The last thing this country needs is a new Prime Minster

I can’t believe what I’m hearing - we don’t need a new Prime Minster. Labour backbenchers have shown who they are. Their actions are going to affect the markets and possibly cause more damage to this country. Why can’t they focus on us - the public. Deeply dismayed that they are so out of touch with the public and are being self serving not thinking of the country’s interest.

Completely agree. I don't know what the fuck they think they're playing at - we need stability and someone who can stand up to Trump and make decisions with other global leaders. A serious politician, not a populist.

Burnham isn't going to be any more popular - the press will go after him just as they have with Starmer. And he's not even a bloody MP yet - get that in place and then make a bid for leadership, if you must. This is just messy and plays right into Farage and the right-wing press's hands.

And no, we do not need a general election now. The last thing we need is Farage in power while Trump is still alive and Putin is freaking out about a coup.

Phew! I thought I was the only one thinking this!

There is not a chance I want Wes Streeting as PM. I’ve emailed my MP to express how utterly tedious and embarrassing this is.

I agree.

Last thing we need is a change of Prime Minister every other week like we had with the last government.

He's FAR from perfect, but at least he's got the balls to say No to Trump. The thought of getting a UK version of MAGA is sickening.

I can't think of anyone in the Government that Id want to step up to replace him.

Certainly dont want another general election.

Its just ridiculous atp

Theres so much going on in the world, we need stability against Trump

Say what you want about the tories, they bloody know how to stay in power - a united party is whats needed

Hardly!! How many prime ministers did we have under the Tories? They started this ridiculous trend

LittleBearPad · Yesterday 19:23

Hogwartsian · Yesterday 19:16

Why is he useless? What has he done wrong?

He’s done nothing.

He has u turned on pretty much every policy he’s suggested.

He has a massive parliamentary majority and he’s incapable of passing legislation.

He has no vision. No plan. No ability to communicate. No principles and no apparent values.

He's a cypher of nothingness

He's utterly useless.

Didimum · Yesterday 19:24

Couldn’t agree more. No prime minister and no party can deliver at this point. It’s utterly ridiculous.

There would've been plenty more had they not had that 'cling to power' spirit

Myoldbear · Yesterday 19:25

I agree!
At present there is no one better to lead than Starmer.
I don't mind him at all.

Wes Streeting, former friend of Peter Mandelson. Were he to become leader and Prime Minister, that would not go unnoticed.

I am with the OP, Labour came first in the 2024 general election, get on with governing.

paddleboardingmum · Yesterday 19:25

The country and especially the media seems addicted to constant drama.

Lemonfrost · Yesterday 19:26

ProudAmberTurtle · Yesterday 19:08

Very pleased that Starmer is toast but the alternatives look even worse.

The country needs an end to the chaos.

We need a general election now.

Because that wouldn't be at all chaotic or destabilising, would it?

PropertyD · Yesterday 19:26

Hogwartsian · Yesterday 19:16

you cannot seriously ask that question!

I totally agree OP. I’m not Starmers biggest fan and a lapsed Labour voter, but I’m getting so angry with this whole internal palava, all being played at taxpayers expense when every elected MP needs to focus on what they are there for - their constituents.

The Labour Party voted in its leader. The GE was won with said leader with huge number of seats. People like Streeting and Rayner were presumably supportive of these things too. They were there! Rayner deputy for gods sake.

Sick of the lot of them and sick of hearing of the sainted Burnham. Well those of us who remember him from last time will know that he blew with the wind somewhat and more than once his own party didn’t want him as leader. And meanwhile in Scotland the sNP think

that they are due another referendum - seriously, fix the issues in Scotland that people nEED before using your time and energy in your ideology and dream.

Just do your fucking day jobs!!!

👏🏼 100 this

JaneFondue · Yesterday 19:28

Farage and Trump dragging the whole world to war between them. That's what we will have if a general election is called.
Barely two years!

Myoldbear · Yesterday 19:28

Can anyone really provide an example of an MP who would be better?

Lemonfrost · Yesterday 19:29

greypinkspoon · Yesterday 19:17

Phew! I thought I was the only one thinking this!

Far from it! It's madness, totally counterproductive and will do nothing to stabilise the country. It's unbelievable that no lessons have been learnt from the last few years of Conservative governance.

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 19:30

It’s a problem across Europe. Ridiculous governments making ridiculous decisions and trying to slash each other down, years discussing Brexit, Covid, The Ukraine war, mean while prices are rising, housing shortages, mass immigration, increase in crime, soft prison sentences, huge tax increases and social welfare bills but hey let’s distract the public with their ridiculous bitching instead of pulling out the finger.

TheFairyCaravan · Yesterday 19:30

Myoldbear · Yesterday 19:28

I doubt it. They just want to sling mud from the sidelines

Joyful26 · Yesterday 19:31

I completely agree OP! It’s just such an unnecessary distraction. And just to create news coverage or who knows what.

why can’t everyone see how disruptive it would be for us, the British people!

just sharing for interest. I do YouGov surveys as you can earn a tiny bit of money from them.

every single day they’re asking if I think kier starmer should go. It drives me mad. Presumably they want to show a poll where the country want him to go.

it’s crazy, how about we support him to do his job and focus on everything else which is happening right now!

That's not true, he is doing an exceptional job with Trump, the Iran circus and Ukraine.

ProudAmberTurtle · Yesterday 19:35

DisappearingGirl · Yesterday 19:13

We really don't. Some sort of hung parliament with a Reform - Greens coalition at the helm. That's sure to be a functional government

While there is literally zero chance of that happening, it would at least be hilarious

MustardBear · Yesterday 19:35

I didn’t vote Labour at the last GE, but I categorically don’t want him to go, and we do not need a GE now. We’re in enough shit as it is.

I think he’s done a good job during the ME crisis and we need further stability over the coming months, not a load of politicians distracted by a leadership contest, or worse a GE.

I wish we could go a full-term with just one single PM. This isn’t a premiership football team FFS.

ProudAmberTurtle · Yesterday 19:36

TheSmallAssassin · Yesterday 19:16

A general election is the last thing we need now.

The last thing we need is what we're currently getting.

A party in power that has descended into total and utter back-stabbing incompetence and chaos.

Yuja · Yesterday 19:36

Completely agree. I’ll say it - as far as politicians go I quite like him. He has integrity, he keeps his personal life out of politics, and he is calm. He’s done a great job with trump, Iran etc and really stood his ground. His u turns on home policies are not ideal, however, I do not have an idea of who could do it better in a country with deep rooted problems like ours. Those of you that think he should go, who should replace him in your view?

Therefore I would like to keep him and let him do his job rather than the circus that is a leadership contest or even worse, a general election where reform actually have a chance.
