I’ve just read Angela’s Raynor’s statement about why Labour did so badly and what they need to do to change….aibu to think SHE STILL DOESNT GET IT!! Nothing mentioned about welfare, nothing mentioned about immigration-these are 2 subjects most talked about as the reasons why people didn’t vote for Labour.
she might not like it-but id they want to stay in power, they MUST tackle these subjects and not just ignore them because they dint fit her narrative.

He wasn't 'supposed to remain impartial' - especially as a freelancer. That was a big part of the whole story, and the main reason he was reinstated. And it wasn't misconduct. Not even close.

Also the BBC is neither right or left wing, despite some spikiness in the distribution of how that presents. I know people there who can confirm, they try very hard as an organisation to be as impartial as possible, and there are many people who spend most of their role worrying about whether they're managing it. And they get huge amounts of stick from both sides.

Also the BBC is neither right or left wing. And they get huge amounts of stick from both sides.

Absolutely agree with this! The BBC don’t always get it right - far from it. But the fact that people of all political stripes constantly argue about the BBC being too far on the opposing side just shows that they’re pretty good at being impartial.

The irony is that net migration is down 69% under this government.

Sadly, I think it could get to zero, and Farage would still be spouting "stop the boats".

Its down because the Tories changed the rules on bringing over dependants for people studying. People who didnt work, didnt contribute.

And that my dear is why Reform will get in.

calling someone racist when they have given no indication of racism whatsoever is incredibly insulting (and in my case untrue).

and the fact I have never voted reform is irrelevant, because voting fir reform does not necessarily make someone racist.

Reform will get in because Labour will stay principled and not pander to racists? Potentially. So be it then. I’d rather that than a party abandoning their principles and flip flopping to say what some people want to hear.

It would be economically and socially devastating for the country if Reform ever took power (still very unlikely at this point) but I support democracy. It would just make me sad to see the UK sink so low. Maybe we are a country of racists now and I have to learn to live with that.

I was just going to say the same! I think is partly a sneaky way to undermine her but also a way of saying they don’t care about her.

be all the questions were so goading, of course illegal immigration has affected me adversely-directly and indirectly.

Indirectly by the costs associated (processing, caring for them etc which could be spent on nhs) and directly by being pickpocketed by an illegal.

This made me giggle. Did you demand to see the pickpockets legal papers to determine he was an illegal immigrant?

The point of pickpockets tends to be that they secretly pick your pocket not engage in discussion with you. Things that never happened.

It’s still not resolved, HMRC is still awaiting a £40,000 repayment.

And that’s aside from fraudulently having overvalued the family home so she could draw down sufficient for the deposit in the £600,000 beachfront flat down south! From her son’s Trust Fund. How???
Those that have the means will find ways to circumvent the system. They’re all mired in corruption.

Absolutely. Up the workers. Pigs in the trough. She was bloody Housing Minister and claimed that she was advised incorrectly by some middle of nowhere solicitors. I suspect she knew she was on dodgy ground and thought she would wing it.

For me it wasnt the SD error it was the robbing of her disabled son's trust fund to pay for a property with her latest boyfriend who has been fired by the LP. You really couldnt make this up.

I left the Labour Party 30 odd years ago, having been quite active. Mostly because it was always "you must support us, then after the revolution we'll be able to deliver feminism, gay rights, etc". Just too much idealism of big change rather than the pragmatism of continuous small improvements.

It was striking after the US election when journalists were interviewing voters and politicians just how many people were saying “I voted for Trump because if the economy” “I voted for Trump because food is too expensive” “I voted for Trump because we need more jobs” “I voted for Trump because he will reopen factories”. They didn’t love Trump, they were just skint and wanted more money in their pockets. Whereas on the Dem side it was more “We campaigned for LGBTQI+ rights and it’s a disaster that we weren’t listened to ” “They didn’t listen to our message on diversity” “Trump will not do anything to support trans kids” “I don’t understand why women/black people can vote for that man” but they didn’t offer anything useful like jobs and affordable food. When one person offers you bread and the other offers you what they think is roses then you take the bread. Even if it’s just a small chance that the bread will be delivered. Even if you want the roses, and lots of people don’t want those particular roses.
Reform link their “policies” to directly helping the British people. Particularly the working people. I personally think it’s mainly bollocks and we’d mostly be screwed if they did get in but still, the message is “a vote for us is a vote for yourself”. Labour policy is all about supporting someone else “a vote for us is for benefits claimants” “a vote for us means other people never have to make their own kids breakfast again” or “a vote for is is a vote for grooming gangs” “a vote for us means if you don’t work you are better off than any over privileged fat-cat upstart who is arrogant enough to try to run a small business”.

Taking extremely tiny soundbites from Hitler and trying to compare the evils of the Holocaust with Reform is pretty low.

The growing anti semitism in this country is coming from the left - why don’t you do their soundbites first?

We have the sound bites from hitler now what about these:

Allah’s Messenger said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. ‘O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.’”
(Sahih Bukhari 4:52:177; see also Sahih Bukhari 4:52:176; Sahih Muslim 41:6985)

Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it.
(Sahih Muslim 39:16, see also Sunan Abu Dawud 41:5186)[5]

On his death-bed Allah’s Messenger ( put a sheet over his-face and when he felt hot, he would remove it from his face. When in that state (of putting and removing the sheet) he said, “May Allah’s Curse be on the Jews and the Christians for they build places of worship at the graves of their prophets.” (By that) he intended to warn (the Muslim) from what they (i.e. Jews and Christians) had done. (Sahih Bukhari 4:56:660)[6]

No Muslim would die but Allah would admit in his stead a Jew or a Christian in Hell-Fire.
(Sahih Muslim 37:6666)[7]
There would come people amongst the Muslims on the Day of Resurrection with as heavy sins as a mountain, and Allah would forgive them and He would place in their stead the Jews and the Christians.
(Sahir Muslim 37:6668)[8

A group of Bani Isra’il (Jews) was lost. I do not know what happened to it, but I think (that it ‘underwent a process of metamorphosis) and assumed the shape of rats. Don’t you see when the milk of the camel is placed before them, these do not drink and when the milk of goat is placed before them, these do drink.” (Sahih Muslim 42:7135)[11]

Good. I hope the Labour Party never listen to racists like you. They’re not Reform. They don’t just say what the racists want to hear. They were voted in on a set of principles and they’re acting on them. Good on them and good on Starmer.

Why are you throwing around accusations of ‘racist’ at random people? Are you aware how silly that sounds?

I’m not sure why you think it is ‘good’ that Labour aren’t listening to the electorate as we currently live in a democracy so they are just ensuring they will be emphatically be voted out as soon as possible.

They were voted in on a set of principles and they’re acting on them.

Except that they’ve done little that they were voted in for and lots that we don’t want.

So just slightly more than half the vote went to 3 parties combined. Which means that slightly under half the vote went to one party (Reform)? I think you answered your own argument.

Reform probably would reduce illegal immigration as they have no respect for UK and international law so would employ methods that other parties would consider illegal and inhumane. They would have no qualms about sinking small boats and dinghies and letting people drown and shooting migrants so it probably would act as a strong deterrant. I'm sure that there are loads of Reform voters that would sign up for doing that.

They'd be utterly shit at everything else related to running a country though.

That’s actually really interesting and never thought about like that. Thank you.

one of the reasons I don’t vote labour or anyone on the left is that I never feel that they see me. It always feels like what they can get from me. Nothing is ever about how my life can be made better, simply how I can be milked to look after everyone else.

Do you know how things work when you have a disabled child? they split up, but her child couldn't leave the family home as was adapted for him- my husband and I would be in exactly the same boat and would have to do the same if we were to split. She didn't "pick pocket" anything of her sons, and I believe the property is entirely in trust for him- rightly so.

Whereas Honest Bob Jenrick (who might actually be the Reform's candidate for PM as Farage won't want to give up the side-hustles and millions of pounds of "gifts") charged the taxpayers hundreds of throusands for his house in Newark, where he's rarely seen, while owning two other million-pound houses.

most of the methods they have stated currently are either not possible or are against the law

Then they will ignore the law - I think that’s what people are hoping. It’s the approach Trump has taken in America.

Fortunately, we have a lot of processes to prevent a government ignoring the law. Trump isn't doing so well ignoring the law as many of his decisions that have have been reversed. He then looks like an idiot for not being able to follow through.

Until the labour party understands that socialism will never work, they have no chance.

Unfortunately they all believe in socialism so they will never give that up.

She just can't see that her workers reforms are a big part of the problem.

All they are concentrating on is the losses in Wales and they have not addressed the losses to Reform at all because they can't as they have no answer.

The also think that all the people who voted reform are idiots.

Edited

Socialism gave us the NHS, workers rights, including maternity rights, and so much more. It was socialist suffragettes who got us the vote. Without socialism you wouldn't be able to voice an opinion on who is in power in the UK. Labour under Starmer have lost their way and we need to get back to what Labour was formed to do - standing up for the more vulnerable and powerless in society.

He's a communist in name only. Really he's just an authoritarian dictator. As Chat GPT has informed me - while formally sitting on the extreme economic left through state control of the economy, the regime is better defined as a totalitarian, nationalist dictatorship.

And

Muhammad commanded his followers to “kill any Jew that falls into your power.”
“The apostle said, ‘Kill any Jew that falls into your power.’ Thereupon Muhayyisa b. Mas’ud leapt upon Ibn Sunayna, a Jewish merchant with whom they had social and business relations, and killed him. Huwayyisa was not a Muslim at the time though he was the elder brother. When Muhayyisa killed him Huwayyisa began to beat him, saying, ‘You enemy of God, did you kill him when much of the fat on your belly comes from his wealth?’ Muhayyisa answered, ‘Had the one who ordered me to kill him ordered me to kill you I would have cut your head off.’ He said that this was the beginning of Huwayyisa’s acceptance of Islam. The other replied, ‘By God, if Muhammad had ordered you to kill me would you have killed me?’ He said, ‘Yes, by God, had he ordered me to cut off your head I would have done so.’ He exclaimed, ‘By God, a religion which can bring you to this is marvellous!’ and he became a Muslim.”[23]
