What ‘education’ do you think will somehow persuade the rest of the population to deprioritise their existing concerns and instead take on yours?

I'm not expecting anyone to take on my concerns, I would just like them to get better at critical thinking when forming their own views. Would you not agree that there would be value in helping people to get better at evaluating the quality and bias of the information that they see and at distinguishing between facts and disinformation? I can't imagine why anyone of any political persuasion would object to the development of such skills. Unless of course they thought that might be damaging to their own agenda.

Threeyearoldkids · 08/05/2026 16:06

The issues affecting me, and the issues affecting someone who moved here 5 years ago legally and has a British passport are the same.

We both can’t get a doctors appointment. We both got our 3rd choice school, we both have to wait ages for an operation. We are both screwed if we need social housing.

Do you think if my son’s GF (Indian heritage) stumbled out of a nightclub alone and unfortunately came upon a couple of unscrupulous illegal males that they’d go “oh, she’s not white, leave her alone”. Or do you think her parents gasp in horror too when they read the news and worry about their women and girls safety?

No, we are all facing the same issues whether you are white, brown, British or working here for a while. It’s shite for everyone and I’m sick of those of us who are trying to protest against it being called racists.

No one is listening. No one really wants to vote Reform but some of us feel there’s no other option. It’s that or just give up.

Re-education camps! Very communist era!

Despised and ridiculed? No. Gullible, maybe.

It is the Reform politicians who are despicable and ridiculous, not the voters who have had the wool pulled over their eyes by a bunch of liars who promise what they think people want, but who in reality couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Well they don't really do anything much different to us, bar accept whilst there is a negative side immigration is part of their national identity and can bring a lot of positives, as well as being a moral responsibility in some ways.

The figures speak for themselves, we are way down the list the numbers of immigrants accepted , even when the figures are adjusted for population and country size.

We just have an increasing entitled, exceptionalist population who have a problem with it.

Other countries do manage it far better than us. Immigration can be a great thing, illegal immigration isn’t.

But the point is its not actually supposed to be a mosque, however it is being used as one and the council do absolutely nothing! Probably worried about being accused of racism!

I don’t have enough information to say whether it is or should be a mosque (and I suspect neither do you). However if it’s being used for an unapproved activity, you can complain about that to relevant authorities and they will respond. Have you done that, or are you just assuming they won’t intervene?

Of course but by any matrix we are overpopulated (unless for example you WANT and air quality, no food sustainability, dwindling eco diversity, more crowded infrastructure and smaller housing plots). But I bet you’re willing to argue against this accepted logic because it doesn’t fit your narrative? Yet you criticise other people for ignoring fairly basic facts?

What is it that Reform offer that you think improves any of that?

I’m particularly intrigued to know what you think a massive increase in support for Reform does for the safety of your DS’s GF. I can’t for the life of me think she’s better off.

I’m not a Reform voter but ultimately some people feel that immigration and a deviation from what was British life 30 years ago, is a more pressing issue than other issues because once it’s gone it’s gone, whereas with public services you can always overhaul or change them in future.

For those suggesting that Reform are not racist and that their supporters are not racist, I present to you the newest member of Essex County Council: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/reform-uk-election-results-essex-37129362.amp

Bear in mind that Reform were made aware of this before the election, and he remained their chosen candidate.

This is so grim, really saddening

I'm not sure what your arguments about overpopulation (which I haven't expressed a view on) have to do with the question that we were discussing around education.

If you think people like me are guilty of ignoring basic facts (which I would dispute, but we can set that aside for now as it would take us off on a tangent that isn't relevant to the debate), then surely you would be in favour of my suggestion that we should teach people to be better at critically evaluating the evidence on which they are basing their opinions.

Might I be forgiven for thinking that you are just trying to change the subject?

I agreed with that. Did you read my comment?

I then asked if you agree with the notion that our island is overpopulated by any reliable metric. You dodged the question, while saying other people need to learn to accept facts.

The density of the UK population per square km is about the same as Germany’s. If you want a real example of over population look at Malta where the density is about eight times that of the UK.

The same ex-Tory lot who fucked it up last time? Braverman, Jenrick et al? OK then.

As for the Reform councillors, I doubt very much they'll have any success whatsoever in 'sorting the country out'. Most of them are ex-Tories anyway. They'll just waste money on flags.

Do these people not realise that things change? Life isn't exactly the same as it was in Roman times, or Victorian times, or indeed 30 years ago. We've invaded multiple countries and been invaded ourselves multiple times in the last few hundred years - it's part of being human. Things move on. Reform want us stuck in some version of the past that never really existed.
