Now I don't mean something that was expensive but you really enjoyed, but where you felt ripped off.

I'll start.

26 euros for two Sprite's in Paris.

And this was circa 2014.

The work canteen (which used to be dirt cheap) sell 'make your own toast' for 60p a slice, £1.25 if you want a topping ie. Jam, peanut butter.

The bread is nothing special.

Bet you that sounded funny in your head...

It was a light hearted comment, what's with the rudeness?

Figcherry · 07/05/2026 14:46

£112 to see Take That in 2011.
My dn didn’t want to go so I said I’d buy her ticket as Robbie Williams was appearing with them.
The best part of the night was The Pet Shop Boys who were the warm up act.

Paying £4000 for a recliner from Oak Tree Mobility!
They must have seen me coming!
Has anyone felt ripped off by them

Lorrymum · 07/05/2026 14:47

We sold our 2year old, mobile home/ static caravan. We had to hand over 20% of the sale price to the site owners.
The money would have furnished our new home and we wouldn't have had to spend months sleeping on an airbed and sitting on borrowed bean bag chairs.. We were very young and very green and had no idea when we bought it.

Porcupinepotato · 07/05/2026 14:48

Haha yes I should have added an emoji

Conniebygaslight · 07/05/2026 14:48

Last week, paid £45 for a bottle of wine in a restaurant that was £12 in Sainsburys.

Every time I've ever had to pay to use the toilet in a train station concourse. I'm already paying a fortune for the train, and now I have to pay 50p for a wee!!

Takes the p$%s - sorry couldnt resist

What I feel most ripped off by and it didn't cost me money to do at the time was being stupid enough to vote for Labour at the last election because I was fed up with The Tory's, I say it didn't cost me money at the time but it certainly has since, like everyone else who works for a living or doesn't boost their socio economic spending level through benefit scams, I guess?

I think a LOT of people feel cheated/hard done by after voting for those clucking clowns! Hmm

DinosaurBlue · 07/05/2026 14:52

$74 for two cocktails in Washington.

To be fair it was a bar that had a view of the White House but the bar wasn’t special
and neither were the cocktails!

Myblueclematis · 07/05/2026 14:53

£9 for a fluorescent pink bandage for one of my cats, this was probably about 15 years ago after she hurt her paw. She pulled it off about five minutes after getting home, the little cow.

At the time it seemed an awful lot for a bit of material but looking at prices now, I dread to think what it would have cost as I didn't pay a consultation fee back then.

5 mins for vet consultation as cat had upset stomach. 1 anti sickness injection.
£115.

That's v expensive, my vet is a saint only ever seems to want €30 for that type of thing . This makes me appreciate him even more

KitsyWitsy · 07/05/2026 14:55

Had 4 kittens booked in for neutering. They said they had to have a precheck. Took all 4 in for the check and they charged me just under £50 per kitten.. just to look them over, whole appointment was less than 5 minutes. They didn;t check tummies or teeth or anything. I was distraught but had my disabled son with me and didnt want to upset him to cause a fuss. I'm still upset about it VETS4PETS - Hull. bastards!

Isn't all Iceland eye-wateringly expensive?

We did find a hotdog stand which could be described as 'reasonable value' at £6 for an extremely large and good quality 🌭 😆

But yes, on the whole it's quite shockingly expensive!

BossFrog · 07/05/2026 14:57

£18 for a pint of lime and soda in a hotel in Whitby in 2021. They charged me £2 for the lime cordial and 2x £8 for 2x half pints of soda. I did not drink it and nearly poured it over his head!

YourWildAmberSloth · 07/05/2026 15:00

£26 for a Singapore Sling cocktail at Raffles in Singapore - in 2005, God knows what it costs now.

My car exhaust was rattling on Christmas Eve and we had a long journey planned that night. Drove into the local garage and asked them to have a look for me. They replaced a missing bracket and charged me £100 for ten minutes work. I felt sick. Relieved, but sick.

My DH bust 2 tyres on a whopping pothole on the way to work at 10pm on Easter Sunday 3 years ago, (when he was on the way to his night shift,) and we had to get someone to go rescue him/change the tyres. He was 9 miles from work - 6 miles from home. The only 24 hour callout who would answer the phone came to him and charged £475 for the double time out of hours job. We were like 😱 It's a 2015 Astra, not a big fancy car!

But.... I put in a complaint/claim with the council as they knew about it as there was a white line painted around it. Took 7 weeks but we got the full £475 back.

BridgetJonesV2 · 07/05/2026 15:03

My dog was unwell, had a tiny amount of blood in his urine so Vet put him into antibiotics (dog is 12). Emergency appointment cost £175 as they did a urine sample too.
Only said antibiotics ripped through his gut, giving him sickness and diarrhoea so bad he had to go onto a drip. We've had 2 blood tests, 1 stool analysis, more antiobiotics, steroids, tummy paste and painkillers plus the inpatient treatment and 5 consultations. Bill currently stands at £1200.... and he's not insured as it was stupid money per month due to an existing heart condition/arthritis.

Yeah I thought it was funny anyway! 😘

Kerri126 · 07/05/2026 15:04

£285 on geriatric blood tests for the 10 yr old cat who’d been drinking much more than normal - nothing showed up, if anything vet felt he was in good nick for his age. Then I had a day off a few days later and noticed the arsehole spent all day lying at the bottom of the radiator. He was just thirsty after getting too hot - moron.

Chunkychips23 · 07/05/2026 15:06

My £103 monthly water bill for two adults and two very small children.

TheGander · 07/05/2026 15:08

Well I’ve looked at these posts, crunched the numbers and here are my recommendations:
Don’t keep a pet
Don’t t go out for drinks- a tin of beer in a brown paper bag in the park is an acceptable substitute
Don’t bother with gigs - just use Spotify
Avoid anyone who tries to upsell - make up counters, hairdressers especially dangerous
