Delta Goodrem representing Australia in the Eurovision

Delta Goodrem is an existing pop star, worth $24 Million. I thought the Eurovision was meant to be for singers who weren't already pop stars.

I mean, why don't we just send the Rolling Stones then? Or Ed Sheeran? Where does it end? 😳

OP posts:

And Boy George appeared this year in San Marino's Eurovision act!

Blundl · 16/05/2026 10:26

I said to DH someone who was in Neighbours is in it and he said who, Kylie.

We also had Engelbert Humperdinck one year iirc. Whether they are known or not we rarely do any good. Though if Australia win, we may get to host again

VickyEadie · 16/05/2026 10:27

I'm old enough to have actually watched Sandie Shaw, Lulu, Cliff Richard (twice), The New Seekers (worldwide hit with 'I'd like to teach the world to sing', etc), Olivia Newton John, and others who were very much famous, established pop acts. Others have mentioned Katrina and the Waves, Michael Ball and Blue.

OP, it's about the song - which must be original and written for the contest - and there has never been any sort of rule that the singer/band must be an unknown act.

It still annoys me that Australia is now in Eurovision. They shouldn’t have been invited to join.

It’s a lot more annoying that Israel are there.

elfendom1 · 16/05/2026 10:30

Elbowpatch · 16/05/2026 10:18

Because their population is predominantly of recent European origin.

Cyprus and Israel are geographically not in Europe either.

That is incorrect. You could say that about a lot of places. Why are Israel in it? What makes Russia different from Israel? I always thought Cyprus was in Europe, being a member of the EU? So many questions that have no logical answers.

notacooldad · 16/05/2026 10:30

I dont think its about finding 'new talent' at all.
It's just about representing your country.
Theres nothing wrong with Delta.

TerrysCIockworkOrange · 16/05/2026 10:30

If Australia win, does everyone have to schlep over there next year?!?

PurpleAxe · 16/05/2026 10:31

Eurovision has a point?

FeralWoman · 16/05/2026 10:34

Gall10 · 16/05/2026 10:12

I havnt aw clue who this delta person is? Don’t even know if they’re male or female?
I assume it’s an ex actor from either neighbo or that other Australian soap?

Yes she started on Neighbours but she’s legitimately a very talented singer. Released her first song in 2002, first album in 2003, fought cancer in 2003, and has kept making songs and performing ever since. Appeared on The Voice Australia for 8 years as a judge. She’s 41yo.

I read that one of the big 4 does it, so maybe could be us, though more likely Germany and they co host.

I fecking hate Eurovision. It’s pointless! Almost literally for the UK. I find it irritating that Casualty won’t be shown tonight because of it. Fecking Eurovision 😡🤬😡

BeardofHagrid · 16/05/2026 10:37

Australia being in EUROvision is a complete farce in itself, since their inclusion I haven’t bothered watching. There’s also too much strobe/light flashing for me. (And I’m not even epileptic.) I don’t know how people can cope with hours and hours of it.

I’d like it to go back to being a song contest with simple staging, not this overproduced monstrosity.

Dollymylove · 16/05/2026 10:38

Pipsquiggle · 16/05/2026 10:09

Cliff Richard was at his prime when he represented UK
Lulu
Michael Ball
Sonia
An established performer representing a country is nothing new. It's been happening for decades

Yes thats true, I was just about to post. The New Seekers were also a well known band who came second in 1972

manovertheroad · 16/05/2026 10:40

I’m always astonished it’s still a thing. A load of randomers singing songs nobody knows - I can’t listen to radio 2 at the moment as they keep banging on about it.

Moltenpink · 16/05/2026 10:40

I thought Olly Alexander was a big star when he did it. Not a great song though unfortunately!

Oh dear. What a shame you're going to be inconvenienced for an event that only happens once a year.

Once a year is way too much for Eurovision!

SwedishEdith · 16/05/2026 10:43

CuteOrangeElephant · 16/05/2026 10:17

Can we please stop this idea that the UK do badly at Eurovision because everyone hates the UK.

The UK do badly because they send bad songs. No one cares enough about the UK to hate it.

Sam Rider ought to be proof enough that it is, in fact, about the performance.

Exactly. This "they all hate us" is tiresome. Voting is for who you like not against those you don't like.

And Australia pays to be part of the EBU, presumably because Australia is made up of lots of relatively recent European immigrants still. I'd have to check but I'm pretty sure they would not host it in Australia if they won.

Missey85 · 16/05/2026 10:43

BellatrixpureBlood · 16/05/2026 10:15

I don’t get why a non European country is allowed to enter the contest

Were allowed to enter because unlike you were still part of the European union

BrownBookshelf · 16/05/2026 10:44

Elbowpatch · 16/05/2026 10:18

Because their population is predominantly of recent European origin.

Cyprus and Israel are geographically not in Europe either.

That's not the reason. Morocco have been in it before, and Israel's population of Mizrahim and Arabs is over 50%.

There's quite a few countries outside Europe that could qualify because they're in or could be in the European Broadcasting Union, much of the Levant and North Africa.

Megjobethamy · 16/05/2026 10:45

Ireland have boycotted it and are showing Fr Ted's Song for Europe instead😄

TheDogsMother · 16/05/2026 10:45

We had Olly Alexander in 2024.

SwedishEdith · 16/05/2026 10:48

I did see Israel's song in the semi finals and thought it was incredibly boring shit - absolutely not winning material at all. So it will be fascinating watching the voting for that.

BellatrixpureBlood · 16/05/2026 10:49

Missey85 · 16/05/2026 10:43

EU membership has nothing to do with Eurovision participation. Liechtenstein Iceland and Switzerland. All not in the EU.

Australia is not in Europe never mind the EU.

what exactly are you on about?

LifesabagofRevels · 16/05/2026 10:50

Delta’s song is a pile of shite but she gives it her all. Could win it.
