretending that weights will get rid of everything. Skin is skin and if you have a low body weight, you would have to pack on a lot of muscle to smooth out drastically stretched middle aged skin.

Its all relative to your age , the amount you have lost, how long you were fat for.

You have managed to lose and maintain your weight without unnecessary drugs. You are going to the gym. You will be healthy and fit. Drugs might help you lose but won't improve your fitness and who knows what they will do to long-term health. Stop focusing on looks and focus on health and longevity.

cutting out carbs doesn't make someone fit either.

Yes obesity is definitely much better than unnecessary drugs..for sure 🙄🙄🙄

Pharmacies are doing the compounding. It’s not really risky, doctors give you proper dosing, no need to be so weird about it

re carbs

i dont thinks it’s feasible to cut out a food group in its entirety

it will likely lead to binge eating and you won’t reach your goals. carbs are also essential for pre workout!

there are some hacks - measure out everything so you know how much you’re consuming

high protein breads can be helpful. And some carbs are more satiating than others - potatoes, oats and my personal favourite is butternut squash which has very low calories per 100g

it can be done but requires consistency and diligence

lots of cheat codes on having high protein / low cal treats too - fat free skyr yoghurt is great with berries and crushed meringue. It does require a little thinking outside of the box but this is all nutritious food!

Edited

You said you had a BMI of around 19? Mine is over 23 with under 20% bodyfat. I’ve gained around 8-10kg of muscle over the past 5 years. Agree nothing can be done with stomach- I have some loose skin on lower stomach from pregnancy but arms now just look jacked.

As someone who has maintained for 20 years, give or take a year or two around kids and a few years at the higher end of my natural range, I have to say it really annoys me that people seem to think being slim after being bigger will be easy.

It's not. That's why diets don't work because you really do have to make anpermanent lifestyle change. Forever.

Most people have never known me when I was overweight so they probably think it's weird that I don't have cake and coffee or just a few biscuits but it's because I can't without sliding up the scales.

I say this in the nicest possible way: anyone losing weight needs to come to terms with making permanent lifestyle choices to maintain their weight. And I know its not fair that some people can eat more but that's just life.

Some people Use weight loss drugs and others don't and that's just life too.

I've had my belly hang longer than I've had my kids but I've had to accept ill never look like a catwalk model in a bikini. And that's OK. You've done brilliantly OP and overweight you would be so proud, and grateful, if you manage to avoid health conditions and can use and enjoy your healthy body.

What pharmacies ar offering compounds, it’s illegal everywhere.

If it was dangerous, we’d have seen it. Getting compounded GLP-1s is really common in the US, a lot of doctors will prescribe off-label, it’s actually fine and it’s quite a shame it’s not really done in the UK, sad to see so many posts of women coming off the GLPs before they’re ready.

socks1107 · Today 18:16

I’ve also lost 50lbs on my own, I now weight 149lbs. I still have wobbly bits and a touch or crinkly skin under my arms but I LOVE my new body. It’s mine, it been larger and now smaller and carried two babies and illness and it looks significantly better than it did. I’m a size 8/12 and I’ll be getting crinkly arms out whatever.
Comparisons with others are only hurting you, be proud you don’t have to use medication and have had a lifestyle change - many dream of being able to do that

They’ve chipped away at it. But it’s still widely available, and I’m not talking about research peptides either (which is what people will do if you ban compounded versions completely)

But you know it’s nothing about safety. It’s all because Eli Lilly and Novo complained

Do you think all people that don’t rely on medication should be proud? Or just obese people? Can I be proud I’ve never needed chemotherapy or insulin?
