To judge people for supporting MJ?

No doubt this will rub some people up the wrong way, but when I see people enjoying the new Michael Jackson movie or generally dismissing the abuse he perpetrated as ‘he was a child himself’, I immediately dislike them and consider them supporters of child abuse. Having read the testimonies of the victims and the multiple witnesses to his inappropriate grooming behaviour, I have no doubt in my mind that he was a child groomer and abuser and people’s support of him disgusts me. Just unfollowed someone on Instagram for posting about their enjoyment of the new movie and what a legend he is. AIBU?

Yep totally agree. Even if they said ‘yes, he was a total nonce but I still can’t help liking his music’ I would still find it distasteful but say fair enough... But to be so starstruck that you are blind to the depravities that rich and privileged men get away with is just thick and deluded. And in MJ’s case he wasn’t even hiding it. YANBU.

YankSplaining · 16/05/2026 20:47

You are being unreasonable, because not everyone has the same level of knowledge about the allegations. People have busy lives and and aren’t necessarily going to have the time or find the time to read everything you’ve read.

TomatoSandwiches · 16/05/2026 20:51

Some people genuinely believe he is innocent of the accusations.

WarrenHouse · 16/05/2026 20:51

MJ was a pedophile? I didn’t even know that…

Doggymummar · 16/05/2026 20:53

It was a long time ago now and people have short memories. I'm sure he was guilty

SqueakyFromme · 16/05/2026 20:54

@Screamingabdabz that sums it up

If they are ill educated about the situation, then I would judge them for that too. Anyone who has heard of Michael Jackson and indeed gives enough of a shit about him to go to the movie has heard of the allegations. If you have the time to listen to his music and watch his biopic, then you have the time to inform yourself about the details of the case and the testimonies of the victims. The information is readily available enough, but they don’t care enough to educate themselves.

Massive peado.

lightningatmidnight · 16/05/2026 20:57

Incidentally I also feel the same about the supporters of Michael Barrymore. Selective memories, inability to challenge their perception of beloved entertainers. Lack of critical thinking makes them complicit in my eyes. What is it about Michaels?!

@lightningatmidnight well yes but are there any Michael Barrymore supporters ? He’s the epitome of ‘disgraced has-been’ now I would have thought

You obviously haven’t seen his TikTok. It’s grotesque, the comment section just feeds his narcissism and sense of indignation about his fall from grace with their memories and bleating of support.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 16/05/2026 21:06

💯 believe he was a peado.

The parasocial relationship his fans have with him, is frankly disturbing.

SqueakyFromme · 16/05/2026 21:14

@lightningatmidnight okay that’s a surprise to me, I am happy to be corrected and no I have no interest in Tik Tok at all ! that’s awful he’s playing the victim. I watched a very good documentary a while back about the case, it was very sad, Stuart’s father was interviewed in his care home, has since died. There was no way MB was not complicit in that young man’s death.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/05/2026 21:14

I used to work with someone obsessed with Michael Jackson wouldn’t hear a word against him. All his accusers just after his money, was in a job where sound judgement of people is essential as well!

Yeah sorry

I get it - if someone told me that Beyonce was a nonce, i'd fall to pieces

But hes a nonce

Scarlettjune · 17/05/2026 01:35

He was never found guilty by a court.

He went to court for one case and was found to be not guilty.

All the other accusers are suing him for money.

But they are all after his money. Thats a fact. They are suing his estate for millions of dollars.

PollyBell · 17/05/2026 02:31

I am neutral on him so have no opinion either way but please point us to where he was convicted of something and not trial by public opinion

slet · 17/05/2026 02:36

I’m no fan of MJ but….

does watching the movie or even enjoying the movie make you a “supporter” of him? I think it’s possible to enjoy the film about him whilst still not condoning his actions.

GoodVibesHere · 17/05/2026 03:06

MasterBeth · 16/05/2026 20:56

Massive peado.

You can't even spell it.

One day people will realise what the media did to that poor man who did nothing wrong, in fact an humanitarian who gave so much.

And he is dead how can you support a dead person, going by that thinking

Mind you there are people who probably think he is alive and living in Spain

SuddenlyBecoming · 17/05/2026 04:35

Well you clearly have a superior understanding of the evidence than the one jury he appeared before and was found not guilty. Aren't you fortunate to be so intelligent you not only know something that is unproven but also are able to tell others how wrong they are.

Why would you trust media released information to form your life? I find you bizarre and lacking critical thinking skills.

TheDogsChair · 17/05/2026 04:40

I agree with you OP. Even if he wasn’t a paedo (he was), he still liked to spend his time with random young children. To even excuse that sort of behaviour, never mind the sexual abuse of children, shows people’s character and makes me worry whether they’re capable of making safe choices for their children.

SeekingTreasures · 17/05/2026 05:10

Thanks for this thread, OP. YANBU.

I have never understood how people could turn a blind eye to MJ’s shameful behaviour. I mean the video of him dangling his baby out of the window of a high building is still out there for all to see. But, it seems to have paled into insignificance for most people! Well it hasn’t for me. I think it’s shocking. Poor vulnerable baby, who he had under his care and responsibility…

As for the claims that he sexually abused children, I believe he was guilty of that and had so much money to use and buy himself out of many, many situations. So many that are beyond me.

I refuse to participate in any way with his shameful behaviour. I loved his music when I was younger and now I refuse to listen to it. If it comes on the radio, in honour of the victims and in honour of my own values, I switch the channel immediately. I don’t care if that doesn’t make a difference to anyone or anything else. It makes a difference to me.
