Really depressed I didn’t just go on Ozempic - only maintained for a year

I don’t know I really need a rant.

I feel really angry and upset at myself. To the point i just want to scream/cry.

Last year i lost 55 pounds without glp 1s. I totally cut out carbs (well I’d eat sweet potatoes if absolutely necessary). And just made an effort not to use food as a crutch. It worked fairly well as the weight came off.

I decided I needed more moderation. The no carb thing was just making me have cravings. So I started eating jackets, pasta salads etc. Not ideal as I have pcos but I try to be sensible. Ie having cooled down pasta to make it resistant or whatever. Not smothering pasta in cheese etc.

Its meant my weight loss has completely stalled. I’m happy that I’ve not gained all the weight back. But still. I’ve been eating in moderation for a year and not lost weight! I can’t deny this anger is compounded by the fact I saw my friend for lunch today. She’s lost 5 stone in 5 months using Mounjaro.

I just want to weep. I wish I just started on Ozempic or similar. I’m at my goal weight but to be honest I’d love another stone off. I don’t know why I didn’t go
on a glp 1. I just knew in my heart that my weight was not “inexplicable”. I was eating far too much out of boredom.

Just another sunny day wasted hating myself even though I’ve tried 😢

I’ve been going to the gym too. How pathetic to be this mindful and to not have lost any weight.

GLPs are not designed for weight loss. They’re a diabetes drug - weight loss is just a happy side effect. I am T2 diabetic, with PCOS and had to fight tooth and nail for my GP to listen to me enough to even consider the ozempic. I am insulin dependent and my HB1AC is in target - but only due the VAST amounts of insulin I was taking daily (30/40 units with meals - even 20units for a small apple!) he finally after almost 3 months of back and forth (tests, BP checks, weigh in at dr, access to my CGM) he finally agreed that I was in need of the extra support a GLP would give me.

Also weight loss is not guaranteed.

Don't put yourself down. You’ve done fantasticly but I do feel you went a bit crazy with the no carbs at all - everything in moderation! You just need a new plan now because your body will have become accustomed to the way you were eating.

Do you use a calorie counting app? They help me massively alongside exercise so maybe give that a go but just because your friend lost that huge amount on MJ doesn’t mean she’s taken the easy way out. You still need to work hard at it otherwise she will put it all back on and more once she comes off the jabs. Also she must have an underlying health condition that got her accepted for the GLPs.

You’ve already done the ground work so just stick with it.

Well done getting to your goal weight but don’t be too hard on yourself.

I’m pissed i still can’t enjoy a sunny day without feeling self conscious even though I’ve lost weight in a sensible fashion which isn’t getting me anywhere now. I’m so exhausted with my body

Edited

Can I just point out that it’s a mind set thing, not a losing weight thing. You’ll feel no better if you lose another stone I’m afraid. I now weight 120 lbs and still feel awful and wobbly but my sister is 2 stone more than me and I think she looks fantastic.

Sight. GLP1 are in fact weight loss drugs. Weight loss is not a "side effect"

I hated my body a few months ago so I did what I did in 2019/2020. I lost 2.5 stone doing toning workouts aimed at losing stubborn belly fat on YouTube, there are workouts that are 7 mins long and they really work if you do them every day! I started on those, built up my fitness, and now I can do a 30 min one, I’ve toned everywhere & sped up my metabolism. I’ve lost over a stone so far but I don’t really weigh myself. Got more to go as I progress. I can tell in my clothes. I’ve dropped a dress size. The trainer I use has hundreds of workouts suitable for everyone. I get bored easily but don’t with her workouts some are
really enjoyable but she has so much to choose from. Arm workouts, leg workouts, walking workouts, menopause, bum toning etc. I have never gone to a gym and never will. I also don’t want to look like a body builder 🤣 I love that I can do these at home and don’t have to fork out for gym or waste time travelling. I have a daughter with SN out of school anyway so this suits me. LucyWyndhamRead
it is not a quick fix like WLI and you need to be consistent. I’ve had the best results with these than I ever did with diet alone. I find diets too restricting so with these I can afford to have the odd chippy tea 🤣 and choc bars

The complete nonsense/judgement/ignorance on this thread is gobsmacking

Not for every single person and not all the weight! Have you read the studies?? Or just social media and the daily fail?
I have ..this is my area of work.
And I can assure you "pure grit without the drugs" does absolutely no better long term.
Like any chronic disease treatment is long term. Or do you think diabetics, depressed people, asthmatic should manage without " the drugs"??

I have bugger all view on it

just clocked your view and thought odd that seemed a bit different to what I’d reads from you on other threads 🤷‍♀️

5 stone in 5 months is awfully quick. I'm steadily losing on MJ but only a couple of pounds a month. I think I'd be worried if I was losing 14lbs a month.

You clearly do have a view. But I have no idea what you're trying to imply?

A GLP1 wouldn’t tone your wobbly bits. So you went from 62kg to 54kg, how tall are you? Spend the money you could have thrown at a GLP1 into a PT, who would help you devise a more effective plan than Tik Tok. Have you been lifting 2kg for the entire year?

I’m having my gallbladder out soon as I have started getting gallstones, do you know the first thing they asked when I was admitted with pain that was what I’d say way worse then labour? Have you took weight loss medication or injections. I haven’t but asked why. She said the influx in people coming in with gallstones and gallbladder problems after taking them is crazy so it’s now a question they first ask. She also said there is little to no point in them as when you stop them you eat normal again and gain the weight back. So loose it naturally or risk watching fats constantly and being on the medication for life if you want to keep the weight off. It’s a risk I would never take.

80% of people that lose weight without the help of WLIs regain it too. It’s not unique to people using WLIs.

If you stop any weight loss method…you’ll stop losing weight.

More uneducated nonsense. The risk of gallstones is related to weight loss not GLP1 per se. Its actually a good thing people are losing weight. The population will overall be healthier.
The risk of obesity and the cost to the health service is immeasurably higher than any risks of the GLP1.
I despair of the ignorance and then parrotting it as if you in your ignorance are the actual font of knowledge

Exactly correct. So having a medication that you can take long term to counteract that is a very good thing indeed.
Kinda like when they discovered all the wonderful meds we have for other chronic diseases

You can’t have a stone to lose if your BMI is healthy though. You should be really proud of having got to goal weight on your own.

I don't know about OP, but my healthy range goes from 8 stone something to 11 stone. So I could be 10st 7 and still be able to go to 9st 7lb without being underweight.

I love how on mumsnet when you disagree with someone who you can't argue with, you just resort to character assassination and patronising nonsense . Im "dogmatic" and erm angry because this is an area I am experienced in and care about and get really irritated at the absolute nonsense that people spout with such certainty.

I’m 137 pounds. I’d love to be 120. My arms and stomach just look awful uncovered

Oh love. How tall are you? I’m 150 pounds and my arms look great. My stomach has seen better days but that’s three kids for you. 137 pounds is slim. Weights will help your arms look better, and Pilates your stomach, but at 137 pounds this hatred of your body feels like there’s something else going on.

My goal weight puts me in the healthy range. I still have wobbly bits that are getting me down.

Congrats on your weight loss

you have probably retained more muscle mass than your friend who took glp1

the wobbly bits are what everyone has. They needs to be turned into muscle through strength training if you want to achieve a lean look while being in a calorie deficit

good luck!

Of course people get het up. It’s both frustrating and insulting to people taking (or prescribing) these medications to continually hear from people who have no idea what they’re talking about repeating nonsense about side effects they’ve read from dubious sources - as if the people actually using the medications are too stupid to understand the medication they’ve been prescribed. It doesn’t happen with any other medication - or any other use of this specific medication. Only when it comes to GLP1s for weight loss do totally unqualified people feel they have more insight into the risks.

couple that with people praising someone for cutting out an entire food group as being a healthier way to lose weight based on nothing other than a perception that WLI users are lazy and that weight loss is only worthy if you’ve had to suffer for it and yeah, people will of course get “het up”
