The last thing this country needs is a new Prime Minster

I can’t believe what I’m hearing - we don’t need a new Prime Minster. Labour backbenchers have shown who they are. Their actions are going to affect the markets and possibly cause more damage to this country. Why can’t they focus on us - the public. Deeply dismayed that they are so out of touch with the public and are being self serving not thinking of the country’s interest.

Its just ridiculous atp

Theres so much going on in the world, we need stability against Trump

Say what you want about the tories, they bloody know how to stay in power - a united party is whats needed

HeyHoHenryHippy · Yesterday 18:52

Pointless changing leader afyer so little time in government.

Tories changed prime minister every few months and what a mess that was.

Feels like football where managers are sacked very quickly if things don't immediately change. Stupid.

InterestQ · Yesterday 18:52

We certainly don’t need a new, unelected Labour PM. Might as well stick with the one we’ve got til the next election - he is the one most people voting for Labour wanted.

The Tories did a lot of this crappy musical chairs and I don’t need to see it the other side of the House as well. Rachel Reeves, however, can definitely be replaced.

ByGraptharsHammer · Yesterday 18:53

Unfortunately like the last lot it’s why they aren’t fit to govern. Loyalty counts in politics. Not impressed.

IdaGlossop · Yesterday 18:59

This is tricky. The losses last Thursday were at such a level that I think it would be difficult for there to be no move towards replacing Starmer. However, unpopular and ineptitude though he is, he's not a disaster on the Liz Truss level. Stability is important because of the international situation - Trump, Iran, Ukraine - and reassuring the bond markets. We (the electorate) have allowed ourselves to believe that Prime Ministers are consumer goods which we can replace if we don't like them.

RufustheFactualReindeer · Yesterday 19:00

It is ridiculous, we need stability and this ain’t it

IoannahJo · Yesterday 19:03

I totally agree OP. I’m not Starmers biggest fan and a lapsed Labour voter, but I’m getting so angry with this whole internal palava, all being played at taxpayers expense when every elected MP needs to focus on what they are there for - their constituents.

The Labour Party voted in its leader. The GE was won with said leader with huge number of seats. People like Streeting and Rayner were presumably supportive of these things too. They were there! Rayner deputy for gods sake.

Sick of the lot of them and sick of hearing of the sainted Burnham. Well those of us who remember him from last time will know that he blew with the wind somewhat and more than once his own party didn’t want him as leader. And meanwhile in Scotland the sNP think

that they are due another referendum - seriously, fix the issues in Scotland that people nEED before using your time and energy in your ideology and dream.

Just do your fucking day jobs!!!

JaneFondue · Yesterday 19:04

Totally agree. We need stability now.

Hogwartsian · Yesterday 19:04

Completely agree. I can't get my head around it. I just want to tell them to get on with their jobs and running the country instead of creating all this drama that helps no one!

I could have missed something of course but I haven't seen Keir Starmer doing anything wrong? He's barely gotten started. I have liked what I've seen of him so far - he appears steady and serious. I'm not a labour voter but I want them all to leave him alone! It is so tiring.

Greenbather · Yesterday 19:05

I agree. They are turkeys voting for Christmas as there is no good alternative at the moment. I hope these MPs have some new job plans lined up.

And watching biased Beth Rigby on Sky barely getting her words out because she is beside her self with excitement, it's a disgrace. The media shouldn't be able to bring down successive governments just because they love the thrill of the chase.

AmberSpy · Yesterday 19:05

Agreed, I can't bear the thought of a summer of pointless psychodrama featuring Burnham, Rayner, Streeting, and whoever else. I want the government to govern, not waste time and taxpayer money on this nonsense.

IoannahJo · Yesterday 19:07

Absolutely stability and a serious PM needed. Sick to the back teeth of populism and people banging on about being boring or dull. So what. Even if imperfect, stability right now is what’s needed.

Every PM is effectively ‘unelected’ as we don’t elect a PM - we elect MPs and the leader of the party with the most MPs becomes PM.

ProudAmberTurtle · Yesterday 19:08

Very pleased that Starmer is toast but the alternatives look even worse.

The country needs an end to the chaos.

We need a general election now.

Yeah the press love all this infighting and drama.

IberianLynx · Yesterday 19:10

Hard agree. MPs need to get on with their jobs not piss about trying to oust a competent leader. It’s idiotic behaviour and I think Keir is handling it well.

Pearshapedpear · Yesterday 19:11

We don’t need a new Prime Minister…. We need a new Government

You’ve put very perfectly how I feel about Beth Rigby - how she builds the drama, has that awful whiny voice and whips everything up into a frenzy! but then it’s sky isn’t it and they’re as about as impartial as the BBC!

Ablondiebutagoody · Yesterday 19:13

I think that we do. Did you hear his speech today? It was embarrassing.

We really don't. Some sort of hung parliament with a Reform - Greens coalition at the helm. That's sure to be a functional government

He’s been PM for 2 years and you say ‘he’s barely getting started’.

He's useless.

That isn’t to say this is a good time for a new PM but he’s just so crap. Pity is there is no good alternative

Lindy2 · Yesterday 19:15

I agree and I'm not a Labour voter.

We need stability and I actually think Starmer leads in a calm and steady manner.

I'm sick to death of the MPs that just want to rock the boat for their own wanna be egos rather than the good of the country.

A general election is the last thing we need now.

Meadowfinch · Yesterday 19:16

If the Labour backbenchers no longer have faith in KS, what is the point of him? He doesn't provide the leadership they need, and they don't trust his judgement, so that leaves them without a leader. They cannot proceed on that basis. Every day will be one long argument, and nothing will get decided. They will flounder.

So they need to change. I don't see they have any choice, however inconvenient.

Why is he useless? What has he done wrong?
