Delta Goodrem representing Australia in the Eurovision

Delta Goodrem is an existing pop star, worth $24 Million. I thought the Eurovision was meant to be for singers who weren't already pop stars.

I mean, why don't we just send the Rolling Stones then? Or Ed Sheeran? Where does it end? 😳

Oh I used to love her!

musicalfrog · 16/05/2026 10:01

I don't think that is the point of Eurovision at all.

Not entirely sure what the point actually is, but it's never been that!

sundaysurfing · 16/05/2026 10:01

She’s old news - Exactly what makes it to Eurovision. When is the last time you heard a Delta Goodrem song?

StephensLass1977 · 16/05/2026 10:01

I'm just annoyed they're even allowed to participate.

Yes re Delta. I've been a fan since her early days, and she's fabulous. Hope the contest doesn't cheapen her image. No idea why she isn't bigger than she is, but yes, very unfair of them to send her!

All the time. She has an extensive catalogue and regularly releases new stuff.

N4meChng · 16/05/2026 10:02

It’s a song contest, rather than singer contest. As far as I k ow, the only rule is that the song has to be written by someone in the relevant country - anyone can perform for any country. Generally people aren’t interested in performing if they’re already famous, so it tends to be newcomers from the country who perform

SpringsOnTheWay · 16/05/2026 10:05

We’ve done the same. The darkness did a song, Katrina and the waves.

SandalsandPools · 16/05/2026 10:05

It still annoys me that Australia is now in Eurovision. They shouldn’t have been invited to join.

SwedishEdith · 16/05/2026 10:05

We did used to send our big(gish) stars like Cliff, Lulu, Olivia Newton John. The reason we don't is that it became naff and no one wanted to be associated with it. Blue represented the UK about 15 years ago.

AgnesX · 16/05/2026 10:06

The BBC were waxing enthusiastic about Australia's entry (which I didn't care for personally). I wonder if there's going to be some tactical voting resulting in Aus having to host the competition next year!

It does for uk, as everyone hates us. But Australia, she should be ok

EarthlyNightshade · 16/05/2026 10:06

Katrina and the waves were pretty famous. Lulu, in fact many UK singers and groups were well known before they entered. I am sure the same is true for other countries.

Edited

I forgot about blue!!!

KnickerlessParsons · 16/05/2026 10:07

Lots of the singers from other countries are famous in their own countries and across Europe.

Pipsquiggle · 16/05/2026 10:09

Cliff Richard was at his prime when he represented UK
Lulu
Michael Ball
Sonia
An established performer representing a country is nothing new. It's been happening for decades

RaincloudSundae · 16/05/2026 10:10

Other countries use well know stars sometimes, so it shouldn't be any different for Australia . I really like Delta, and just hope she gets a fair result. I am confused as to why UK still participate after the the way we have been treated in the past, and not heard the song yet.

Gall10 · 16/05/2026 10:12

I havnt aw clue who this delta person is? Don’t even know if they’re male or female?
I assume it’s an ex actor from either neighbo or that other Australian soap?

MrsShawnHatosy · 16/05/2026 10:13

Other countries do use people that are well known, even stars, in their own countries. As indeed we used to. Cliff Richard, Lulu, Sandie Shaw?

BellatrixpureBlood · 16/05/2026 10:15

I don’t get why a non European country is allowed to enter the contest

Makemeinvisible · 16/05/2026 10:15

I've never even heard of Delta Goodrem!

But I came on to say similar to @SwedishEdith The UK has certainly got form for using well known , well established, pop acts. And I assume other countries have done the same

Tbh I find it hard to believe how seriously people take the Eurovision song contest these days. When I was young it was generally looked down on, derided and dismissed as totally uncool and irrelevant How on earth it has become so popular is a total mystery to me. As is why anyone has any interest in it!

CuteOrangeElephant · 16/05/2026 10:17

Can we please stop this idea that the UK do badly at Eurovision because everyone hates the UK.

The UK do badly because they send bad songs. No one cares enough about the UK to hate it.

Sam Rider ought to be proof enough that it is, in fact, about the performance.

Tablesandchairs23 · 16/05/2026 10:17

How do you know what shes worth. Have you seen her babk account or just Google!

Elbowpatch · 16/05/2026 10:18

BellatrixpureBlood · 16/05/2026 10:15

I don’t get why a non European country is allowed to enter the contest

Because their population is predominantly of recent European origin.

Cyprus and Israel are geographically not in Europe either.

Prawnalicious · 16/05/2026 10:19

She did a fantastic job at the semi finals during the week- pitch perfect and a Celine worthy performance.

Dogladyloveswine · 16/05/2026 10:20

Ah, I didn't know that we had sent famous people before! We used to watch this religiously as kids, but I don't bother these days. I was just shocked to see Delta, as I remember her from when she was quite famous!
