AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

We have small children. I have brought him loads of PJ's and comfy shorts. He says he is too hot.

Synthetic fabrics make you feel hot. Natural fabrics breathe better. How about linen shorts? Or a thin cotton short?

Pistachiocake · 09/05/2026 20:22

Pre kids, I always did the same-you should be able to do whatever you like in your own house as long as no one who would be bothered can see (as in if you've invited your parents round, then he should stay dressed).

Your exact words were “If there are other people in the house, it's grim, and unnacceptable”. I’m asking in general why you think people shouldn’t be naked in their own home if everyone in that household is agreeable?

Do you think the OP is agreeable? And therein lies the problem 🙄

Canaryringer · 09/05/2026 20:28

. My partner is a naturist. He often wears nothing at all, maybe a dressing gown if it's cold. He keeps one handy for answering the door if he's not wearing it. But we have no children at home and I've got used to it. He feels comfortable earning nothing or very little.

Does he put a towel down where he sits? I am not sure I would want his bare arse sitting on the furniture.

I don't know anyone that does that. My first thought is that your house must be too hot, turn the heating down so he starts to feel chilly, then he might put his clothes back on. I also think it's quite unhygienic to have bare skin on sofas and arm chairs, they'll get dirty and smelly, I mean you can't wash those like you can wash clothes. Throw ice cubes at him at every opportunity...😆

If you are wearing a vest top there will be bloody skin touching sofas

And the OP might have leather sofas like me which are easy to clean

He wears those very small skin right boxers

This would absolutely irritate me

Discodance1988 · 09/05/2026 20:52

Why are so many women bothered about their partners bodies? Assuming you all find your partner's attractive why is this bothering so many of you? I LOVE when my partner is topless, he wouldn't walk around the house in just his boxers as we have children but topless is perfectly fine.

Pigeonatthewheel · 09/05/2026 20:58

I would find this irritating, especially with all that bare skin rubbing against fabric that never gets washed. I’d go as far as to say that wearing pyjamas or loose fitting leisure wear as soon as you get in every day would also be off-putting, some nights it’s nice to dress well, even if you’re not leaving the house. There is an element of being able to do what you want in your own home, maybe Y-Front Wednesdays could be the compromise.

Also potentially teaching your kids it’s normal to walk around undresses in the day - which to me is opposite of teaching them about their own private bodies

My parents walked around in underwear and I hated it. My mum would walk around in her night dress with nothing under even in front of my partner, I told her to put some bra or dressing gown on. I’m completely opposite because of how my parents were in front of me and my brother.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 09/05/2026 21:23

Depends how good he looks in just his boxers I suppose?

My husband has a fantastic body and I would
love it if he walked round the house in just his boxers all the time 🤣

It’s not something I would do although I’m sure my husband would love if if I spent all evening pottering about in just my underwear 🤣

You’d love it even if it made your kids uncomfortable?

suburberphobe · 09/05/2026 21:33

Well, of course I change from work clothes into home clothes after picking up my son as a solo mum when I have to cook dinner for us both.

It"s life.

Same as getting up in the morning, school and work.

Better that than a violent man in the house.

Sorry if you're going through that OP.

Please reach out to your GP.

You being a naturist @Myli1 basically defines your mumsnet personality. It’s all you seem to post about!

My ex-husband used to do this, and to be honest it made me very uncomfortable. For a start, it meant I’d always have to open the door and he’d have to scurry upstairs, if the kids suddenly wanted to pop over the park I’d have to go etc-plus, I just didn’t like it. I would never in a million years walk round in my underwear!

This in spades, I would never do this!

And my husband would be an ex-husband too if he started this very odd practice of sitting in his underpants ONLY in OUR home.

2O26 · 09/05/2026 21:58

Canaryringer · 09/05/2026 21:04

Not normally.

"Nudist camp rules include always carrying a towel to sit on". At the bare minimum (no pun intended) your husband should sit on a towel -no bare arses sitting on the furniture.

One is underwear, one is outerwear?

But I've got a pair of shorts that, basically you can't tell the difference...I never ever wear them and I am dreading going to France next month where I can only wear trunks in the pool

OMG that's such weird behaviour, I'm sorry you had to go through that. Flowers

So what? What is it about them you don’t like? I mean break this right down. What is the actual problem with it? Are you having dinner parties every evening? What is the actual issue with him being comfortable in a way that he wants to do it? And what would your reaction be if this was the other way round?

Nearly50omg · 09/05/2026 22:13

Why doesn’t he wear shorts then? He can answer the door and do all the other things with a pair of shorts on? unless he’s not got the body to be seen without a top on? 😂

He would if it was with other naturists. It's usually just on his own chair.

GRIM!!!! Your children don’t need to see that!!! NO ONE DOES! It’s performative and he thinks he’s clearly more attractive than he is! 🤢🤮🤮🤮
