To judge people for supporting MJ?

No doubt this will rub some people up the wrong way, but when I see people enjoying the new Michael Jackson movie or generally dismissing the abuse he perpetrated as ‘he was a child himself’, I immediately dislike them and consider them supporters of child abuse. Having read the testimonies of the victims and the multiple witnesses to his inappropriate grooming behaviour, I have no doubt in my mind that he was a child groomer and abuser and people’s support of him disgusts me. Just unfollowed someone on Instagram for posting about their enjoyment of the new movie and what a legend he is. AIBU?

Well you clearly have a superior understanding of the evidence than the one jury he appeared before and was found not guilty. Aren't you fortunate to be so intelligent you not only know something that is unproven but also are able to tell others how wrong they are.

Why would you trust media released information to form your life? I find you bizarre and lacking critical thinking skills.

This.

TwinklyGoldPeer · 17/05/2026 08:21

I dislike people who say the judge you for X, Y or Z like it's meant to have automatic impact on the 'judged' person.

Sorry for any ignorance here, I was very young when the incident in his pool happened but I liked MB very much as a child and would pretend to be him in the playground! I understand a man died at a party in his pool and there were rumours drugs were involved/ suspicions he had been pushed in when off his face but MB wasn’t near the incident at the time, was he? I’m sure he was inside the home. Or has he done something else I don’t know about?

MB had a bunch of people at his home, having an impromptu party after a night out. I think there were maybe 10-12 people there. The young man was found floating in the pool and had been sexually assaulted. Everyone at the party said they didn’t see anything and the police could never prove who was inside/outside/in what rooms at any given point.

So there’s no evidence MB knew anything or did anything but that’s the same for everyone present and yet someone clearly did something. So he’s never been able to shake off suspicion.

Wasn't there some mention of MB keeping him chained up as a sex slave? Or am I thinking of someone else? (Like Boy George maybe?)

OriginalPedant · 17/05/2026 08:30

I don’t think going to see the film is necessarily ‘supporting’ Michael Jackson as most people wouldn’t think that deeply about it. Or if they have given it thought, they might see appreciation of the music as distinct from moral approval.

I certainly believe all the allegations made against him so would not watch the film. But I also don’t like his music, so wouldn’t see it even if he wasn’t a creepy pervert.

1975wasthebest · 17/05/2026 08:37

Judge who you want, we all do it.

As for Jackson, I lean towards him being innocent because the evidence amounts to, well, fuck all.

I enjoyed the film hugely, going to see it again soon and I’m glad it’s making a lot of money.

BreezyMintHiker · 17/05/2026 08:38

Of course he was a paedo. Even his chimpanzee aged out of his target demographic.

SqueakyFromme · 17/05/2026 08:44

@BreezyMintHiker poor bubbles 😢 I read a lot of the animals from his zoo were rehomed but some badly regulated and were neglected.

Lurker85 · 17/05/2026 08:47

Documentaries are made by the media and are entertainment to get more viewers and can also be manipulated by people in power to push an agenda. Everyone who spoke on there would have been paid to do so. No hard evidence is required and no background checks needed on “witnesses” If I had enough money and a production company, I could create a documentary saying that Brad Pitt likes to live his life behind closed doors dressed as a cat. I could pay enough people to come on and say they had seen it on numerous occasions. You would believe it as it was in a documentary. Courts however, require proper evidence. Strangely enough, they didn’t find any. You go ahead and judge those who have seen the film. I will judge those who believe everything the media shove down their throat and cant separate entertainment from real life. You know people who watch horror films don’t all condone murder right?

Flomingho · 17/05/2026 08:49

People still watch the Netflix series The Crown, yet the late Queen Elizabeth paid for abuse allegations to disappear.....

That was Boy George who we see every bloody week on TV.

MB never went back to TV

SqueakyFromme · 17/05/2026 08:57

@Tcateh i think he went on ‘celebrity’ big brother after, not totally sure though

Tcateh · 17/05/2026 09:05

Oh yeah, not regular TV tho?

user293948849167 · 17/05/2026 09:08

I did initially think he was definitely guilty but now having read/watched things from both sides I think he could actually be innocent. I don’t know for sure anyway but there is enough doubt for me to think it’s unfair to “cancel” him.
I used to be a big fan, I enjoy the music, he was incredibly talented. None of that has gone away.
I don’t idolise him though and he did do a lot of inappropriate things, he had a lot of issues obviously.
I don’t think it’s any of your business to judge people you don’t even know for going to see the film

SqueakyFromme · 17/05/2026 09:11

@Tcateh no he’s washed up, nobody would touch him with a barge pole now, OP says he does Tik-Tok so that says it all really

Ladybyrd · 17/05/2026 09:12

I thought you meant Mounjaro 😆

Your OP sounds ignorant. Boy George is nowhere near as popular as he was 40 years ago, but he’s still doing gigs and DJ-ing. He had a book out two years ago, featured in Eurovision, so, no, he’s not “washed up”.

Agreed. I was referring to Michael Barrymore In reply to @Tcateh

She's talking about Michael Barrymore there

1975wasthebest · 17/05/2026 09:26

Very sorry @SqueakyFromme , I wasn’t reading properly. I read he has 4 million subscribers on Tik Tok but no idea how that translates to profit.

TheDogsChair · 17/05/2026 04:40

I agree with you OP. Even if he wasn’t a paedo (he was), he still liked to spend his time with random young children. To even excuse that sort of behaviour, never mind the sexual abuse of children, shows people’s character and makes me worry whether they’re capable of making safe choices for their children.

Even if he wasn’t a paedo (he was), he still liked to spend his time with random young children

So do teachers? And child entertainers? And people who volenteer at children's youth clubs ect.

I have no opinion on whether he was or wasn't. But to say someone's a peado because they like spending time with random children is bizarre.

Instructions · 17/05/2026 09:35

I'm not so bothered about people continuing to enjoy the music or even watch the new film: throughout history art has been produced by terrible people, or at least people who have done pretty terrible things. I didn't stop loving Led Zeppelin's work when I learned about the 14 year old girl the guitarist was "in a relationship" with as an adult, I can't pretend I never watched Fight Club again after learning that Brad Pitt was violent and abusive to his family, etc.

But the recent push to pretend that Michael Jackson was actively trying to protect children from Epstein and was an innocent misunderstood hero rather than a very troubled man whose relationships with children were inappropriate at best and likely to have been actively predatory and abusive has been sickening.

SqueakyFromme · 17/05/2026 09:35

@1975wasthebest no problem ! Thank you 😀 I’ve no idea about Tik-Tok, I suppose he could be making a few bob !

Yes, but have they admitted to sharing a bed with said children like MJ did?

BillieWiper · 17/05/2026 09:39

GoodVibesHere · 17/05/2026 03:06

You can't even spell it.

One day people will realise what the media did to that poor man who did nothing wrong, in fact an humanitarian who gave so much.

Would you let you underage sons share a bed with him then?
