The last thing this country needs is a new Prime Minster

I can’t believe what I’m hearing - we don’t need a new Prime Minster. Labour backbenchers have shown who they are. Their actions are going to affect the markets and possibly cause more damage to this country. Why can’t they focus on us - the public. Deeply dismayed that they are so out of touch with the public and are being self serving not thinking of the country’s interest.

That's not true, he is doing an exceptional job with Trump, the Iran circus and Ukraine.

By doing nothing. A stopped clock is right twice per day.

ProudAmberTurtle · Yesterday 19:38

Lemonfrost · Yesterday 19:26

Because that wouldn't be at all chaotic or destabilising, would it?

Because what we have now isn't chaotic or destabilising?

I never thought we could get a more incompetent, chaotic government than the last one.

I was very wrong.

Well, if you think it's bad now wait and see what happens if you get the GE you wish for.

The last thing we need is what we're currently getting.

A party in power that has descended into total and utter back-stabbing incompetence and chaos.

You really are the mistress of hyperbole.

MrsNathanDrake · Yesterday 19:42

Completely agree. I'm so fed up with people yreatiour politics like it's an episode of Britain's Got Talent where we just get rid of them once we're bored of them. I have plenty to criticise the government on, but we really don't need a change at the top now.

Ablondiebutagoody · Yesterday 19:43

Lemonfrost · Yesterday 19:40

What has he done with Trump and Iran that is so exceptional?

DPotter · Yesterday 19:46

Maybe it's my forceful personality that silences any nay sayers (I doubt it) but I have yet to meet in person anyone who thinks it would be a good move for the UK to change prime ministers - I meet a whole heap of different people in the course of my standard week.

The media feeding frenzy is absolutely appaling - they had the knives out for SKS before he'd even crossed the No 10 threshold less than 2 years ago.

Calls for a new prime minister are completely against the run of changes - when you list out what the Labour government have acheived since 2024, against a backdrop of 14 years of Tory misrule, I think he and his team have done just fine. And lets be honest it's not as if there is anyone who can hold a candle to him in the Parlimentary Labour party.

And as for calls for a general election - oh for God's sake. They have a majority of over 170 MPs - no one goes to the Country with that majority. Yes the Labour party lost council seats and councils last Thursday but they still control 105 with the next highest being the Lib Dems with 76.

As many have said we need a stable government - what with Trump in the States doing his level best to drag us into WW3, we need level heads in charge. And SKS has played his hand well against Trump - and I can't see the likes of Wes Streeting (as much as I like him in DoH) being able to carry that off with anything near as much gravitas.

Dragonscaledaisy · Yesterday 19:48

Ablondiebutagoody · Yesterday 19:13

I think that we do. Did you hear his speech today? It was embarrassing.

Quite. He demonstrated beautifully why he needs to be got rid of ASAP.

greypinkspoon · Yesterday 19:48

just Emailed my
labour MP stating my disgust

What has he done with Trump and Iran that is so exceptional?

Well Badenouch (Freudian slip there) and Farage would have had us piling in to an illegal, ill judged war alongside him in Iran.
The man is well respected in other countries for his handling of Trump.

Fascinating that you ask everyone you meet about the PM

As you say he has a 170 majority. What is he doing with it?

Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 19:52

Dragonscaledaisy · Yesterday 19:48

Quite. He demonstrated beautifully why he needs to be got rid of ASAP.

He uttered the same old overused phrases. He’ll never change, hasn’t got what it takes. You either have it, or you don’t. He hasn’t!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · Yesterday 19:54

Absolutely right OP.

We need to stop jettisoning PMs after five minutes. 2 years is nothing in the great scheme.

Europe is never going to take us seriously and allow us back in if we do that, and that has to be the paramount aim. Everything else flows from that.

Ablondiebutagoody · Yesterday 19:55

DPotter · Yesterday 19:49

So he did nothing? That was my point.

I agree. Tired, lacking in vision and out of ideas.

Walkerzoo · Yesterday 19:57

High hopes from him
But he is surrounded by incompetent people. Rayner with her taxes, reeves has no idea on economy, a focus on mandleson.....
Strewing who can't make a move as he also is embedded with Epstein
Then he brings back 2 old has-beens with bad history.

Labour needs to go

I am not reform and they are incompetent but they speak what people want to hear. And labour will self destruct.

They are so daft they don't deserve to be in govt

Myoldbear · Yesterday 19:58

TheFairyCaravan · Yesterday 19:30

I doubt it. They just want to sling mud from the sidelines

Exactly.

No one ever names any MP they think would be a better leader, and why.

The reason for that is because no one truthfully thinks anyone would be any better than Starmer is.

In fact mostly they would be much worse, and that's before the advantage of stability is even considered.

DPotter · Yesterday 19:58

Ablondiebutagoody · Yesterday 19:55

So he did nothing? That was my point.

Doing nothing in the face of pressure to join in is something. But he didn't do nothing he has argued against the whole debacle.

DPotter · Yesterday 20:00

LittleBearPad · Yesterday 19:51

I don't ask everyone I meet for their views on SJS however the media frenzy against is certainly a popular topic of conversation.

DPotter · Yesterday 19:58

He is exceptional at doing nothing. Pretty much admitted it in that speech today.

Lisanne55 · Yesterday 20:02

I totally agree. What we badly need after the past 10 years is some stability. Whilst I do think he's made mistakes, I don't think he's done anything particularly bad.

BlackRowan · Yesterday 20:07

I am also very angry. It’s ridiculous

SapphOhNo · Yesterday 20:14

ProudAmberTurtle · Yesterday 19:08

Very pleased that Starmer is toast but the alternatives look even worse.

The country needs an end to the chaos.

We need a general election now.

Don't talk utter nonsense. That would be more chaos.

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 20:15

He comes across very professional especially when dealing with Trump, who has thrown a lot of mud his way, he hasn’t responded to childish bullying tactics.
He’s handled the situation with Iran well. He stood firm by shaking Zelensky’s hand after the suit incident, the majority of the issues aren’t new. Trump will be gleefully excited at KS downfall that is enough of a reason to stop it happening.
